Lydia's heart - Episode 10

 

Okike and his wife walked into the palace accompanied by his guards. He sat down on his throne, his wife sat beside him; the two guards stood at his two sides

He motioned the elders that stood up when he entered to sit down; the elders cleared their throats waiting for whom to speak up.

Uju tensed up of what they are going to say whispered to her husband and he stands up

“since you all are keeping quiet; I think we have to retire, we are very tired from our long journey” he paused and looked at his wife “Lolo we have to go”

Uju stands up immediately to leave with his husband but one of the elders stood up immediately “Igwe (king) you don’t have to be in a hurry; we have a crucial matter at hand” he stops and watches them sit back; he cleared his throat and began

“Igwe(king) it is twelve months until full moon and the crown prince have not started his ritual; so we the elders are worried about the future of our community” he bows “Igwe(king) we have laid our matter” and sat down

Okike knew what their decision will be if he ever utters a word that he knows nothing of his son now; he finally speaks up “as you can see, me and my wife are coming back from a journey and we need to rest; we will continue this discussion later in the day” he said this to avoid saying what he will regret later. His wife followed him immediately and they left to his wing.

The elders murmurs angrily especially the one that will take over should anything happen to the crown prince

. They started leaving one by one when they came to terms that the Igwe is never coming out.

“my Lord did you see it in their eyes; they are hungry to take this position from you” Uju says afraid

“I know; this bitterness started from when I refused them taking what belongs to the widows; now they want to get rid of me” he says pacing up and down

“we need to visit another sorcerer that will explain things for us more; for now woman return to your wing we will decide later”

“yes my Lord” Uju answers and left. She broke down to tears as she entered her room; she felt childless

She stared at the enlarged picture of her son and brings it down; she clutches it to her chest “Vicky my son; why have you done this to me, your father and I needs you, our community needs you, your fathers company awaits you. You have so many responsibilities, why disappear” she laments and held the picture to her chest; she stayed like that until she slept.

Okike refused to sleep as he turns on his bed; he knows his son. He can never run from his responsibilities not when they refused his method he wants to get married.

He remembered when he visited the place he claims he works in and saw his only son working as a bartender. That never went down well with him, what will happen if someone that knows him meets his son working in a bar.

Not minding the time, hoping that as a bar they will still be open; he called his personal driver and soon they are on their way to the bar.

The driver must have been surprised of the late work but kept his surprise to himself as he drove his mater dutifully.

He pulled to a stop in front of the club; Okike stepped out and walked briskly inside the club.

He pushed open the door but met the familiar club empty with  few customers at different tables drinking.

He requested to meet the manager, the manager a lanky looking man who was obviously a drunkard never gave a tangible answer to all his questions. Disappointed he left for his car.

On their way he kept pondering on his discussion with the manager and things start falling in place

. His son was the real manager of the club but decided to work at the bar to hide his identity.

Now his absence have made the club to swindle down the drains, his face brightened “there was a girl he met that day that introduced herself as Vicky’s girlfriend once she knew who he was; her smile and charisma showed she will make a good queen and a wife. Yes, he have to get the girls number, if she really was his girlfriend then she must know of his whereabouts”

“What is that her name” he scratches his hair

“yes, it’s Stacy” his face beamed; he has always been good at memorizing names.

“Take me back to the club; I have something to do there”

“Yes your highness” the driver answered and reversed the car
