Azeezat cried for days hoping her mum would allow her to go back to Nigeria, she refused to go out of her room. After all her attempts to show her mum the video call she had with Uthman, her mum stood firm on her decision not to go anywhere. The last time she tried to convince her mum, Zarah threw Azeezah's phone away and thankfully it landed on the couch saving her from losing her phone and communication to her only source of getting to her friend.

At that time she knew her mum didn't want her to go when she showed her the call, she vowed to be with her best friend no matter what happens. When her mother was out that very day, she bought a lot of junk food from the store to prove to her mum that she can also be difficult . Whenever her mum prepares food, she locked her room from the inside and wouldn't eat. Her mother became worried thinking she might hurt herself while Azeezah quietly eat the junk food she had left.

This was the first time they had a huge argument, Zarah knows deep down that giving in to Azeezah's demand will be a very bad idea, she couldn't risk her daughter's life for a friend she hasn't seen for a long time. She had to play her part as a mother to make her daughter eat, so she gently went to her room to settle things with her. If she has to agree, she will do that just to see her eat.

Zarah:(She knocked on the door) Azeezah, will you open the door? We need to talk.

Azeezah:Mum, you know we can only talk when you agree to my demands.

Zarah:You are making this issue ambiguous to me.

Azeezah:Ambigious? Why do you deny me the right to see my friend? You know this is my only chance to go before college resume.

Zarah:I am doing this for your own good

. Trust me, if i agree to let you go, will you eat?

Azeezah:Yes mum, i will.

Zarah:(She felt defeated but she has to, she is a mother. How could she eat when her daughter refuses food. She swallowed the lump in her throat.) Okay, let's talk about...

Azeezah:(She opened the door before her mother could finish her statement.) Really mother? Can we talk about it? You will allow me to go to her?

Zarah:Yes, only when you eat your food then we can talk about everything.

Azeezah:Off course, i will eat.

(They walked into the dining room, Zarah served her the food and she eat happily. Her mother laughed as she eat, she missed her daughter. After she finished her food, Zarah told her to call Uthman but it wasn't going through.)

Az:He must be busy with work.

Zarah:Busy? If he doesn't pick up the call right now at this moment, i won't listen to your tantrums anymore. It's like you trust him so much.

Azeezah:Let's not start with this arguments again, you promised me that you would allow me go if i come down to eat. Why are you going back on your words?

Zarah:I'm not going back on my words, just giving you a deadline. How do you know that he is busy ehn, i hope there is nothing more to this matter because i can't seems to understand you lately.

Azeezah:He is a grown man and you can't expect him to be online 24/7. It's not like he is irresponsible, he has his own family to fend for.

Zarah:I didn't know my daughter is now old enough to reply to my every word. In fact, you are not going anywhere and believe me when i say that. I don't care if you refuse to eat okay? Just because i love you doesn't mean you have to take it for granted.

Azeezah:Listen to me please.

Zarah:I am your mother, whatever i say is final. I don't want to listen to his conversation and you shouldn't try to call him ever again or else you will not be using any gadgets again. (She stormed out)

(Her mum only tricked her into eating, all she wanted was to get her to support her. She was going to take a drastic measures, she has to leave for Nigeria if her mother likes it or not. Whatever happens to her, she will bear the consequences. She messaged him immediately, knowing fully well that she needs to lie because Uthman will not agree to let her come to Nigeria without her mother's consent.)

Call me when you get this message, you can book the ticket for me. My mum agreed to my demands, i hope to get a reply soon.

(She went up the stairs to pack her clothes into a small bag, she wouldn't be needing a lot of clothes there. Besides, she can't allow her mum to get suspicious in anyway.)

******
Azeezah has been in her room waiting patiently for a reply, she couldn't stop thinking about her decision. This was the first time she is going to be disobeying her mother, she pray that she doesn't regret taking this big step. Her mum will be disappointed and angry at the same time but she had no other choice since she refused to listen to her. As she stood up to get herself some water, her phone beeped and she rushed to see who it was. It was a message from uthman.

Really? She agreed? I can't believe this though.

Yes, she did. So can you get the tickets for me and stop asking questions.

Just tell me the truth, i know your mum can't agree just like that. She is supposed to talk to me and know who you are going to be meeting. The last time i asked you, i remember vividly that you told me you had an argument and she is not ready to listen to you. So what changed?

I refused to eat, so she agreed.

I am going to call you right now.

Why?

I need to thank her for everything, i have to assure her that you are in save hands.

Ugh, you can't speak to her right now.

Why?

She is not around.

When she is back then, we would finalize everything then i will book the ticket.

(Az was already frustrated, she hate the way Uthman was taking the matter.)

Do you know what?

What?

The fact is that my mum didn't agree, will you book the ticket or not?

I can't do that. Give me her number, i will try to convince her.

