Adele - Episode 8

 

The park is very serene and breathtaking, with the grass looking green and lush, It is well groomed and that is why Richard choosed the place for the picnic he planned for his daughter and gbemi. Gbemi has been complaining that he has been neglecting her, so he decided to arrange for the little picnic that will even allow her to meet ella. Before leaving the house to pick gbemi, Richard had tried to explain to Ella who gbemi is to him without overwhelming the kid with too much details.

 'she is a good friend of mine, and she wants to meet you'  he explained,

 'okay dad, but why can't aunty adele come also' she asked her father,

'well because she must be busy with her own plans honey'.

Ever since Ella has met adele, she has not stopped talking about her, richard could just not understand it . His mother now even know that there is someone called Adèle.
     
       They picked Gbemi up from her house and head to the park, ella greeted her politely and stared back at her book she really wants adele to join them for the picnic but since her father did not invite her there is nothing she can do about it.  

'hello sugar, what a beautiful girl you are, let me see the book you are reading' gbemi said, ella gave her the book to see, gbemi feigned interest in the book and later return it to her,

'it must be very interesting'  Ella continued reading her storybook without sparing her a glance.
       When they got to the park, they find a cool spot to spread the blanket and after bringing out what they brought with them to make the picnic perfect, they all sat down to eat and to enjoy the view

. In no time gbemi forgot that the kid came with them, she was busy  trying to pull Richards attention to herself .

 'Am glad you arranged for this picnic, i was feeling so bored and lonely', she purred like a cat lazing in the sun.  Ella was  irritated by gbemi's behaviour, and her five year old sharp sense tells her, the lady likes her father she did not welcome the idea for she likes adele better, and won't mind if she is to be her new mum, So she decided to fustrate gbemi's plans.

'Dad when are we going to grandma place?'

'why honey, are you not enjoing yourself, i thought you are exicited to be here'  richard asked her,

'i am daddy  it just that am bored and i missed grandma, and i missed aunty adele too, i wish she is here with us'.  Richard was surprised by his daughter's  request, before he could respond to what she said, gbemi asked

'who is aunty adele?'

'she is my friend, she plays with me and she is very nice and beautiful' ella replied her with pride. Gbemi was getting annoyed with ella, for she knows the girl will stand in her way of marrying richard.

'oh really, and where did you meet her?' she  
Asked her with faked enthuasiasm, '

she works for my dad'. Gbemi turned towards richard and glared at him 'sweetie you never mentioned her to me before'  Richard was amused by her reaction

 ''I don't see why i should'',  that shut her up. Richard saw that determined look on ella's set jaw, she inherit that trait from her mother once her mind is madeup, to change her mind will be difficult. 'sweetie  it alrite we are going soon'. They started packing their belongings into the car in preparation to leave, gbemi was now extremely annoyed and she knows the girl is trying to thwart all her plans but she forced herself to remain calm and behave like what just happened is not a big deal.

        After they have dropped Gbemi at her house, they drove to, mrs coker's house.

'Sweetie do you like adele that much?'

 'yes dad, she is a nice person and she likes me too i won't mind if you marry her',  Richard was dumb founded by the child revelation, for he did not know that the child likes adele that much, but what was baffling him was that they only met just once. 'sweetie life is not as easy as that, i realize you like her, but marrying her is another thing she may even be engaged, and besides she is my worker, please try and understand' he gently explained to her praying she understands and leave the matter be. 
    
       Ella really wish her father would allow her to be with adele, she took out her book and bury her head in it not really reading it but trying to ignore her father, 'ella, are you not going to talk to me?' richard asked her after a long silence, 'am reading dad, and you are driving' she pointed out to him. 'but that has not seem to disturb us before' he replied her, he knew she is trying to make him feel guilty. After another long stretch of silence, he brought out is phone and dialled adele's number, he waited for it to be answered, 'hello, good afternoon i hope am not disturbing you?'  'no sir' adele who was surprised to receive call from her boss on saturday replied, 'ella, will like to see you, is it alrite if we came to your house?' adele was short of words for she never saw that one coming, 'no problem sir, i will be expecting you'.

      Adele quickly rushed into her room to find a dress that will be suitable, she decided to go for blue jeans and a polo top, she brushed her hair and freshen her make up, she left her room . She went back into the sitting room to wait for her boss to arrive, her aunty was amused with the way she ran into her room to dress up, 'are you going out?'  'No aunty, it my boss and his daughter thats coming over', 'why will your boss visit you? Is there something am missing here?' bibiola asked, 'actually it is his daughter that wants to visit me'  'i see' but bibiola was not really seeing it at all, she suspect that her neice is all dressed up not for the kid alone but may be for the father as well.  

    Ella was almost jumping with exictment as they parked in front of adele's house. They knock and adele came out to open the gate for them, she usher them in, and introduced them to her aunty. 'it a pleasure to meet you madam' richard greeted bibiola, 'you are very welcome, please be comfortably seated' after the pleasantries she excuse herself and left them. Adele introduce her aunty children to ella and they warm up to her very well. 'so how are you ella?' adele ask, 'am fine ma, i missed you and i told dad and he decided to bring me here' she explained to adele. 'am so glad that you came, and i miss you too dearie' Richard was watching them, the way they were gisting and he could see that adele loves his daughter, she listens attentively to her.

. He was deeply touched for thats what he wants for his daughter, someone that will take care of her not because it a duty but because she loves her, and he did not see that quality in gbemi. 
     Richard knows that he is attracted to adele, but he has decided not to act on it, but it like fate is saying something different with the way his daughter is attached to adele. May be i should give it a shot, and see how it goes,but i will have to be subtle in my apprach, he thought.  Adele switched the television station to cartoon network and soon the children were engrossed in it, which gives room for richard and her to talk. 'she really missed you, she has being asking after you since the time you met, thats why i brought her'  'it alrite sir, i missed her too, she is a great kid and i enjoy her company' she replied shly.
     
        Richard checked his time and decide it time they left, after saying his farewell to  bibiola and her kids, Adele walked them out, 'thanks for coming'  She hugged ella, 'And thank you for having us' richard replied her. 'when will i see you again?' ella looked at her expectantly, 'don't worry sweetie, we will see soon' adele promised her.  'If you don't have any plans yet for next saturday, will you go to the cinema with us?' richard asked her before he can stop himself. Adele was surprised by richard request, but she was happy. 'I don't think i have any plans yet, i will love to come'.
    After saying their goodbyes, richard and his daughter left.

      
         'I had no idea that your boss is that goodlooking, and he is not old' bibiola commented after their guest has left, 'but i told you now' adele replied, 'well you never told me he is goodlooking' bibiola teased her, 'oh come on aunty,stop teasing me why will i be telling you that' she smiled. 'but you can't tell me that you have not noticed that all this while, see how dressed up you are when you heard he is coming'. Adele was now laughing 'aunty bi-bi' she drawled her name 'i refuse to fall for your game, he is my boss'   'and what has that got to do with attraction, i think he will be serious minded and you need to move on' bibiola observe. Adele just shake her head and smiled, deep inside she knows what her aunt said is true, she needs to move on, and she can't denied the attraction she felt for richard or the love and affection she has for his kid.
