One and a half years Ago
It is said that once people get married their love normalize. Somedays I worried that my husband would get bored of me and that I could never get over him if he ever left.  He had never given me a reason to doubt him.  He was still at the formative stages of forming the partnership at work with Jerry.

On my third trimester I realized how love could even soar to higher heights if well nurtured. I had taken a maternity leave but still had some patients come for their therapy sessions at my house.  There was nothing I loved more like soaking my belly in luke warm water while I let my mind wonder aimlessly over things . I knew Uri loved me but when I carried our child he showed me so much grace than I deserved.

He would come home early and we would stay in the bath tub talking about everything and nothing. Him scrubbing my back making jokes about my bump were moments I waited eagerly for when he left for work in the morning. There was a lot of laughter in our house. In those moments I knew without a doubt that I had not only married my partner but also my soulmate. Its felt like me carrying his child made me more attractive. He would rub my tummy whispering a lot of non-sense to the little one. There is no greater joy in a mother than knowing that your child was already receiving more love than she could ever asked for.

Abigael came in style like any other baby would

. I had the same feeling I always had prior to my periods and I dismissed it as pain radiating as a result of me sleeping with one side for a long time. I had read everything about pregnancy and labor like any expectant mother would and knew that there were so many fake alarms. I did not want to go to the hospital only to be sent back home that my baby was still far of.

When one of the articles said that labor pains were much stronger than mensural cramps, it failed to mention that it meant a million times raised to power fifty. And that still was an understatement. The pain shot all the way to my head giving me a slight migraine. My scream filled the whole house and I gripped the wall tight for the minute or so the contraction lasted. The room went pitch black and moments later when my vision become to clear I found Uri holding me terrified.

“I think the baby is coming.” I said.

He looked at me dazed still trying to process what I was telling him.

“Shouldn’t we wait.”

Before I could respond another pain shot up my spine and I grabbed the sheets and screamed even much louder than the first time. My stomach was tightening, I never felt anything excruciating. This time it lasted for more than a minute. When it finally subsidized I breathed out because I had been holding my breath.

“I thought labor pains are less intense at the onset.”

“Not necessarily, judging from how intense my mensural cramps normally are this makes a lot of sense.”

Our bed was now in a mess. I had yanked all the sheets of it.

“We should go to the hospital.”

“Right.”

Uri brought out my baby bag which was already packed awaiting from this particular moment. He also brought out a fresh a maternity dress and started dressing me up. The third wave of the pain came while he was still dressing me up.
I held onto his hand and he got a fair share of what his wife was going through.

“Uri am never having s"x again.”

Despite the pain on his hand, Uri broke into laughter. I felt a mild sensation between my legs and I instantly knew what it was.

“My water just broke. We need to leave right now.”

Uri led me to the car and thankfully I did not experience any pain wave on my way there.
We reached the hospital within twenty minutes being there was no traffic. The nurses on emergency placed me on a wheel chair and wheeled me to the maternity ward.

. The pain was now back and much more frequent.

“When did she start experiencing labor?” One of the nurses inquired.

“She has been experiencing mild pain throughout the day but we dismissed it. It escalated an hour ago.”

The doctor walked in the maternity ward putting his gloves on.

“Sir we need you to step outside.” The nurse told Uri.

“If you think am leaving my wife here alone you will have to call security.” Uri instead rushed to the side of my bed and held my hand.

“Sweetie pie are you okay?”

“I will be once she is out.”

“You sure it a girl.”

“Yeah.”

While he distracted me with the happy talk the doctor did his work. I was 85 % effaced and 5 cm dilated. The doctors prepped me for delivery while I screamed my lungs out.

Three hours later my baby was really coming out to meet me.
And just when I thought my husband was out of funny ammo. He introduced me to another one of his fun spot. When Abigael’s head emerged, Uri did something ridiculously funny and innocent. One moment he was holding my hand encouraging me to push harder the next he was on the floor passed out. If not for the pain between my legs, I would have laughed my heart out but I had to postpone it. Nevertheless, when my stiches healed, I made sure I revisited that particular memory. Thank Lord for CCTV camera’s I had a video as a reminder.

The proud look on Jimmy, Felicity and Uri as I held my child coupled by the warmth spreading all over my face and body as I stared at the angel in my arm was profound.
Like it is said. Kids are the best jewels a parent can hung around his/her neck.
