Unwavering Guts - Episode 10

 

The 1st semester examination had commenced and Bayo had no problem passing papers. Reading became his hobby so he was scarce even Ada barely saw him. 

The last day of examination came and Bayo read as much as he could to write down something meaningful and appealing. He always come out of the hall smiling because he was sure he's getting straight A's for the semester though some lecturers can never give you an A but he was sure of himself. 

He decided to have a chat with Ada after a long while and she was so delighted to see him. He always got girls crushing on him especially Ada's friends . " Oh my God, he's so cute" "Totally handsome" "I could marry him" " My crush for life" "And he's got swag" "he totally knows how to treat a lady" Ada's friends kept saying as Bayo approached

" Hello ladies" 

" Hi" 

"Can I borrow her for some time?" 

"Yea sure" "She's all yours" "she's your wife remember?" Ada's friends said

"Alright babe, come on" Bayo said walking out with Ada "It's been a while, I guess" 

"Yea, exams I totally understand" Ada said 

" Well it's been fun really, I finally felt like my dad a little bit, he loves reading" 

" Wow we've got similar dads" 

" How about we go to a restaurant" 

" Nah.. Let's just sit down somewhere and discuss" 

" Alright then but I think I prefer the walk"

. my parents are coming over tomorrow, they said they are going to stay in a hotel for the night and then I'll be going with them" 

" okay..?"

" I want to introduce you to them" 

" Oh no, common you do know how fathers can be" 

" Please... For me...?" 

" Alright, alright" 

" And my dad is cool, you're going to love him" 

" I hope so" 

" Stop that" Ada said laughing

Bayo had to dress responsible to please Ada's parents. He went with Ada to them. Her parents had booked a table outside the hotel with lots of drinks and food they were informed of Bayo's coming. 

Bayo and Ada approached the table and had their seats. 

" Mum, dad meet Bayo, Bayo meet my parents 

" Good evening sir, Good evening madam" Bayo said bowing his head a little 

" Good evening young man" Mr. Ikechukwu; Ada's father said 

" How was your day?" Mrs. Ikechukwu said

" It was okay Ma" 

They started eating their food and were silent for a while but then Mr. Ikechukwu broke the silence. 

" So.. Adebayo right?" 

" That's correct sir" 

" Ada told me a lot about you, I guess you must be a nice person" 

" Yes sir" 

" So how's your parents?" 

" They are okay sir" 

" Adebayo..? Adebayo..? Your are from yoruba right? 

" Totally, proudly yoruba"

" You know I do like that name; your name, I guess you got it from your father or..?" Mrs. Ikechukwu said 

" Well my mum and dad came up with the name; Adebayo oladupo" 

" That's nice" 

" Thank you Ma" 

" So which course are you studying in college?" Mr. Ikechukwu said 

" Engineering sir, electrical engineering" 

" That's my boy, we both have something in common. So Bayo? You chose to study here or.." 

" Well, I chose this school because I thought it best to study here and the weather condition is appealing, I love igbos by the way, I mean their culture, their personality "

" Great, so you're in support of Biafra? "

" Well, sir I must say, I am not in support of Biafra because I think it'll only bring war to Nigeria "

Mr. Ikechukwu wasn't happy with this statement, he turned to Ada angrily

" Actually what Bayo was trying to say was he hates wars" Ada said trying to cover up Bayo 

" Bayo, did Ada mention anythi..." 

" Umhum" Mrs. Ikechukwu choked cutting Mr. Ikechukwu short

Mr. Ikechukwu dropped his cultleries and left the table angrily 

" Excuse me please, just a second" Mrs. Ikechukwu said leaving the table also

She rushed to Mr. Ikechukwu and stopped him from leaving 

" Honey!! Honey please not here, please" she said

" I thought you warned your daughter strictly" Mr. Ikechukwu said angrily

" I'll tackle it, but please let's go back to the table, please" 

Mr. Ikechukwu went back to the table but he wasn't happy again throughout the night. He kept looking at Ada angrily.
