The Pain Of The Poor - Episode 20
Thanks everyone for aways making out time to comment on my story, And sorry for the delay, but am back now so lets ride on.
Previously
" Get in at once " She ordered ( stepmother ). I got so scared of the look she gave me not to talk of her voice, she sounded so deep and scary. So I went in to the hut and she shut the door after us ( my brother and I ), I was met by a sound, " Sssssss " which I recognized immediately . It was the sound of a snake but where can it be? it's sounding very close and how can there be a snake in the house we were in here same hours ago. This and so many other questions popped up in my head by thee was just no answers for them all.
So I summoned all the courage that I have got and went in search of the snake, tracing the sound but I needed not search for long, for it was right above our head.
Haaaaaaa ( shouting ) It's a big cobra snake dangling right above our head with it's tongue in and out of it's mouth just a few inches away from my brother and I and If I don't do any thing now it might bit us in a matter of seconds.
what can I do, oh Ada think think (heating my head) and immediately an idea popped into my head and I made for it.
I grabbed my little brother and made for the door only to find my stepmother standing outside there and laughing her heart out on both me and my brother, and for a minute out there I got frozen to a spot then I started thinking was it possible that she (stepmother) has been here all along?
Does it mean she never left as she claimed she was going to? but no that can't be she wasn't, she couldn't have been here all along .
If not she would have entered the house for I have been shouting for help since I thought as I went lost in my thoughts.
Only for me to be brought back to reality by my little
brother's cry "snake snake " the snake ! oh yes it can crew out in no time from now, So I called out to her once again for help and she only gave me that deadly look and hissed saying so now you need my help you can't kill an ordinary snake ehn!
But if it was to report me now (Rose) it won't take you time rubbish. If you know what is good for you, you better get back in there now

. What! Mother is that how Much you hate me? that you now ask me to go in to the house were a big cobra snake is ? that you now wish me death!.
I asked her, and she just walked out on me without a word living my brother and I in the house, alone to face the horror and I had to watch her live the compound and that was when it be came clear to me that she has actuallybeen there all along and hearing our cries as well but still did nothing .
so I came to the conclusion that she knew about the snake. But that
day being EKE market day didn't help us (my brother and I ) at all for the whole village felt like a grave yard.
So with no one to turn to for help, I took my brother and left the house to the road side to wait for my parents. We had to fed on fruits because fear won't allow me to go in to the house and prepare something.
So we stayed out there till mum and dad got home in evening, I really didn't know what time it was because clock wasn't what we see everyday but judging by mother nature which was the sun it must have been 6:00pm. by the time they got back home only to met us by the roadside crying and hungry at the same time.
