Crime To Love - Episode 18

 

Jennifer didn’t want Chike’s trouble. She didn’t talk but only watched him speechless expecting the worst from his elder brother for she was tired of his police manning. “So it has gone to the extent of you not talking to me when I ask you a question” Chike asked angrily. “See Chike I am already a grown woman, I know what is good for me. I have the right to love whomever I want to love, by the way will you marry me?” She spoke confidently.
“Actually I will never marry you, but what we are talking about is whom you are dating . That womanizer, that criminal, that nonentity who calls himself Cyril”
Jennifer laughed loudly and said” so Cyril of all people, a person whom you always tell us about to be your best friend among all your friends has overnight become a womanizer, a criminal and even a nonentity. You are not serious. What you must know is that you cannot stop me from loving anyone I want to love or even marry; Cyril is my dating husband if you must know” she said this and left. Chike called her back but all was in vain. It seemed to Chike that the whole world had come to an end.  His reason was just that Cyril he knew always destroyed women and that was why they fondly call him “PROF”, He would make plenty promises but later abandoned them. He regretted that his sister was going to be one of his victims being ignorant of the fact that Cyril was madly in love and meant to marry Jennifer

. He left immediately to find a solution his problem. From then Cyril became his number one enemy with him being unaware of the enemity.

The threat Chike has continued to give to Jennifer was very difficult to come out from her mouth. Many times she had concluded to tell Cyril before going to meet him but on reaching Cyril’s presence she would first forget about telling him.  She had only told her friend Chizoba who advised her never to let Cyril know because if he did there would be endless violence. Jennifer was then kept in a dilemma; she blamed herself for even falling in love with at all for Cyril. It was becoming impossible for her to leave Cyril. She knew that she was already in a very dicey situation in which she had no other option other than to face anything she saw. She made it plain to Chizoba that she knew that Chike’s next line of action was to kill Cyril but that will never  be possible since she is alive. Chizoba had nothing to say and only advised her to be careful in anything she was doing, because two wrongs can never make a right.

Jennifer saw that there was nothing she could do to prevent Chike from doing anything he was planning. She then made up her mind, without informing Cyril, and then called for a family meeting. She informed all the family members officially that Cyril had asked her hand in marriage; she showed them the ring he gave to her. Her father was very happy that Cyril was finally coming into his family but the mother who knew Chike’s character had already sensed danger and said a lot of things to convince Jennifer not to marry Cyril, Jennifer’s father rebuked her, Jennifer was then comfortable and happy and hoped that everything was solved as far as her father had given his blessing to the union.

. Chike made no speech during the family meeting; when his father called him to say something he just murmured and left them for his room.  Mrs. Udoka had seen that there would be a very big trouble. She just pretended that she knew nothing. The meeting ended and Jennifer before sleeping called Chizoba on phone and gave her the whole story on what happened during the family meeting.
Chike was already confused on what to do because he had seen that there was nothing he should do. Killing Cyril has always been on his mind but he had always condemned it because he would always take Cyril as his blood brother, notwithstanding that since he got the information that Cyril has been dating his sister he had remained elusive to Cyril. He went to their normal joint where he drank to stupor before Onyeka could reach. It was there that Chike told Onyeka the present happening; Onyeka never liked the news because he swore on his life that Jennifer or even Chizoba would ever fall in love with any man since they insulted him their school. He went ahead to advise Chike to eliminate Cyril for that would be the only option. Chike never liked the idea but Onyeka gave him reason why Cyril’s life should be terminated; Chike then asked Onyeka to get him some unknown faces that will do the deal. Onyeka was delighted when he felt his mission was to be accomplished. Chike then left Onyeka behind and entered his Mercedes 190 and drove to his house.
