Vil and Hani stared at the doctor
eye-opened.
“Congratulations ma’am, you are ten weeks pregnant” he said smilingly.
You might have to come back subsequently so we can keep a close watch on you” he added.
Vil kept his cool until the Doctor left.
“Preg what! he screamed
Silence
She burst into tears...
Hani what did I just hear? how is that
possible? He asked angrily
Vil got up and went straight to the reception, he concluded the needed formalities and returned to the room Hani was.
She looks at him as though he had a hand in it.
“Don't give me that look Hani! He glared..
that night is not even up to one month talk more of ten weeks.
"Besides, I've never touched you, that day
you agreed to allow me I didn't.
Ehmmm…ehn.. I actually added sleeping
pills to the juice i gave you," he stammered softly
I honestly couldn’t bring myself to defile
God’s temple which happens to be your
body, he continued…
While I was consumed in my lust, I
suddenly remembered the promise I made
to God: to keep myself till i was married,
Tosin also taught me during my service
days, to live a principled life. She changed
my views about a lot of things in life.
She was actually my role model in Niger
state unknown to her, honestly, her life
influenced me greatly, no wonder I couldn’t help loving her." He blunted out in tears...
"She is the woman I love!
I’m sorry Hani, I actually made you believe
something happened and i allowed you to wallow in guilt,
I understood the fact that you conformed to my desires simply because you wanted to please me,
I honestly didn’t know how to tell you i
changed my mind hence I deluded you.
I’m obviously not the father of this child,” he concluded.
Hani was dazed, her two hands were
already on her head as she was astonished at his shocking revelations.
“Vil!” she shrieked as she cries even louder
“who is the father of this child, is it Emeka?” he asks
"No, Emeka can’t be responsible, we never
got physical in our five years of being
together,
" I’m finished oh!” She exclaimed hopelessly.
They left the clinic and entered the car, her brother quickly embraced her on seeing her.
She gave him a forced smile…
No one uttered a word till they arrived at
her house.
They got home and her parents were excited and appreciated Vil for his kindness.
“God bless you my son” her mother
ploughed on in praises and in prayers for
him.
They asked her siblings to go inside on Vil's request as he had a pressing issue on
ground he wanted to discuss.
“Hani is pregnant and neither Emeka nor me is the father “
“what!” her parents screamed in anger and surprise, her mother was already in tears as though the tears had been waiting to drip down for long.
"Hani whose child are you carrying?" Her
parents asked.
“if it’s not Emeka nor Vil, then who?" her
father asked in a firm but low tune.
“I was raped some time ago while returning from a retail shop few streets from mine…" she revealed.
It was at about 10pm and I wanted to get
some thing urgently but the shops in my
street had closed for the day,
I decided to check out one more shop a few streets away from mine before returning back home. I didn’t even bother to ask any of my neighbors to accompany
me, as I was used to walking at night.
Not long, I bumped into a gathering of hoodlums, i was a bit irkish by the reeking smell of alcohol and cigarette.
I knew this was bad news, my heart
skipped,
I immediately increased my steps and later opt for running backwards, I must have run out of luck that day.
They caught me,
I screamed and struggled all through but no one came to my rescue.
Their strength overpowered mine. Two of men I suspect to be their gang leader raped me one after the other. While the others kept watch and held me down.
How I got home is a story for another day..."
