The Pain Of The Poor - Episode 16

 

Hello guys how am i doing? Hope the story is coming together. 
 As you all know this is my very first story and mind you am always open for any suggestions of yours to help improve my write up.

This one is dedicated to all my frequent readers enjoy....

Previously on the last episode ...,

  Mother what are you doing I shouted out of shock.  As I walked in to met her using my mother's cooking pot to wash her pants and  her baby's napkins. I found it unbelievable but she only looked at me and hissed and continued with what she was doing and I just stood and watched on as she washed, as soon as I sighted her back turned I made for the pot and poured all the clothes on the floor, it was after doing so that I remember that I was home alone with her.

Oh! am finished why didn't I think before acting who is going to save me from this woman today? All this questions danced in my head as  she saw what I have done, I made to run but my legs betrayed me by getting rooted to the sport.

PA!  I heared as i saw myself on the floor . I think that was the  hottest slap i ever got because I  wanted to cry but tears  also refused to come and before I  could get up there came another one and another one again that I lost count of it and passed out by the time I opened my eyes it was already evening and everything was like a bad dream. could I have being dreaming all along oh yes that most be it, I assured myself.

Just then she came to me again ,  now I was really scared of being beaten all over again that is if I hadn't been dreaming, that I started calling for help when she grabbed me by the arm and told me to be quiet or she will start again from where she had stopped so I kept mint as she warned me" look here you stupid girl if by any chance you open that your dirty mouth tomorrow to tell your stupid mother or my husband of what you saw I would skin you a life" you hear me, I only nodded my head in return.

Now it was confirmed that I wasn't having a bad dream as I had  thought, but it was all real, as I was still trying to process everything she said to me so no food for you in this house till your  foolish mother comes back.

She must have kept on talking but I was lost in my thoughts that I didn't hear anything she was saying again and now to top it all up no food for me till my mother comes back oooh chi moo what will I do now(crying and lamenting ) till I fell asleep. 

The next morning i woke up very hungry  but I still did all my house chorus and got ready for school when my stepmother came and told me we were going to the farm , but today is school day I said and she answered me saying if you let me repeat myself  again may heavens help you for your foolish of a mother won't recognize you when she returns that I assure you idiot let me go in there and come out and meet you still standing there then you will see fool.

I was very very hungry and had no energy for farm work but what can I do i just had to obey, so I went in removed my uniform and changed to my farm clothes and went out back as soon she saw me she told me to go ahead that she would join me after eating so I  left for the farm in an empty stomach. 

On my way to the farm I met John my friend, Ada what are you doing with a cutlass this morning are you not coming to school ? he asked then I told him how my stepmother refused me going to school that morning and how I have been denied food since the previous day afternoon but keeping aside the issue of the pot from him and out of pity he went back home and brought food for me and asked if he should stay and help me but I refused telling him that I would be needing him to teach me what was taught back in school later on, so he had to go and also taking the plate along with him so that my stepmother won't find out when she comes.

I had been working and it's noon now and I haven't set my eyes on my stepmother,she didn't come to the farm, she only used that to get me out the house to do whatever God knows.

By now I was tired and I  decided to go back home on getting home I discovered that mother and father had returned from their trip  I was so happy, and  then the real dream started " Ada you this girl so it was farm you went to that I have being looking for you since morning thinking maybe you have gone to school" my stepmother said and this left me speechless. 

Hi friends it is  Ada, I need your advice should I keep quiet just as my stepmother told me to or should I tell my parents what I saw and have been through  since they left the house ? Please  advise me.
