As he stormed out of the place. He didn't bother to look back. He had just broken his own promise not to expose himself just like that. He had made the mistake and he knew everything was just ruined..

He got into his car and relaxing against the seat. He shut his eyes..

Why did he even come out like that? 

He behaved like a total jerk and to worsen the whole thing, he had expressed something he was still battling with. He had lost it! He just couldn't take and now he had no idea how things could possibly work out between them both with what he just said . He needed to go somewhere to be alone.

He started the car and turned on the headlamps and just the car started and it moved. He saw a figure in front of him and he quickly hit the brake. He almost killed someone. Then he realized it was Rosa.  He  cursed under his breath and then opened the car door.

“What is wrong with you Rosa? I could have killed you!” He shouted at her and quickly stepped out of the car and hurried towards her.

“Are you okay Rosa?” He asked, examining her to see if she was hit but she was only staring at him and smiling.

“What are you doing smiling like that? Don’t you know I could have killed you?”

“You wouldn’t even if you tried.” She replied and continued. “Besides, you left in such a hurry and I had to make things right..”

. You don’t need to. I will be alright”

“I have to else I won’t be fine” She continued. “You said you are in love with me?”

“It doesn’t matter” He replied, wondering what she had to say.

“Too bad” She said, walking closer to him. “ Because I was going to ask you why it took you so long to tell me that.”

He was getting confused. “What are you doing Rosa?”

“I am expressing myself to you too as well. I love you Francis, I have always loved you even before you left for Haiti. Ever since I started working for you…Even before I actually met you or before we even spoke. I thought you would never come back again so I covered it up and then you came back and we got closer and I just couldn’t contain it any longer. You wanted a fake relationship so I hooked up with Luke so I won’t get hurt anytime I remember everything is just for show. I…..”

Before she could finish he gathered her in his arms and kissed her passionately

NARRATOR

When his lips finally touched hers, everything in her just let go. Their lips moved in synchronization like they were pieces of a missing puzzle. His hand held her cheek warmly but firmly to make sure she wasn’t going anywhere.

All the sparks she wanted to feel were there..Actually..Electric shots running through her body. If she had been doing wrong things all her life. This felt perfectly right and she put her arms around him as she pressed closer to him…

They had to pull away for a breath of air and they stood. Panting and started laughing when they noticed they had company. 

“I told you Angela. Now pay up” Romeo said as he held a hand to Angela who counted some notes and handed to him excitedly.

“You two had a bet this would happen?” Francis asked as he pulled his arm around Rosa to bury his head in her hair.

“Yes we did” replied Angela excitedly.

“And we also had a bet that if you two hook up tonight, I and Angry get back together as well “replied Romeo as he pulled Angry towards him and kissed her while the other two clapped.

“You are crazy. You know that Rosa” Francis whispered in her ear as she leaned against him. “Do you know what you are getting into? With Debby and Luke?”

“I do. I will end things with Luke. I am being unfair to him”

He pulled her closer. He was just too happy right now. Being in love with someone that loved him back was a great feeling.

“I love you Rosa”

“I love you Francis”

 

DEBBY

She got to her mother’s house at around some minutes past eight in the night.  Now that she had all the proof she needed, all she needed to do right now was deal with Rosa in a way she would never expect.  Peri had kept an eye on Francis since he got back and Rosa wasn’t around, Debby knew he would want to find her if he truly loved her like she suspected. Peri had just called her some minutes ago to confirm that. She had found them kissing at the Diner Royal  . Rosa had lied to her.

She turned off the ignition key and stepped out of the car. Been long she came here, almost a year now. She found another car packed in the garage aside her mother’s Jeep..she has a visitor. 

Debby walked to the front door. She deliberated on whether to ring the door bell or not to, for a while, but then she just opened the door and walked in.

The house was clean and dustless and the delicious aroma of plantain and fried egg filled the atmosphere. She could hear the sound of cutlery as they beat around the plate coming from the dining.

Been a while she came here, she glanced around the house and raised an eyebrow when she realized none of her pictures was in the places they used to be. Her mother had packed them all away. There was a photo on the wall, her mother was putting an arm around a man in his late sixties whom she recognized straightaway. Honorable Miller, her mother’s long crush. They used to talk about the man before the quarrel between her and her mother. He travelled to India sometimes back and her mother would spend all day video-chatting with him. The man lost his family in a plane crash and was having a difficult time connecting. “Well guess they were connected now.” She said to herself.

“What do you want here?”

She turned around and found her mother. She looked really radiant in the jean and shirt she was wearing..

“Oh mother. Look at you. Some one would think you just turned 30”

Her mother made no reply but spoke again sternly. “You have no business here Debby, I suggest you leave before I call the police.”

She pretended to be surprised. “Oh come on Mother that is not a way to welcome back a prodigal daughter.” She moved closer to her. ‘I need your help ma, so much has happened to me and I know you warned me but now I want to do what is right and I know you will help me because you are my mother.”

“I am no mother to a slut and a gold-digger”

“Mother, don’t let us get to that stage yet  ...you will like what I am here for, it has always been your wish.” She took a seat. “I want you to help me get Francis back”

Mother stared at her as if she was mad. “You have not learned any lesson have you? I know you will end up like this, you should have seen my face when I saw Francis was your step son.” She chuckled before continuing. “ I thought it was a joke I celebrated each night. Now you want to get him back because you realized you would soon become a widow when you married an old man?”

