Koni was growing restless, he wanted to be done with this mission and go back to his bride. He had decided to come out clean and tell her his true nature. The stakeout in the old abandoned coffee factory where the amanani were said to be habiting. The amanani they were holding had decided to talk after intense interrogation, he revealed there hideout. They had come to a conclusion that the beasts were hiding inside the old coffee factory . Dume and Manute had watched movement in and out the old depilated building and they noticed that during the day, it was quiet but at night movement increased. People moved in and out. People whom they suspected were possessed by the amanani. They moved as if they had been programmed.

Living with Vuyanzi had its perks and also its downside. She didn’t follow rules. She didn’t listen to him and challenged him at every turn. Except when he kissed her she softened and mellowed against him. Like this morning when she decided to try and run away from the house forgetting her neck wound was still not healed. Koni had caught her sneaking down the stairs. Ma. Anika was out so they was all alone in the house. The doctor had checked on her the previous evening and concluded that her neck injury was healing well, her dislocated shoulder was also fine. The doctor had said that it wouldn’t be long before she was free to go away

. Vuyanzi had perked up to the idea but Koni was not amused. He was running out of excuses to keep her at his side. You can tell her the truth, his beast growled at him.

Koni didn’t want Vuyanzi to leave but he also didn’t want to hold her down. He had told her that she was being hunted but Vuyanzi brushed him off not understanding how wild animals would hunt her down. He almost told her about his true nature which was the next option but he feared her rejection. She would only view him as a senseless beast. The last few day he stayed with her he had come to learn that Vuyanzi loved animals, she was passionate about them but all that changed when the hyenas attacked her. She had nightmares about the hyenas, her horrifying screams kept him awake most nights. Whenever he kissed her neck, she would flinch when his canines scraped her. Koni wondered how he would break it to her that he was a man and also a beast. How would he tell her that to complete the mating he had to bite her on the same neck that was bitten by the hyenas? Koni cussed under his breath causing Sudi to throw him a sideways glance.

You better keep it down boss, we don’t want to alert the whole town we are here, Sudi’s voice penetrated through his head.

Koni wanted to answer before Dume muttered, we have a jeep approaching the building from the right.

Koni decided to keep Vuyanzi off his head so as to complete this mission. He had to get the amanani out if he was to successfully secure his bride and the population of wild animals in the reserve.

I can see a total of five men dressed in black clothes, they are carrying AK 47 rifles with them Koni.

Ok remember how we planned this, nobody move and wait for my signal Koni reminded everyone

The sun was low in the horizon, a perfect time for them to strike. They were lucky that the location of the abandoned factory was out of town. It was hidden behind a cluster of trees and made a perfect hideout for their enemies.

The men moved inside the factory but two remained out. Koni followed the shadows and stalked closer to one of the men, he kept an eye out for the gun that the man held. Koni realized that they were dressed in the same clothing as the poachers they had caught sometime back.

Quietly, he approached one of the men and pounced on him, pinning him with a headlock. At the same time Sudi approached the other man and knocked him out behind the head. Dume and Manute followed Koni and Sudi into the building afterwards. Dembe was left to tie the two men together before joining the others.

They entered the dark building and silently took positions behind some big rustic machines that were too old and Koni feared if they were touched they would disintegrate like sand. As their eyes got accustomed to the darkness, Koni could see a fire burning in the middle of the room. Several people surrounded the fire their backs turned on them. Koni could hear snap chats of their conversation.

‘’…you broke the agreement,’’ a nasally voice said.

‘’…we tried our best, it was not easy to track…down. She….all over the town by the time we caught up to her,’’ another voice complained.

‘’…silence,’’ the nasally voice demanded, ‘’you had one job, bring back the dancing bride and we release you but you failed like always,’’ who was we, Koni wondered.

‘’We are not here to discuss this clansmen, the last attempt failed we have to look for another solution now,’’ another voice jumped in.

Koni we have to attack now if we are to catch them unawares, Manute’s voice came through.

Yes, I can count a total of twelve to fifteen men, it will be a walk in the park Koni, if we go now Sudi screeched.

No wait for my signal, they are discussing something here, we need to know what to stay ahead of the game Koni silenced them.

‘’The warrior is protecting her now, we can’t get to her easily,’’ another voice chimed in

‘’She has not left the reserve since that night, we simply can’t get to her without going through the lion,’’ this voice agreed with the other.

‘’The warrior can’t protect her forever, we will get our chance, in fact I have a secret weapon, ’the nasally voice said confidently.

‘’Secret weapon?’’

‘’Shhh, someone is in here,’’ the nasally voice suddenly said.

‘’Warriors run,’’ the nasally voice warned in a panicked voice.

Attack now, Koni commanded they had been busted.

All hell broke loose.

When the warriors appeared the amanani scattered all over the room. Some charged towards the warriors, some ran for the door. Koni tried to track the amanani that had the nasally voice but it had disappeared in the chaos. His eye glinted in the dark as he tried to search. An amanani stormed towards him but Koni easily avoided its elongated claws and punched him on the nose. The human fell and the amanani escaped, it’s sickening body charging towards Koni again, screeching loudly. Koni dug his claws inside the neck and pulled the windpipe out. The amanani disappeared in a wisp of smoke.

Koni casted his eyes around the room and felt someone watching him. He shifted his eyes up and on the beams of the large building Koni could see golden eyes glinting back at him. With his improved eye vision Koni could not believe what he was seeing. Another lion spirit warrior was sitting up there glaring at him. But that was impossible, he could clearly see his brothers fighting beside him as the amanani disappeared, who was that perched up there? And why was he glaring at Koni?

With practiced ease Koni jumped up the wall and landed on the beam a feet away from the other spirit warrior. What was another warrior doing in the midst of amanani? The rotten wood and metallic poles they stood on was shaking precariously threatening to haul both of them down.

‘’State your name and clan warrior?’’ Koni demanded moving closer to the other beast.

‘’Jasiri, you of all people should know who I am,’’ the other warrior said and to Koni’s dismay he realized that the beast had the nasally voice that had talked about kidnapping Vuyanzi.

‘’State your name and clan warrior?’’ Koni demanded again coming closer to the other beast.

‘’You are asking the wrong question Jasiri?’’ he taunted Koni.

‘’I am your biggest nightmare warrior, a time of reckoning has come,’’ the beast shrieked and pounced at Koni, its claws out and canines glaring.

The beam gave in to their weight and they both took a tumble down to the cemented floor. Koni was knocked out of breath and the amanani lay beside him. A pole had been driven through his heart. The other beast had died with its tongue hanging out and its golden eyes glaring. Koni tried to sit but a sharp pain tore through his abdomen.

‘’Koni don’t move,’’ Manute said crouching beside him breathing heavy and wiping his brow by the back of his palm.

Koni looked around and noticed that all the amanani were gone. The human possessed were being tied up and placed to lean against the wall.

. Koni tried to stand but the pain in his abdomen stopped him. He looked down and saw blood sipping from a wound on his naked stomach. A rustic pole had pierced him on the stomach. He flinched. It hurt.

‘’Koni sit still, I will try to remove the pole,’’ Manute was breathing hard and Koni nodded. He knew the only way to heal quickly was to remove the rustic pole. He bit down his teeth as Manute pulled the stick out. A cold sweat broke out of his brow. Dume held him down by the shoulder to stop him from moving.

A quick tug and the pole was out. Blood was sipping out of the wound faster and Koni started feeling light headed ness. It didn’t take long before he passed out.
