Tears Of Summayah - Episode 43

 

Uthman entered her ward after a long day, he sat quietly on the chair placed at the corner of the room. Seeing her sleeping peacefully made him happy, he was so pleased to see her like this__at least, she is not worried about anything right now. Dr Maryam brought him out of his reverie. 

Maryam:Hey doctor, you are here? 

Uthman:I came to check if she is alright. 

Maryam:That's good, i need to get some things right. How are you related to her?

Uthman:We are not related in anyway.

Maryam:It just feels like you know each other for a long time.

Uthman:We met weeks ago, it was just Qadr . I happened to see her again that night  she was in a bad condition. 

Maryam:Alhamdulah.

Uthman:So how is she fairing and the test results? 

Maryam:She has been paralyzed and she won't be able to walk for a long time or forever. She has been injected so many times and it affected her legs, i guess the doctor or nurse is a quack. We will run still run series of tests and see the outcome, i don't know what is wrong with her psychologically but she is suffering and we can help her out. 

Uthman:Maryam, i know she is fighting a battle all by herself but I'm ready to help her win no matter what. 

Maryam:Yes,we can and before i forget, she told me her ring and necklace was with her that night you rescued her. Did you perhaps see it because i think it is what she treasure the most after her unborn child

Uthman:I didn't see it but i will check if it is in the car. No doubt about that, she will get that, in sha Allah. 

Maryam:Thank you, i have to get going right now. It's already late, my mom will be worried since my shift is over. 

Uthman:That is why they are the best. 

Maryam:Yes,they are. Goodnight Doc, see you tomorrow__In sha Allah. 

Uthman:Goodnight, make sure to extend my greetings to her. 

Maryam:Okay(She exited and uthman went  back to his seat, he heard her crying. He rushed to her side to see if it was another nightmare.) 

Uthman:Summayah! Summayah!! Talk to me, what is wrong with you. 

Summayah:You...said...mothers...are...the...best...right? 

Uthman:Offcourse they are the best. 

Summayah:That's not true, you are lying to me. My real mother left me all alone, she abandoned me and left__she is not the best.She left me alone in this world to suffer, she never looked back for once or even try to find me. She never did that, you are all liars. Liars. 

Uthman:Summayah,please calm down. 

Summayah:How could she do that to me, i am her child. I haven't made any mistake, i haven't wronged anyone. I was just a small little child, i must have been so useless to her to abandon me. I am just useless, a disturbance to her life. She must have so sick and tired of me__i must have been a big problem for her to abandon me and never look back. I am a burden to everyone. Everyone suffers because of me, even my unborn child. (She cried out loud) 

Uthman:Stop this, Summayah. You are not useless.

Summayah:My foster parents abandoned me too, they never cared to listen. They disowned me and threw me out of their house as if we never shared a bond. I loved them so much but i was just another person's child and it was just easy for them to forget me. The woman i called and know as my mother left me too, she taught me how to walk and eat__she taught me everything. How could she forget the memories we had, all the moments we shared together. 

Uthman:Summayah,they don't know your worth. If they all knew what kind heart you possess, then they would never have let you slip out of their hands for a minute. 

Summayah:I promise, i don't know how i got pregnant. I don't know anything about it, i am innocent. None of them believed me even those people i called my parents. When they don't know what the child they raised from cradle can do, i can't even blame my husband or mother-in-law when they treat me like a trash. I--

Uthman:Wait,You are married? 

Summayah:Yes.

Uthman:I thought you are--

Summayah:Prostitute right?

Uthman:Yes, what happened that night? 

Summayah:I guess that is why they say "Don't judge a book by it's cover, you never know what is inside the book if you don't open to read the content." I have seen life__the bad side, i don't even pray my enemy encounter half  of that phase. About that night, my...husband...forcefully...(He cut her off) 

Uthman:You mean your husband brought you to the hotel? As a prostitute? When you are very sick? You are not in a good condition that day and he still wants you to just sleep around with any guy__ what if you are raped by a drunkard? 