“Rosa has gotten her claws around him and I want him now. You are going to help me “

Her mother burst into laughter. “Your maid? You are so done for Debby! I guess she is a lot smarter than you are. Look Debby. I assure you that you would not get a dime from that family. See me, I have a man now, I am happy and comfortable and we are growing old together. I do not worry about any child because, I have none. So go out of my house and never come back again . You have no place here. I disowned you a long time ago”

She thought about a reply she could give her mother that could hurt her just as she had hurt her with her statement about a perfect life. She really hated her mother and that she was right  just made her hate her more.

“You had a daughter?”

They both looked at the person who had interrupted their conversation. Honorable Miller was standing at the passage way, seemed he had been listening to their conversation.

Her mother looked shocked and quickly went to him. “Darling it’s not what you think..”

“But I heard what you just said now” the man retorted.

“Honorable Miller, yes, you heard right, she disowned me and now that I am back, she is chasing me away again.” Debby replied.

“Honey what is going on?” The man asked but her mother faked a smile.

“No need to worry honey, let’s just go inside. Our guest Is just leaving”

“Honorable Miller. I know how much you value family, I know you lost yours but this woman is not the best for you. She left my father when he had nothing and now she is disowning me because I came to look for her, she is a really wicked and selfish woman. I don’t think you should waste your time with her”

Her mother gasped at what she just said.

“You stupid lier,! Keep quiet right now!” She faced the Honorable who was surprised and confused. “She is lying honey please don’t listen to her..”

“You told me you had no daughter and that your husband and your daughter died in a car accident and I just heard everything you were saying some minutes ago and now you are saying I shouldn’t listen to her? You know what Jessica, we are done. Loose my number, you are not whom I thought you were.”

Her mother cried and pleaded but the man left anyways. Some minutes later, they could hear his car zoomed away.

Debby seemed satisfied and as she watched her mother crying on the floor.

“I swear to God Debby, you will pay for this. I will so ruin you, no man in the world will desire you. You took everything from me. My last chance at happiness. I will expose you tomorrow, the world will know who you are truly..” 

She sat cross-legged as she paid languid attention to her mother’s threats. “Stop it mother, we both lost okay..well..I haven’t lost yet though..I just think if I don’t get what I want, why you should get to gloat ..you know how much I hate that..”

Her mother stood up frantically and went to the table , picked her phone and scrolled through it and Debby heard her voice:

         “She must have left ‘brilliant and ready to learn out’”

“Would you just tell me what you did and quit wasting my time?”

“Mother, I did nothing that was bad, I actually took to her advice. She told me the season is for the taking. We take what we want, no matter what it cost us?”

 “What does that even mean?”

“Mother, she had a plan to sleep with Frannicky…..it was a one time opportunity mother, I just had my own plans and I won”

“You won what exactly? Lotto”

“No, I met Frannicky, I got to him before she could. Let’s just say I made sure he remembers me once he settles down.

“If I’m not stupid, you said you backstabbed your friend and stole a man from her right..”:

“Mum, he isn’t just a man, this is Frannicky and do you even know what he worths?”

“You, betrayed your only friend because of your own selfish interest, Debby?”

“She would have done the same thing.

“Was it just a fling?”

“No Mother. I cannot use my future to have a fling. I am going to have that man for sure.”

”Frannicky, that old man that everyone is talking about?”

“He is not as old as that Mother. No one has really seen his pictures.”

“SO, what will happen to Frank?”

“Frank can be let off the hook Mother.”

“Are we doing this again?”

“Ma, the mistake you made me do was going through that stupid plan with you. Let him go! I don’t want him, right now; all I want is Frannicky to have my attention”

“Why do you keep doing this?”

“Mother. I am not here to ask for your support or your advice. You called me here so please, skip all what you are about to start because, you made me waste my time with Frank all this while and I’m not willing to do this again.”

“So you want to marry an old man now, who is old enough to be your father.

“Yes Mother! Now that you even made me realize, I really need that man since my mother never gave me a fatherly care!”

“Well, since you are desperate for a fatherly care, I hope he doesn’t die on the night of your wedding”

“No mother, he won’t die until he has made me his wife and when he dies, I will have everything.” “You are really that stupid Hun?”

“I know you meant clever mother.”

“No daughter, if you are clever with a good brain, you won’t be talking like a desperate gold digging whore!”

“Mother, all I can see right now is jealousy. If you were a good mother, you would be happy for me and you would support me. How dare you call me a whore? Did you see what you were doing before I came home? Selling yourself cheaply all in the name of having a man. Do you see I’m the true daughter of my mother?” 

“I am only protecting you so that you wouldn’t make the same mistake I made. Please, stay with the man that loves you so you won’t end up like me, lonely and miserable.” Her mother pleaded.

“I do not need your protection mother. Besides, the only difference between us is , I am clever enough to use what I have to get what I want and I don’t mind stepping over anybody. Even my own mother!”

 “What are you saying?”

“I am saying goodbye to you mother and you can give yourself those cheap pieces of advice. I wonder why those advises never worked for you . I won’t come here again mother and I promise you, the next time you will hear of me, I would have become the “First lady of Frank Nicholas” 

“Then go and never come back.

“Keep dreaming Mother. Don’t bother to wait because this is the last time you will be seeing me here” 

Debby stiffened as she realized this was the conversation she had with her mother the last time she was here. This was enough to bring her down..

“You will not use that Mother.” She shouted in a trembling voice.

“You will hear your voice on every radio station, every T.V station from tomorrow. You will be chased out of that mansion you so desire like a dog. No one would want you. Your career will be ruined. Just as you ruined my happiness”

Debby panicked. This wasn’t going to happen, she had to do something fast.

“I swear if that thing gets out Mother…!”

“You can do nothing to me anymore child..It’s my turn now” her mother replied calmly.

Debby stood up and walked out of the house. She could hear her mother’s laughter as she stepped out of the house. This was not what she had expected. She needed to do something about this…
