"Oh well", Mrs Abayomi sighed.

"Your child is brilliant", Mrs Abayomi said.
The woman interrupted, "I know". It was so quick, as if she knew what was being asked her. She didn't emphasize much, either as mothers would normally do.
"Is this all planned? She acts like someone sent to represent Ifeoma. Is Ifeoma shielding me away from seeing her mother", she thought to herself.
"If yes, why? What's the problem? She ain't proud of her parents? If yes, that's low for someone so brilliant of her calibre", she muddled with thoughts in her mind.
Mrs Abayomi was tired of the woman's monotonous programmed replies and decided to dismiss her.
"I wanted to get acquainted to you because your daughter is brilliant and I wouldn't want something acting as an obstacle to her to making them proud in WASSCE", Mrs Abayomi said.
"Okay, Madam", the woman replied and made for the door.
"That looked like a robot human", Mrs Abayomi said and continued staring at her files as usual.
The way the woman took a breath out, Mrs Abayomi could ascertain it was all practiced drama.

Ifeoma was under the tree shade waiting for her representative to come out.
She was drenched in sweats as she didn't know what the outcome would be.
She saw the woman coming out of the administration block, she quickly stood to confirm the outcome.
She approached her; "Good afternoon, Ma", Ifeoma said.
"Afternoon", the woman rubbed her forehead.
The woman continued, "oh, it went well and she didn't ask unnecessary questions".
"Thank you", Ifeoma said.
"Thank God", the woman said and left.

After school,
Ifeoma carried her bag and started going home with her friend, Zainab.
"Ifeoma", a voice like Mrs Abayomi called.
"It was her", as she looked back.
"Come to my office right now", Mrs Abayomi said.
What could be the problem again, she asked to herself.

"I think the meeting with Mrs Abayomi would be really long as it is her routine", Zainab said.
"I guess", Ifeoma replied feeling bemused.
"In that case, I will be going home without you", Zainab said.
"No problems", Ifeoma said as they left each other.
"Bye!!!", they both chorused.

At Mrs Abayomi office,
Ifeoma knocked.
"Yes, come in, Miss Ifeoma Okeke", Mrs Abayomi said in a scary voice.
She came in and closed the door behind her.
"Good evening, Ma", Ifeoma said.
"There is nothing really good about the evening, young lady", Mrs Abayomi stood and hit her hand on the table so hard.
Ifeoma was gripped with fear.
Mrs Abayomi continued, "so, you went ahead to bring someone  that's not your mother to represent you? Why? You are ashamed of your mother?".
It dawned on Ifeoma that she had been exposed.
"So, that woman was feeling unnecessarily naive, then because she flopped?", Ifeoma asked rhetorically in her mind as tears ran through her cheeks.
"Why are you shedding crocodile tears? Anyway, I'm just acting . Y'all aren't better actors either", Mrs Abayomi said.
Ifeoma was still in tears.
Mrs Abayomi came closer and asked, "so is she your mother?".
"No!", Ifeoma screamed and removed Mrs Abayomi hands entangled on her shoulders as she went near the wall, rested on it and started sliding downward it crying profusely.

"Tell me what the problem is?", Mrs Abayomi came close and bent down to ask.
"My mother is dead and I have been staying with a guardian who doesn't want me to succeed", she let out and cried.
"I'm so sorry but how did that stop you from inviting her over?", Mrs Abayomi asked.
"She will rather not come, maybe create a scene or stop me from going to school after you tell her how I'm excelling academically", Ifeoma said.
"It's enough", Mrs Abayomi said.
"She doesn't like to see me studying", Ifeoma continued.
Mrs Abayomi used her handkerchief to wipe her tears.
They both stayed in her office till 5:00PM.
She had totally forgotten she was meant to be home early.
"It's late and I think I should be going or I would face her wrath tonight" Ifeoma said.
"Okay, my daughter", Mrs Abayomi replied.
Mrs Abayomi continued, "but remember to take your studies so serious if you want to be yanked off from her yoke".
"Thank you, Ma", Ifeoma replied.
She ran with her heels touching her back.

Bose was waiting at the door with a long cane with Bola

. Ifeoma arrived sweating.
"So you now have a boyfriend you visit and have a romance with after school session is over abi?", they both chorused.
"Abi, she was forming studious", Mama Bola said as she was sweating profusely coming out of the kitchen.
"Reading? In that slum primary school with only teachers and headmaster's office as conducive?", Bose shouted as she flogged her twice.
"Flog her again, because she had to make me enter the kitchen even with my fragility", Mama Bola shouted.
Bola cheered them.
Ifeoma couldn't utter a word as she didn't know what she would use to save herself.
They flogged her mercilessly as she kept rolling on the floor.
"Next time, you will learn that you aren't the one governing yourself", Bose said.
"Yes", Bola replied.
"You know me now", Mama Bola said to Ifeoma as she raised Ifeoma head up.
She continued, "my children are still learner where I am; thank your stars I wasn't the one that dealt with you".
Ifeoma sobbed heavily and had catarrh with mucus covered her nose.
She had to miss school for a whole one week due to severe sickness but that didn't stop her from doing house chores.
