They were glued to the spot. The knock sounded once more. Oga!...Madam!. They heaved a sigh of relief. It was the voice of their housekeeper Amy. Mike picked up Sara immediately and slung her over his shoulder so that it'd look like he was carrying her and she was asleep while Rose went to get the door. She tried her best to keep a smiling face as she opened the door. "Yes?" she asked . "Madam I forgot my cell phone on the kitchen counter, so I came to collect it". "Oh, yes..yes..you can come in". " okay madam". Amy went inside. Mike's angry stare discouraged her from greeting but she mumbled one anyway. If eyes could kill, Amy was sure she would be six ft beneath the ground. She went into the kitchen to collect it. Amy has been working for them for close to four years, since when Sara was born. She was fifty four years old. She comes three times a week to clean and do other things that Rose would want her to do. Everything else was done by Rose including cooking and going to the market.

"Madam, I've collected it. I'll be on my way. "." Okay goodnight, stay safe. ". Rose said as she shut the door close. "So what are we going to do now?" Rose said to Mike in panic. "Let's take her to the hospital quick, grab my car keys"

. "Okay, okay, let's be fast" Rose said in reply.

"Madam please calm down, your daughter would be alright " the nurse at the reception said to Rose as she paced around the hospital corridor in great worry. Rose didn't stop. She wondered how it was so easy for the nurse to tell her that. She hasnt had the experience that was why she was trolling her mouth. Maybe she didn't even have a child of her own. Sara was at the brink of... She didn't know...maybe death. Mere words from a nurse couldn't stop her worry. Sara was her everything. Sara was her solace. Sara was her hope. Sara was her only child after two miscarriages. She remembered her first miscarriage. That was when they were still young couples and Mike still had a soft spot. He had come back home angry that night and she was already asleep. Mike woke her up from her slumber and demanded for sex. She tried to explain to him that she was very tired and exhausted after going to the market and cooking everything they would eat that week. But he wouldn't take any of that. When she continued resisting, he sat on top of her stomach. She cried, she begged him to stop. After that he forcefully had sex with her. She didn't call it rape because he was her husband. She was in pain. When she saw the blood that was coming from in between her legs, she knew it was over. She knew the baby was gone. She went into the bathroom and washed up. The next day she went to the hospital for them to do anything they do to women that have had miscarriages. After everything her husband apologized. He told her that he didn't know what  came over him. She accepted his apology. She couldn't refuse. A year later she put in again. This time it was six months old when it happened. As usual her husband was beating her. She was running. He didn't even have the conscience to consider she was pregnant. He still chased her. What had she done?. They had attended one of his normal business functions that day. They were going around greeting other couples. Looks were deceiving. Rose got to learn this early in her marriage. In this case, it wasn't looks referring to physical beauty but the spectacle people want you to see, what they want the outside world to believe. To the outside world, they were the perfect couple. She followed her husband as they went around greeting his colleagues. Everyone was all smiles and hugs. She wondered what was beneath.  She wondered what was hidden behind those smiles. She asked herself if this happy people she was seeing were really happy underneath all the charade because sincerely  speaking for herself she wasn't. She was in deep thought when she sighted an old classmate. They were pretty close those days in school. She excused herself from her husband and went to greet him. After exchanging pleasantries, she came back.

They got back home that day. Her husband didn't even  let her remove her clothes when started shouting. Saying he was disrespectful. Asking how a married woman would leave her husband and go to meet another man. She was trying to explain to him that he was only an old classmate but he wouldn't listen. He started to ask her if he was one of her numerous boyfriends. She became pissed and told him that he was just jealous and insecure. Immediately she made that statement, it sparked up a burning fury in him. He pounced on her. Before he could reach her, she started running and begging him that she would never attempt such again. He didn't even respond. He continued chasing her. She ran till she reached the top of the stairs. Her leg slipped and she rolled down. She lost the baby. After carrying the baby for six months she lost it. This time around her husband didn't even feel remorse. He told her that it would act as a lesson. She started to as herself when her marriage became this messy.

"Madam!... Madam"!..."Yes... Yes" she responded as she was revived from her deep thought. The doctor had come to give them the situation of the daughters' condition.
