‘’What do we have here Dume,” Koni stalked closer to the operating table at the coroner’s office. The room was brightly lit and sparkly clean but the smell of death could not be washed away. Several cabinets lined the walls it was where they stored refrigerated bodies. Koni looked grimly at the naked body on the table. It was a male, well built with dark skin . His hair was shaggy and unkempt. He looked like he had been living a hard life up until that moment. He was the other lion spirit warrior who had attacked him at the old tea factory. They had whisked his body out of town and into a special hospital in the region.

‘’Well Koni this is definitely a spirit warrior, a lion like us. His name is Bor and he comes from the Ukiri clan. He is our clansman Koni.’’ Dume answered somberly.

‘’A clansman, that is a surprise. How did he come to be in league with the amanani?’’ Koni ran his large hands through his dreadlocks, he had not tied them up. They fell on his wide shoulders.

‘’That is what we have to find out. It’s rare that we are being attacked by one of our own.’’ Dembe shook his head. They were all trying to come in terms with the shock of being attacked by a spirit warrior, one of their own.

‘’What if there are more defects out there?’’ Sudi asked leaning against the door, his lean shadow silhouetted by the lights outside the corridor, his normally cheeky demeanor absent.

‘’We have to contact Baraza La Wazee urgently, if we are being attacked by one of our own, we will need to inform them

. Our whole existence might be compromised by this incident,’’

‘’You are right, Manute. Notify the headquarters as soon as possible. Let me know when they get back to us,’’

Loud noises came from the door on one end of the corridor. All the five warriors in the room tensed muscles tensed ready to attack. Koni sniffed the air

‘’it’s the rainmaker,’’ Koni cleared but that did not make them relaxed, in fact it made them more agitated.

‘’What does he want?’’ Sudi snarled.

Manute stepped outside the room and intercepted the old man.

‘’What are you doing here?’’

‘’I need to see Koni Jasiri, your team leader,’’ Guma said, he was dressed oddly in clothes that seemed too big for his frail body. His whitened hair was long and standing on end. He had bright eyes and for once he appeared to be sober.

‘’I will not go anywhere until I talk with Koni Jasiri, so let me pass. Every time I make an appointment, he is either busy not in town. You can’t keep me from seeing him. If he wants to save Lishevi’s granddaughter daughter, he will see me,’’ Guma took a step aside the boulder of a man blocking him but Manute didn’t let him pass. Manute only shook his head and folded his arms across his chest frowning down on the old man.

There was a time spirit warriors were in close terms with rainmakers. But it was all different now.

‘’Manute, let him in,’’ Koni’s somber voice came through. He had been avoiding to meet up with the rainmaker but now it seemed inevitable now that he dragged Vuyanzi to all of this.

‘’Koni rainmakers betrayed us. We shouldn’t be encouraging this,’’ Sudi reasoned.

‘’Not this rainmaker,’’ Guma’s voice answered Sudi. ‘’I didn’t betray anyone.’’ Sudi snarled at him, bearing out his sharp canines. Guma took a step back and Sudi smirked.

Guma cleared his throat and turned to Koni, ‘’Look, we both want the same thing, Lishevi’s granddaughter to be safe.’’

‘’Go on am listening,’’ Koni prompted Guma to talk, his face a mask. He didn’t trust Guma but he would give him a listening ear.

‘’Let’s have this talk privately,’’

‘’No, whatever you say. You can say it before us all. We are after all a team,’’

‘’Well, you being her spirit warrior, her life is going to be short. Vuyanzi is destined to die young like her mother and father. Death follows her like a black shadow,’’ Guma predicted.

‘’What?’’ Koni frowned at the rainmaker, he was not making much sense. What was he saying about Vuyanzi?

‘’It can be avoided if we work fast and eliminate the dark shadow that surrounds her. We have to work together to save the life of your bride, warrior.’’ Guma went on his unflinching gaze focused on Koni.

‘’No, we can’t trust a rainmaker Koni. We can protect your bride,’’ Sudi was already up in arms.

‘’Not on your own, you are facing a far worse adversary than you know. This is not the normal amanani spirit warrior fight you are used to. We have to work together like in the old days, warriors,’’ Guma implored them, he didn’t know how to put how grievous the situation was to the warriors, they seemed hell bent to not trusting him. What they didn’t know was that they needed him more than he needed them. Guma was hell bent on saving Vuyanzi’s life. He and the warriors had one goal. Why don’t they see it

‘’Why would we ever trust you? There was a time you were in league with the very amanani, your people enabled the amanani to possess human and animals. It made detecting them hard,’’

‘’that is where you are wrong Koni, you said my people. Not me, I had nothing to do with it. You cannot judge me for the mistakes of my forefathers,’’

‘’Oh yes we can, how can you be different. This might be here to distract us from going after the amanani,’’

‘’Is the person lying in the table an amanani?’’ Guma asked pointing a finger at the corpse of the warrior on the table, ‘’no he is not. This one is one of you, have you encountered such a problem before?’’ the room went deathly quiet.

’Hii ni ujinga (this is bullsh*t),’’ Sudi cursed throwing his hands in the air.

‘’Sudi…,’’ Koni warned his brother to be quiet. ‘’Go on, is there something you know that we don’t?’’

‘’About the attack? No but about the person on the table? Yes.

. I know a lot about him.’’\

‘’Who is he?’’ Koni commanded, he had to find out more about the warrior and he didn’t have time to go through the database at their headquarters.

‘’He is a very vengeful warrior, a cast out. You know what that means,’’ Koni knew what a cast out warrior was. The cast outs were thrown out of Baraza La Wazee because they defied they went against their nature as warriors which was to protect human lives. Cast out warriors were ousted because they took human lives for pleasure. The lives they had sworn to protect against the amanani.

‘’He killed an innocent man.’’ Manute said

‘’That does not explain how he came in contact with our core enemies, what was he doing at that abandoned building that evening?” Koni needed more answers.

‘’You know what they say about the enemy of my enemy is a friend,’’

‘’Spirit warriors are loyal to Baraza La Wazee, we are designed to go after the amanani and finish them off. Not join hands and conspire together,’’ Sudi emphasized. Like everybody else, he was finding it hard to believe that the warrior could collaborate with the amanani. That was the ultimate betrayal.

‘’Come to think of it, the amanani have been growing smart in the recent years, does it mean that they were being in touch with the cast outs?’’ Dume who had been quiet all this time asked.

‘’If that is true then how many cast outs are out there? And what if they have already infiltrated the council, Baraza la Wazee has to be informed of this immediately,’’ Manute voiced out trying to look at the situation from all angles.

‘’We are not even sure if they are others, Dume.’’ Sudi emphasized.

‘’Warrior, we can’t ignore the signs. Its right before your eyes,’’ Guma said loudly stamping his feet on the tiled floor of the morgue.

‘’Watch it rainmaker,’’ Sudi glared and stepped in front of Guma who took a step back

‘’Come down all of you, this is what we are going to do,’’ Koni started giving out instructions. ‘’…,’’ he had to dilute the situation before it escalated.

‘’Koni we have a situation,’’ Dembe was talking silently on his phone near the door, Koni raised his eyebrows at him ‘’ it’s about Vuyanzi,’’
