As daylight filtered into the room where Obi was, he began to take in sights of the room; he realised he wasn’t the only one there and he didn’t know any of the strange faces he was seeing. There were boys of different ages and physique; some were huge and had beards even though they were only boys. Some of them looked like they were older than Obi while others looked way younger than him . They looked dirty and haggard as if they had been there a long while……
Then it hit him….they had been kidnapped and were going to be sold out by people they didn’t know, to people they didn’t know.
Tears flowed freely down his face at the thought of this and renewed fear rose up in him. The thought of his friends rose up in him and guilt and regret filled his entire being. He sobbed uncontrollably.
The room was a very small with just one window placed at the top corner of one of the walls with well padded doors so no one would escape. Obi secretly wished he knew where his friends were, because he was already getting worried.
-------------------
A little towards midday, a man came in with stainless plate of food and passed it round to the boys.
“You had better eat now….assembly is in ten minutes” he growled in a rough voice.
Obi couldn’t make out the contents of the plate, and he began to doubt if it was really food because it had a weird sour smell. Obi almost threw up and immediately decided he wasn’t touching that plate again.
“You had better eat something my friend, it might be the last you’ll have in while” a friendly voice beckoned.
Obi turned curiously to see who just spoke to him

. It was a boy who looked like him in age and stature; except Obi was a little taller than him.
“I just can’t, that doesn’t look like food to me…..I will probably throw up immediately it gets in”, Obi replied, “I just want to go home, am tired of this place” He added
“I wish it were that easy my friend, if you ask me I’ll say we’ll probably never leave here” the boy added.
Obi shifted towards him with eagerness in his eyes.
“How long have you been here? Obi inquired.
“Hmmm…it’s a long story. I have been here for the past two weeks. And in this short time I have seen friends separated and sent to places I have never heard in my entire life…that’s why I say we might never leave this place.”
“My name is Christian, I was with my younger sister last two weeks when we were captured in the Ishire forest, we were going to check out our father’s trap if they had gotten any game. Little did we know that would be our last day in the village. Ifeoma, my sister said she was tired  so we decided to rest a bit, then we fell asleep………we woke up in this place.”
Obi felt pity “I’m really sorry Christian. Am really really sorry….by the way, where is your sister Ifeoma? It doesn’t seem like she around here…”
Christian’s eyes watered…..”She was taken out of here three days ago……I watched with a pained heart how she was exchanged for money. I thought I would die, I wept for days till I could weep no more. I don’t think I can ever forget that day”
Obi’s heart crumbled beneath his chest. “Is this what is going to befall us?” he thought.

While they conversed, they heard the door swing open and a man walked in with a whip only meant for animals. Everyone froze in fear, some younger boys began to sob and cry.
“You all have fifteen seconds to assemble outside, it’s time for some of us to part… as usual” he joked.
-------------------
Everyone stood up and in a straight file they assembled outside. Obi tried looking out for his friends but he couldn’t see much as he had not yet accustomed his eyes to the light. Most of the boys shielded their eyes.
After a while, children from other quarters began to troop out in the same order they had come out and in a few minutes, they had all assembled in front of some men who kept on whispering things to themselves and pointing to some of the children. There were murmurings here and there….
Obi spotted Chika faraway looking sorrowful and disorganised; He guessed he hadn’t eaten anything like him. He found his way to him and tapped him on his back.
---------------------
Chika stood motionless in the crowd, thinking about the events of the previous day, wondering where Obi and the others were. As he remembered Ada, fresh tears flowed from his eyes but he quickly wiped them off…he regretted going on this hunting expedition. He remembered that feeling in his gut telling him not to go, but he ignored it…fresh tears flowed freely again…
----------------------
A tap on his back brought him back to the present, wiping his face, he turned to see who touched him and to his surprise, it was Obi……
He hugged him with tears in his eyes, he just couldn’t believe his eyes.
“Obi! Is this really you? I can’t believe my eyes! I thought you were gone”
“Unbelievable! Chika, thank GOD I found you, I thought I lost you guys” Obi exclaimed in happiness.
Then they were flung back to reality by the voice of one of the men at the front making an announcement.
“Obi, do you have any idea where we are?” Chika asked.
Obi’s expression changed immediately “Hmm, Chika, I just heard from someone that they kidnap and traffic children out of the village”, Obi said.
“I just hope they’ve not sold any of us yet” he added

With these last words of Obi, Chika broke down in tears and began to cry…
“Chika, what’s wrong?” Obi queried in shock.
Continuous sobbing made it difficult for Chika to talk, so he just kept on crying.
After he had calm down a little, he turned to Obi, eyes reddened as if he had been crying all day
“Obi, it’s too late. Ada has already been sold, she was taken this morning and sold to a Brazilian”. Chika said in a rather shaky and breaking voice.
Obi stared in absolute horror as Chika’s last sentence rang in his ears…..
“What!!, you mean Ada is gone…….forever?”
“Yes, hard to believe that my own sister would just go like that, I don’t want to believe it yet but the way it is now….who knows.” Chika said sorrowfully.

“Silence!!!” a loud voice echoed through the crowd, bringing everywhere to a standstill. It was the taskmaster.
“The remaining four of you that came here yesterday should come out immediately”, he said on top of his voice…………………..
