Kathia finds out that she has lived other lives before and she made a big mistake that affected other lives which she lived. SHe would need to go back intime to fix that but she is thinking the whole idea is crazy.

KATHIA

I didn't go to work that day . I was just worried about the new turn my life just took. I spent all the day going over each day of my life.

Right from several foster homes and now here. The reason I kept running from different homes was in search of something. I always knew there was more to just sitting down and living an ordinary life. I was looking for something even though I never knew what it was.

You know that feeling you have when you are trying to remember something you have forgotten and all the time your mind is not at rest because you can't remember still...now once you remember that thing..everything seems to makes sense and everything falls into places., that feeling. I didn't have the feeling..nothing makes sense anymore even though everything seems right..it seems so out of place.

All my life, I have been living life accepting every bad thing that happened to me as if somehow I deserved it

. Not having parents have never bothered me, my boyfriend cheating on me never bothered me too. So may awful things that have happened to me I accepted a if they were my portion, as if I had done something to deserve it. But…this, going back in time seemed like a fairy tale, something like the story of the tortoise. It was just so impossible!

"What happened to all the cutlery in the house?"

I looked up at Anna who had come in some minutes ago, she had gone to work and had just returned later in the night. I had spent the day packing everything that would cause me seeing myself..the mirrors, stainless plates..even the cutlery..  truth is, right now, i can't bear to see my reflection right now,I scared the hell out of myself. Seeing myself was like having the weird dreams again….I didn’t want to go through that again.

"I packed them away" I replied dryly, returning to the magazine I was reading just to divert my attention on other things.

Anna said nothing. I noticed she was holding a pack of a food and she needed a spoon but I faked ignorance.

"I guess I will eat with my hand then" She said, more to herself while coming to join me on the bed.

"Did Joseph, ask of me?" I later asked and she nodded.

"Told him you had a menstrual pain"

I chuckled, that worked all the time.

"Did Lucinda call ?" I asked with difficulty.

She shrugged. "There was nothing she needed to call for. Until  you make up your mind"

I kept quiet  biting on my lower lip.

"You know ever since I knew you, you have never been scared of anything until now"  She started, holding my hand, her voice was soothing and very calm. Crystal and cool like a rainy day.

"I have known you to be very capable of doing anything. Also, i have known you can stare and check your reflection in the mirror for 24 hours except if someone interrupts your thoughts. I have seen the look in your eyes anytime you catch yourself in the mirror. I have seen the way you look at yourself in any picture taken and how  you shy away from pictures. You look at yourself as if you could barely recognize yourself as if you are seeing someone else. It scares me as sometimes I think you are probably mad.

I understand that what Lucinda said may have sounded so crazy but trust her and trust me. She is my friend . Someone like her in this part of the country is so rare and she has helped so many of which you know about. The fact that you don’t understand what she means doesn’t mean you cannot trust her. Believe me, if it’s up to me, I will do something about it but everything depends on you. All those dreams of yours are not just dreams. You have faced lots of hardship in your entire life and I know there is a reason to that.”

She squeezed my hand as she continued. "I know you know this answers all the questions you have been asking yourself. I know you are afraid. I am too. But why don't you try it and let's see what happens.?"

I shut my eyes, lips primed.

"Anna, this is just crazy. It’s like you don’t even understand?" I stood up. “This is like a movie, don’t you understand? It’s  not like I am going to Lagos, or Abuja or Ghana…I am going back in time! Time! Have you ever heard of such before?”

Anna smiled and took my hand again. “ I understand it sounds really stupid but can you try to  just believe it might work. What if it works?”

I shook my head, trying to think about it. “How would I even g back in time?”

“Lucinda said you only need to be prepared in your mind to be ready to go , once you are, it wil work one way or the other. We will still talk about that with her but you will need to accept and believe first.

. Can you do that, please?”

I sighed. Hell no!

“Okay, can you do it for me? Aren’t you tired of these nightmares? These phobia of mirrors, the fear of yourself?  If you want to live a good life you need to accept yourself first and you are battling with yourself. You have been doing that for a while. You are afraid of yourself. Don’t you want to know why?”

That actually touched me, I needed answers. I needed to know why everything was just so different with me.

“I want to.”  I said quietly and soberly.

"When I got to this town, I met Lucy at a party, the first thing she said to me was that I would meet a girl who would be my best friend and a sister to me and who would one day require my help in making a decision that may likely involve her future and past"

She smiled as I gasped.

"I never knew it was you..I met you the following day at the restaurant when I came to look for a job"

" You never told me that"

"I never did cos I never knew until now"

"WHat do I do Anna?"

I asked, finally giving up.

"All you need to do, my beautiful friend is go to sleep with a ready mind."

"We don't even know how long I would sleep for"

"She said you need to be back before your next birthday"

"My what? Are you saying, I ..I will sleep for a year?"

'I dunno, she said she has no idea how the time would be counting there,it can be very different. Just know you must come back either before or on  August 21 so you wont be trapped forever"

I sighed. This was just crazier than I thought.

"It is just going to be like a dream. So wake up on time and tell me everything"

I exhaled again...

"Now go bring out those cutlery wherever you may have hidden them and let's eat. before we go to sleep and by the way, I will be sleeping beside you tonight"

"Damn right you are" I said quickly,ignoring her laughter as I went to bring out everything I have hidden because right now..I was ready to face my fear…