Summayah:He would be happy and satisfied. The jamiu i know was very calm and kind but he changed because of me. He trust and defend me everytime, nobody can say anything bad about me if he is there but everything changed because of my pregnancy. 

Uthman:He should take responsibility or he doesn't want it? He isn't ready? 

Summayah:He is not the father of my unborn child. He never touched me after our marriage, he promised me that. We are both young, he knows his limits. 

Uthman:Nothing happened between the two of you? 

Summayah:Y...Yes. 

Uthman:Are you sure? 

Summayah:(Remembering the first time he forced himself on her, a tear slipped out of her eyes.) Not...until...i...was...pregnant, he forced himself on me. I guess he felt betrayed, he respected me and he didn't expect that from me. Jamiu tried his best to protect me but i was careless one, i am at fault. I am at fault.

Uthman:Did anyone touch you.

Summayah:I never had a male friend, i am always on my own. I don't know how it happened, nobody believe what i say. 

Uthman:I understand how he felt, as a guy he must have felt very bad that you are seeing someone else when he gave you his everything but he did something he shouldn't do. How can he take you to an hotel? That's so disgusting and uncalled for. 

Summayah:You can't understand a lot of things, i don't even know which direction I'm heading to in life. I was found guilty, everything points directly to me__they called me a whore. Allah knows i have tried to be chaste and he knows all the hidden secret nobody know. I am living in total darkness with guilt in my heart, i wonder what jamiu must have turned to after that happened. I never regret keeping the child, if i decide to give birth__society will call him a bastard. They will tag him as a child born out of wedlock,they will blame him and call him fatherless. 

Uthman:Summayah, you are not at fault. I am not here to blame you for anything and don't mind what people say or what they will say. They will get tired eventually, all you have to do is think on how to move forward. Even if you lay down your life for people, you will still see a person that will say "What has she done? She hasn't done anything special." So why do you want to worry yourself about what the world will say__you must have heard the word "Ignore" before. 

Summayah:Yes.

Uthman:It means refuse to take notice of or acknowledge; disregard intentionally by Oxford dictionary. Just ignore anyone that doesn't have any value to add to your life, why will you be hypertensive because of someone. 

Summayah:Thank you but i want to leave this hospital. I hate it here, the drugs and injections. 

Uthman:Haha, you want to go? 

Summayah:Yes.

Uthman:But where will you go to when you fully recover? 

Summayah:I don't know where i will be going to, i can't go back to that hell. I will sleep on the street if possible. 

Uthman:You can stay with me if you want, i have my mother, daughter and two siblings. 

Summayah:You don't need to bother yourself, you have done a lot for me. I can't be a burden to anyone, i want to work and earn for my child. 

Uthman:"Hard Work Madam" Get well before working.

Summayah:You can get me a job?

Uthman:Yes, i can. 

Summayah:Thank you so much, i can finally get my salary.

Uthman:Dont get too excited, you can only get the job if you are fit.

Summayah:I am already fine...(Looking at her legs made her sad) How will i work when i can't move my legs? 

Uthman:Dont worry, it will not be a strenuous job. All you have to do is help my daughter with her assignment and happy all the time. All you have to do is stay with us all, we can support you as a family. 

Summayah:That...is...a...big..responsibility.

Uthman:Calm down, you will pay me the monthly rent when you get your pay from me. 

Summayah:Thank you so much, i am ready. 

Uthman:Then get well soon, i need to get going.(He stood up from his seat) 

Summayah:Thank you so much for everything.

Uthman:You are welcome.(He moved to the door before he turned back)Dont forget to eat when the nurse bring your dinner to you. 

Summayah:(She nod her head) Yes, i will eat it. 

Uthman:I was told you dropped your necklace somewhere. 

Summayah:Did you see it? 

Uthman:Not yet, i will look for it tomorrow morning. 

Summayah:Okay, thank you. 

Uthman:Good night.
