Brad walked around the living room nervously, his hands shoved in the pocket.

Today was gonna be the day he was gonna officially ask his Reginah to be his girlfriend. He had dated her for a a while now and it felt right to make it official.

How was he going to tell her that he loved her so much not only through words but actions??? He was among the top romantic guys in the world, but when it came to proposing to his girl he was clueless.

Being in his last academic semester,  it was a high time he looked for a girl he would make his wife.  Thinking about Reginah being his wife and having babies looking like the both of them made his heart melt down skipping a beat.

Brad heard a knock on the door, adjusting his sleeves he walked nervously on the door. Shit, it was the delivery man. It had slipped his mind that he had ordered taco beef wraps. Feeling disappointed he took the box, tipped him and slammed the door behind him with his foot.

Did he have time to cook??  f-ck it. He was too nervous to even hold a knife. It was long since he wore a tuxedo, he preferred fitting jeans or sweatpants. Rarely Khaki shorts. Today he wanted to look formal for the proposal.

The food on the dining table was neatly set, the bunch of red roses he was to give to her were lying lazily on the table. The ring that he was to give her was on the back side pocket of his trouser. Everything was in check, she would like it, no she would love it. She would be marvelled.
He had to  propose before she was taken away from him.

Seeing her earlier gave him the courage he needed to make her his. With her he  feel right, he feel at home. She was his diamond, the world was rough but with her it never affected him.

For once in his life, his breath was taken away by a girl he met two months ago. But it felt he had  known forever. He could feel happiness soak into his bones by the idea that in some few hours she would be officially his girl.

Brad retreated from his thoughts when he heard a knock. Who would it be??? Checking at his  watch it was ten past three. It must be her, she was there.

He cleared his throat,  smelt his breath, raked his fingers through his hair twice, final check on himself then  walked towards the door.

He opened the door, on seeing her he felt an explosion inside. A burst of love. They locked eyes for a while before letting her in. He didn't know whether to shake her hand or hug her, he was so confused his palms so damn sweaty.

"Hey, am glad you came," He countered rubbing his palms. Reginah let out a lopsided smile before averting her eyes to the floor.
"Here, I got you these." Brad belted handing roses to her.
"I hate roses," She pondered not even looking at them.

Was she mad?? Brad wished  he had gotten her lilies or lavenders. He was screwing it even before proposal.

"I am so sorry, Lets have somethi...." Reginah butts in wearing a stony expression," I wanna say something so fast and get the f-ck out of here."

The way she spoke made a slash on his heart. He slowly walked towards her and cupped her face,"Tell me Love, what's wrong??"
She rolled her eyes, dropped his hands off her face and pushed him away," I wanna quit my job and stay away from you." She whispered her gaze on the floor.
Brad lets out a small laughter not sure he heard her right.
"Right now, I don't know if I want to kiss you, or shove you off a bridge."
"Can I pick?" He quickly pulled her to him, cupping her face and kissing her roughly like it was our last kiss. He wanted her to feel how much she meant to him.

Reginah  bit his bottom lip forcing him to pull back.  In a disgusted look she wiped the kiss from her lip with the back of her hand," I can't love you, I love someone else. I don't want to have anything to do with you, I can't stand you. You think you are different from the one night stand guys but the issue is that you are still in denial." She yelled  clasping her hands over her head.

Her words made pain sheet through Brad with a terrible intensity. Throughout his entire life, he never felt the kind of pain he did when he saw the way she looked at him.

He wanted to show her the ring but  held back. His hand didn't wanna get to his back pocket. It just couldn't.

"You are lying, I know you love me." Brad lamented biting his bottom lip not to cry. The more he walked towards her, the more she moved back.

"I love you, don't do this." Brad pleaded clasping my hands together.
"Love is never forced Brad." She stated arms crossed on her chest.
"You always told me you loved me, I could see it In your eyes. If I have wronged you, I am sorry." Brad sobbed  in confusion of what was happening.

"I don't love you and never will." She snapped mindlessly.

Brad started to hopelessly mourn the loss of a person who was still alive. What broke him the most, was the need to be loved by her. All he was now is sadness.

He couldn't take it anymore,"I did this for you,"  pointing at the dining table and the roses that were now on the floor," I wanted to propose to you. I wanted you be officially my girlfriend. What did I get??? Insults. Is this what I get for loving you." He snarled more than he spoke.

Letting out a stifled yell, he hit the wall with the roses as the pieces scattered around her. He screamed hands on his ears, He punched the wall so hard that his knuckles begun to bleed.

He couldn't believe it,  he wanted to die.

Anger hot as lava boiled deep in his system. She was now widened with shock at his behaviour, she made him feel that way like an enraged panther.

She should've given him something to hold onto like a beautiful lie. For a moment he thought she would embrace him and laugh saying," Happy fool's day baby, I got you." But her eyes showed she wasn't messing around.

Brad walked towards her but stood few inches away from her,"Why?" He asked bitterness and sadness in his mouth like a bile.

"I am sorry, I had too. I had no choice. Please forgive me.." Her voice shaking, tears bursting forth like a dam, spilling down her face.
"There is always a choice baby.."
"But in this situation, there isn't.."

"I love you so much baby, I can't imagine my life without you...you are the fire in me. Please don't do this." He confessed his eyes glossy with tears.

"But I don't love you, I never did." Reginah replied cupping his face unable to look into his eyes.

Brad went on his knees, "Baby if I have offended you please forgive me. But don't hurt me like this. Don't leave me.." He cried holding onto her legs.

Reginah was tempted  to comfort him but all she did was push him away.
Brad stood up and begun walking towards the door. His eyes dancing around Reginah.

He paused  and Reginah walked towards him as  they lock their eyes. That was the perfect distance for a kiss, he wanted to kiss her so bad but not like this. Looking at her he could hold onto his tears.

"Reginah you taught me to love but today you have made know what pain feels like.."
"It's for the best Brad.."

His head  was now pounding and cracked lips were coated with a layer of dehydrated saliva. Inside he was destroyed with her words. He stormed out slamming the door behind him.. She can have the house, he didn't want it.  He couldn't  believe she was gone.  It ended before it begun.