The truth is that you won't be able to convince her. If you know you can't help me, then goodbye. Dont disturb me ever again. Will you help me or not? Yes or no.

Azeezah, try to understand.

Yes or no. That is all i need from you.

No, i can't let you come her without her approval. She would be worried and i am a father too, i know how it feels. She will be so disturbed and I don't want that at all.

Then, forget it. That means, i am not destined to see Summayah again. Don't disturb me ever again. (She threw her phone on the bed, frustrated she cried.) Why is everyone like this, they should understand me.

(She closed her eyes to reminisce about her past with Summayah. She smiled at the memories they shared, through fights, love and most importantly the religion aspect. Summayah was the one that impacted her life in a positive way, she wondered how they started their friendship because she was the opposite. Minutes later, she slept off with a smile on her face.)

******
Azeezah thought of ways to go about it. Then a thought crossed her mind. Her savings, she wasn't the type to spend all her allowance. She quickly carried her piggy banks, she smashed the first one on the floor, causing the content to scatter on the floor.
She did the same for the second one, sitting down, she picked all the currency. After counting she had a total of One thousand, four hundred and fifty nine dollars.

She unlocked her phone, hoping to get a cheap flight to Nigeria, if the money is not enough, there was no how she could get to Nigeria. Stealing wasn't a thing she encouraged, she could never steal from her mother.

She searched through Google, "The cheapest flight from USA to Nigeria." Immediately she got it, she felt happy and jumped up in excitement. She looked at the time, it was four in the afternoon, she went down in prostration and thanked Allah for His mercies He has bestowed on her.

She checked to see if she could get a flight app but she declined the idea almost immediately, she had little savings and if she get scammed through apps then it is over. She stood up to pray, hoping to get a solution very soon.

She set aside her bag, she knew she could get to book a flight ticket from the airport which might take a lot of time but she had to do it as soon as possible. Her mum usually sleep very early, if she could sneak out at that time to the airport, it would be better. She picked up a piece of paper and scribed some words into a piece of paper to give to leave as an apology letter for her mum.

*
It was evening, Zarah was surprised to see her daughter humming in the kitchen. She thought she will still be in her room, sulking  but to her surprise, she was so happy.

"My daughter is back in her senses." She thought.

She moved closer to her.Looking at the dish she was preparing. Azeezah smiled at her before saying her salaam.

Az:Salam Alaikum, mum.

Zarah:Walaykum salaam. What is the occasion oo, to see my dearest daughter in the kitchen, Is there a surprise?

Az:Do i need any surprise before i cook for my dearest Ummi?

Zarah:Hmm, no. I thought you would be upset with me.

Az:I was. I am no longer upset with you. Can you freshen up while i finish with my cooking so that we can eat it while it's still hot and fresh.

Zarah:Yeah, true. I want to taste your delicious food.

(Zarah went up to her room, while she arranged the dinner table. She was about getting the water when her mum showed up.She joined her and they eat together reminiscing about their lives together.)

Az:Mum, do you remember when we got here. The first time i had to go to college? How i was so nervous and you encouraged me? I was so scared of getting accepted but you advised me to be who i am. No matter how much hate i get, i should spread peace.  You told me there wouldn't be any hate but i couldn't agree with you because of my skin colour that can never be changed.

You advised me to be proud of my existence because Allah is the One who created me and He is never wrong or imperfect. You have helped me a lot mum and there is no amount of help i render that can actually qualify the love you have shown me.

Zarah:I am proud to be your mother, i don't know the reason for your outburst but i am really grateful for the lady my daughter is growing into. I can't be more happy than this, may you continue to make me happy and proud.

Azeezah:Amin.

Zarah:After praying, i have to go to sleep. I have a lot of work tomorrow, as they say "Early to bed, early to rise."

Azeezah:Yes mum. I will be done right now, see you later mum in sha Allah.

(She watched her mum go upstairs while she cleaned the kitchen up. An hour later, she gently went into her mother's room to drop her letter. She was grateful she was fast asleep, she moved closer and kissed her on the forehead before wiping her tears. She was surely going to miss her mum but she has to go this for Summayah.)

Mum, you have to forgive your daughter for disobeying you but what could i do. I know you are my top most priority but i just want to see my friend again, i have to be a good friend once again. This might be a trap but i don't care, i hope you find it in your heart to forgive me. Remember i will always love you.

(She quietly moved out of the room, praying two Rakah for Allah's guidance and protection for her mother, for her to bear whatever hardships she encounters. If seeing Summayah is going to be a blessing, then her going there to see her should also be easy. She carried her luggage with her international passport, glancing at the four walls of her room for the last time. She walked out through the back door with an heavy heart.)

Mum, if you had just listened to me this last time then i wouldn't have taken this big step but i hope you stay happy till i am back home. I pray this wouldn't be the last time we set our eyes on each other. I will miss you so much, dearest.
