Lydia's heart - Episode 4

 

Lydia slowly got up from the bed, afraid that with one wrong move her baby will disappear. She has suffered so much to loose her baby now; this is her ninth month expecting her precious baby.

She held her nightstand and slowly eases her legs in the flip flop that Ritsy bought for her because of her constant swollen legs.

“These will ease the pains” she assured and it never disappointed her.

On her way to the kitchen she diverted to the parlor to do her normal routine of watching small children going to school, she half wised she will give birth to a girl that will be so cute.

. She hoped to decorate her everyday and shower her with excess love that she will never feel the absence of a father in her life.

She smiled as she saw her favorite girl; she always cries that her mother should carry her as she carries her younger brother . The little girl was jealous of the kid brother on the back of the mother; the prepared mother brought out a biscuit, bent down and pacified the little girl. She collected the biscuit happily, her cries forgotten and jumped playfully all the way to school, she smiled at the little way of making the child laugh again.

Lydia made a mental note to always have biscuit to pacify her little ward, she yawned so hard and hungry tears prickled down her eyes; the little one in her stomach gave her a slight kick reminding her that she has not taken her breakfast.

She sighed sadly that her other pupil was yet to walk by but she pats her stomach and left for the kitchen.

A delicious smell of fried egg wafts into her nose as she draws nearer to the kitchen; she increased her pace wondering who would be in her kitchen

“Good morning” Cindy greets on noticing her presence, busy whisking the egg

“at last you decided to wake up, have been here since 6:00; Ritsy and Nelly sent me here to stay with you while they cover the presentation” she raps up and pour the egg inside the frying pan

Lydia entered into the kitchen and peered into the pot “Good morning, but how did you get in my apartment”

Cindy surprised at her question flaunts a bunch of keys to her face “Hello, I have your spare key or does your baby make you forget that too” she says with a wink

Lydia’s face brightened on remembering that and hits her forehead slightly “Oh, hit me; I totally forgot, thanks for coming over”

Cindy nods and turned off the gas “No problem”
“I prepared you a light food, Nelly says its best for you cus you are more than fat already” Cindy muttered and waits for some seconds before completing her words “I cooked noodles, just the way you like it; with enough onions and egg”

Lydia frowned at being referred to as more than fat but how could she reject the steamy plate of noodles in front of her with a large portion of egg sitting comfortably on it

. “I am not eating” she says and folds her hands

Cindy knowing the game she is playing at, packs the plate “ok then, I will pour it away”

Her stomach growled again and she snatched the food from Cindy “I hate wasting food”

Cindy smiled and sets the food “you are always welcome”

Lydia just muffled a smile and pounced on the food. Cindy sat on the long stool in the kitchen drinking water as she smiles with glee at the rate in which Lydia was eating the food. At a time Lydia paused eating and points at the bowl filled with fresh tomatoes.

“Those looks shiny, can I get some please” she asks Cindy with pleading eyes

Cindy amused at the strange request, washed two seeds of tomatoes and cuts them. “I got them to cook jollof rice in the afternoon buh you can have them”

Lydia smiled gratefully and continued eating her meal “thank you” she muttered

Cindy acknowledged the greeting and sat down “the tomatoes looks fresh but not for eating it raw with noodles” she shrugged “well what do I know about pregnancy craving as Ritsy and Nelly calls it”

“Uuhhhh” Lydia belched loudly after eating, looked up and saw Cindy peering at her. She dropped the spoon she was holding and shifts uncomfortably

“did I do anything wrong” she asks

“no, not at all” she replies and showed Lydia a picture on her phone

“just laughing at this image eating position”

Lydia scurried over to look at the picture but to her amazement she saw the picture of herself struggling to lick clean the plate with her tongue. Instead of complaining the funny expression on her face in the photo made her start laughing loud. Cindy looked strangely at her to know if something is amusing her.

Suddenly she stopped and looked at Cindy “I think I just peed on my pants”

Cindy blinked her eyes “oh come on, is that natural too for pregnant women”

Lydia looked afraid “I don’t know, call Ritsy or Nelly lets know”

Cindy hurriedly scrolled her phone and dialed Ritsy number, she picked at the second ring

“Hello Cindy, you know we are in the middle of our presentation, have you forgotten that” Ritsy murmured

“yes I know but….” She glanced at the terrified Lydia “Lydia said she just peed on her pants, is that normal”

There was a pause and Nelly picked up the phone “OMG, this is her ninth month; take her to the hospital immediately. She is in labour and don’t forget her baby pack, we are on our way”

Cindy dropped the phone immediately, looked at Lydia and ran upstairs to her room; Lydia felt a sharp pain in her stomach and gave out a loud cry

Cindy rushed down immediately with the already packed bags; she helped Lydia stand up and in a second Lydia bite her ears sharply in pain

Cindy wants to snap back in anger but stops at the look on Lydia’s face

“I think the baby is coming” she shouts
