Lydia sat on the sofa she found comfortable since she gave birth admiring the little baby that gave her sleepless night last night sleeping comfortably and peacefully in the day. She felt the urge of pinching or slapping the baby to wake her up, they should be awake together now.

She stretched her hands to give her a little pinch and the baby smiled and opened her small eyes but quickly shut it back, she stopped and admired the baby; she is okay that the baby resembles her in everything but what the hell was she thinking of when she carried the fathers dreamy eyes.

The first thing that attracted her to him, whenever they are in deep discussion and she focuses his attention only on him, those eyes always makes her feel like melting under his gaze.

Instead of pinching her, she just pats her small chin and adjusted her cap.

“I hope you will eat this one” Cindy announces her presence setting the food down and cleaned the small heat on her forehead with the back of her hand. “Ritsy says this is very good for a nursing mother”

She finished setting and relaxed herself on the nearest settee and heaved a sigh “Omugwo is not an easy taskooo, I hope Ritsy and Nelly are on their way already”

Lydia smiled at her friend, Cindy acts like she never cares but when you need her she will always stick with you till you are okay but disappears as quickly as possible as if she was not your fairy a while ago.

Lydia opened the plate of peppery yam filled with hot liquid; she inhaled it and smiled “you are a good cook Cindy, thank you very much”

“you are welcome, but I am only doing that for the cute baby not you” Cindy replies and left to answer the door bell

Lydia laughs and start eating the hot peppery liquid, the liquid burned through her throat and calmed her nerves, she settles to finish the food.

“look who we have here, Ritsy; Nelly” Cindy shouts relieved to see them as she opens the door for her friends and their children.

The friends exchanged hugs while the children took no notice of the older ones and scurry off to the baby’s side.

The friendship of the four girls brought heir respective families together including their husbands and the five kids are always together even in their school . Nobody could guess they were not from the same parents  except for their different surnames.

“Aunty Can I carry her” Jane the oldest among them squirms

“Not yet Sweetie, don’t worry she will soon join you at school” Lydia replies stroking the little girl

“Really, she will come to our school” Uju the younger to Jane squirms

“Of course baby girl, all of you will definitely go to the same school” Ritsy assures the children

The five kids jumped happily and gather round the baby trying to pacify her when their shouts woke her up.

Lydia lifts the baby and starts breastfeeding her.

“wow, our girl is now a mother” Nelly starts

“and a responsible one too” Ritsy adds

Lydia just laughed and laid the now sleeping baby to continue her sleep, the kids gather round again watching her sleep.

The girl’s gist about things that interests them including the recent contract which is due very soon.

The door bell rings and they exchanged glances.

Cindy cringed in fear, “are you expecting anybody” Nelly asks as she walks to the door

“I invited your mother” Cindy says quietly

“what” Lydia shouts

“I have to, you cannot deny the little baby the joy of having a grand mother and your mother the joy of having a grandchild  and being a grand mother” Cindy mumbles defensively

“she should have thought of that when she left me alone all through my pregnancy, even in my labour room I wished she was the one holding my hands all through my pains but she was never there and ……….” Her voice trail off as emotions clouds her and she starts crying

Ritsy engulfed her in a hug “your baby is almost five months now, you need to allow them meet each other, allow her feel the love of a grand mother; I bet your mother is repentant now” she peered at Cindy “you did the right thing girl and Lydia clean those tears, I wouldn’t want  your mother to think that we don’t do our job very well” she signaled Nelly to open the door as Lydia quickly cleaned her eyes very well and expects to meet her mother.

Nelly opened the door and Mrs

. Blessing came in carrying heavy bags. It’s obvious she prepared her coming. The room fell silent as mother and daughter gave themselves a hostile look. It lingered a little and their stare melts as they  start crying and rushed to hug each other.

The girls and kids stayed clear out of the way to their little reunion

“have really missed you mom”

“me too; sorry for not listening to your own side of the story and just imagining things” she replied stroking her daughter

“where is my grand child” she asks

Cindy points to the baby that just watched the scene without crying.

“she looks so beautiful just like you” she exclaims as she carries the baby who did nothing but smile at the old lady carrying her

“what is her name” she asks

The girls kept quiet; Lydia decided to speak “I have not named her yet, was waiting for you to name her; that was my fantasy, you naming my kids”

Nelly, Ritsy and Cindy nods in agreement.

Mrs. Blessing got emotional at that, peered at the baby and hesitated “her name will be Lydia” she announces

“Lydia” they ask at once

“yes Lydia, she looks a lot like my daughter when she was young” she pause “except those eyes; maybe she got that from the man that stole my daughters heart”

They just laughed and the atmosphere in the room became less tense.

Everybody settles down as Mrs. Blessing starts bringing out the numerous things she came with; in fact she closed both her boutique for the baby’s clothing and market for food stuffs.

Little Lydia now awake starts responding to the kids surrounding her while the adults discuss

“I am coming, I need to prepare you a proper launch; you will like it” Mrs. Blessing says and dash off to locate the kitchen warding off the numerous shouts for her to rest

She popped her head out from the kitchen “that’s the least I can do for being absent al this while”
