Regret - Episode 8

 

"Mummy, why are you shouting? ", Rose turned her back only to see Sara looking at her with a surprised expression.                                        

   "Oh my God", "Sara where did you go to?," I almost had a heart attack", "I looked everywhere for you but I couldn't find you", "where have you been? ", Rose asked all at once.               

 "Mummy, I've been in the staff room, our class teacher asked me to help her with some work. "Oh Lord, thank you, I thought something bad had happened to you ", " I wouldn't forgive myself ".                                                       

"Mummy, nothing happened, I'm here" .          

Rose sighed in relief. She couldn't imagine any bad thing happening to her daughter. She looked back at the security guard. "I'm so sorry for the embarrassment I caused you" she said apologetically.                                             "No problem madam, I understand"

 " Thank you" Rose said.                                      

She held Sara very protectively as they walked back to the car. 

She drove to the exact location the kidnappers gave her. It was a very deserted place. She stepped out of her car and put on her sunglasses. "At least it did well to disguise her face" she thought. She examined her surroundings as she entered the building. It was an old bungalow, she went inside, she met one of the kidnappers at the entrance. He lead her to where they kept their victim. She entered the room. The little girl was blindfolded and tied to a chair. She was crying out loud for her mummy. "Please stuff that girls' mouth with something, she is making a hell of a noise". "Yes madam" they said as they obeyed her orders. "Wait...wait... Who is this?, who the hell did you kidnap? She said as she squinted her eye to get a better look at the girl. 

"What do you mean you didn't see her? ", "someone you dropped off at school this morning ,please don't give me that trash. This is four thirty pm, and you're just coming back now telling me that you didn't pick Ruby up from school.                                                                

  "Ma, I went to her school to pick her but she was nowhere to be found, I inquired her whereabouts from her friends and they all said she told them that her mother had come to pick her up. I knew it wouldn't be possible that you would leave work to go pick her up because I know your shift today ends by four pm, and you would have at least informed me before doing it. Madam I swear I did everything I could to look for her. I even asked the gateman to help me, we didn't see her. I stayed in the school till around four pm waiting for her, with the hope that she would surface but it was all to no avail" the driver said in defense.   "I think you should keep that bull crap story to yourself, let's get to the school right away.       Get the car keys fast" Mrs Alade said in panic. They reached the school and luckily for them, the headmistress was still around. They went to her office and knocked.                                          

 "Yes, you can come in" she answered.              

"Oh Mrs Alade, to what do I owe the honor of your visit? " the headmistress said while standing up. "Good evening headmistress Helen" Mrs Alade said. " Good evening to you to, Oh you may have your seats" the headmistress said. The office was a typical headmistresses' office. With awards won by the school hanging on the shelf close to the headmistresses' table. Pictures of great alumni of the school hanging on the wall. There were neatly arranged books stacked on her desk. Her computer was directly in front of her. Mrs Alade had been to the office a few times but not for once because she was in a situation like this.                                                                  

"So how have you been Mrs Alade ", the headmistress asked.                                 "I'm fine personally but I'm not here for small talk, let me go straight to the point. My daughter is missing " .                                                        

"Mrs, what do you say?, we have a good security system and it would be almost impossible that your daughter is missing ".                                  

"So what do you call coming to pick her up from school and meeting her absence, and not seeing her till now? ".                                                        

"I'm sorry but what if maybe, just maybe she followed one of her classmates home?". "No...no.. Ruby wouldn't do that, she would tell me before hand if she's going anywhere, she has never done it and I don't think she would start now".                                                                  

 "Okay, first things first, I think before we head to the police station, let's call her classmates' parents and confirm.                                          

"Okay let's do it.Headmistress Helen brought out her phone book and texted all the parents of children in Rubys' class. Meanwhile Mrs Alade wanted to go to the police as soon as possible. "Madam, I think you have to be patient, we would get replies soon and  wherever your daughter is, I believe no harm has come to her. Trust me, she would be fine", "Wait, I've gotten a reply from one parent. Headmistress Helen said as her phone beeped. Reply was negative, so as was all the replies that followed. Then they headed to the police station to report the case.
