The Man I Love - Episode 3

 

Lying on the bed, Emeka tries moving his hand but felt restraint.

 he manages to open his eyes slowly only to be awakened by the beautiful smile of a
 young lady in her early twenties on a 
uniform, Standing beside him.

She must be a nurse, he thought to himself,

Lifting up his eyes, he saw his hand connected to a drip, the liquid was dropping
 slowly...

“Good morning, finally you are awake” she says as she checks his pulse holding his wrist.

“What happened?” he asked when it 
dawned on him that he was obviously in an hospital.

“You were brought in by a young lady and
 her husband I suppose, you were really in a bad shape, thank goodness they brought you in on time. 

Also, they’ve paid the hospital bills” The nurse reported.

I must have remained unconscious till they returned from their outing apparently, Emeka thought to himself.

“Where is the lady?”

“I haven’t seen her nor her husband since your admission”

“Stop saying he’s her husband! He shrieked in anger

The nurse held her heart in her mouth, she was startled…

“Please relax” she manages to speak in a trembling voice.

You really need to calm down for your health’s sake, you’re really stressed”.

 Tears clouded his eyes,

He tilted his head away from the nurse, making it easier for tears to flow effortlessly through his cheeks. 

“Sir, I honestly don’t know your plight, but what I do know is that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel no matter how dark it may be, you will be fine ".
 she encouraged.

“I’m sorry I raised my voice, I truly appreciate you for your concern, please can I leave now, I want to leave this state as soon as possible”.

“You can’t leave now sir, the Doctor said you will be discharged tomorrow, please take care of yourself, I have to check other patients now” she says writing down some observations on his record file. She closed the file and walks away.

Emeka was the youth president of his church, he has encouraged many persons that
 suffered from one issue or the other, 

And he never hesitates to visit the feeble
 kneels in the church, it was now his turn. 

But how can he tell everyone he is broken
 when they see him as a superman.

His love for Hani knew no bound, his heart was shattered.

"where will I go from here....I just want to
 die, i can't live without Hani” he lamented as he sat on the floor in bewildment.

He has spoken with his pastor (generally
 addressed as ‘daddy’ by all the church mem bers) on his relationship challenges.

 His younger brother also knew everything
 except for the fact that Emeka was really
 affected by the ordeal as he often smiles 
and says all is well, that he has moved on 
when in reality he was battling with heartbreak.

Tosin is an usher in Emeka's church, she’s in her mid twenties and has never dated
 anyone. 

She is beautiful and full of beans, homely, virtuous and dedicated to the work of God.
 She carries herself with so much dignity 
which attracted a lot of persons to her. 

Despite the fact that she has gotten
 proposals from different bothers she turned them down as she wasn’t attracted to any.

She and Emeka are really close pals with no strings attached as she is fully aware that he is engaged to Hani.

 Emeka after his discharge from the hospital didn't return to Hani's house, he came
 straight to Benin.

While he sat on the floor, he thought about how his family and friends had told him to forget Hani, but he loved  her too much to let her go.

 He arose and walked towards the balcony
 holding a glass filled with poisoned juice in his hand. 

"I will end it all today" he said to himself...

“I've always served God with all my heart 
and in all my years of being with Hani I never abused her neither did I involve in things that was not pleasing to God, despite the fact that it was difficult, I was faithful still, 

I did not sin against you God… why me!” He cried out

“she is my only desire, prepare to answer
 my questions God...I'm coming…” he looked at the poisoned juice as streams of tears 
flowed freely from his eyes.

   As he held the glass and was about to 
drink it, Tosin who was already in the house was calling out his name till she saw him at the balcony.

 he didn't notice her presence as he was lost in thoughts.

 She drags the glass of juice from him and 
started laughing so loud

 "So you are here enjoying all by yourself 
when I’m feeling peckish, and to think that I’ve been looking for you all over the house, by the way, where is your brother?”

she asks as she swilled the juice around in
 the glass and was about to drink it.
