The Bet - Episode 5

 

"You're going out with my brother on a date?" Gina asked in class shocked

"Its not really a  date, he just wants to hang out with me....maybe see a movie"Jessica replied

Gina  stared at her surprised, Jessica had not gone out for a year now, what had changed?

"chill out girl, Alex is someone am totally comfortable with, its just to the movies besides you can come along if you want"Jessica continued

"No thanks, three is a crowd" She leaned back on the seat"so when did this asking out start?"she asked

"He just asked to hang out with me before he leaves"

"And?"

Jessica looked at her" And what?"

"And you said yes?!"

"What was I supposed to say, I just want to give it a try, besides your brother seems like a real nice guy"she said

"So you are into him" Gina probbed accusingly

"I'm no..." She paused "well who wouldn't be, he's hot" she agreed

"Gag..I ll make sure he hears that"Gina said

"Say goodbye to our friendship then" Jessica leaned on the desk and stared into space, as the class continued being rowdy while they  waited for the next lecture, Gina stared at her noticing the new glow in her looks, glad she was moving on but not sure if she was comfortable with her dating her brother, what if she gets hurt..

After class Jessica turned to look at her

"I think I should take it slow"she said

"My thoughts exactly"

"So please, please come along" she pleaded

Gina thought she was going to cancel the date altogether but..it was good for her to go out

"My brother is gonna hate me but sure..we three can go together"

They went to the movies that evening and hung out every other day at the beach, party, hotels, etc Jessica was having fun, and Alex tried in vain to ditch his sister, Jessica always wanted her around because of her fear of letting go completely. She didn't want to fall in love with him because he was completely lovable, she was caught staring at him at the beach...

"What?"he asked

" whoever your gonna date is gonna be so lucky "she said

He held her gaze then chuckled and stared at his sister coming out from the water"I guess"he replied

They went to the movies a day later, he was leaving finally that weekend and Gina had rain checked because she had a date with her fiance, it was a romantic comedy and Jessica busied laughing and eating her popcorn, it was when she laughed and looked at him to make a comment that she discovered he had been staring at her all through the movie,  she gulped as her heart started pounding..

"You really leaving on Saturday?" She asked to break the ice keeping her popcorn

"Yes"he replied

"So our dates are over, I'm sure  gonna miss it...miss you"she added

He smiled and took her hand"you can always come over to visit..."at her look he added"with Gina of course"he said

"Yeah" her eyes stayed on her hand in his

"I need to talk to you about something"he said

"Okay?"

"It actually seems sudden but I don't know if I ll get the opportunity again"he began

She paused"what could be so serious? "She chuckled, but saw he was serious though

" I've not been with a woman for more than a year.."he began

"Why..I heard Tricia left you"she said

"That's what I told my sister because I don't want her thinking I'm a player..which I'm not..I just.....haven't met the right woman .." he looked at her, she looked away"I've been in love with you for two years Jess..then u were dating and all, I was too, I knew she wasn't for me though.."he paused"..its not been easy..searching for the right time to say it"she looked at him then away, the hall was suddenly hot "I'm in love with you Jessica, I've always pictured you as my wife"

"Alex I.." She paused, her lips were dry, she was shocked beyond measure "...didn't expect this from you..I thought we were just having fun" she met his gaze and saw his heartbroken look, she looked down

"I just want us to be friends" what the hell was wrong with her, this was Alex, she liked him..

"Well I want to be a friend...and more" he said and tilting up her head he kissed her she shut her eyes and tried to respond..where were the sparks she felt weeks ago, what was wrong with her now..why was that guy in her head suddenly.

. he stopped, looked down, then at her, she opened her eyes

"Please say yes..don't turn me down" he pulled back her hair

"Alex you do not know anything about me.." Does he know she was raped by the man she loved and trusted

"I want to..I want to know everything about you..do just give us a chance"

"How I would love to..how I would love to be the lucky girl Alex, you're every girls dream..but I can't.. I'm so sorry"she closed her mouth as a tear broke

"Because I'm your friends brother"he said

"No its not that at all..I just can't date you" she said, she discovered now her mother had pushed her too far, too early, she wasn't ready..

"You would find your perfect woman Alex..but that's not me..I'm not perfect".she finally said shattering the remains of his already broken heart.

There was a long silence as Alex nursed his broken heart..Jessica felt stupid but knew in her heart now that she wasn't ready...she was gonna give it more time.

*so all what do you think, do you think she's ready and it was just the wrong guy??
