Love ~ Hate Relationship - Episode 16

 

The shriek sends me out of the bed I'm just sitting on and into the room opposite mine.. 

I knock on the door. 

"Sybil? Open this door" I say, using her first name. 

No response from inside and my heart gives a pang. 

"Sybil!" I shout, I hear the footsteps of Marie and Rico-another bodyguard - running up the stairs and I know they've been attracted by my shout. 

I see my mistake immediately, I should have told her not lock the door, she shouldn't have locked the door dammit. 

Another shriek ensues again and I step back from the door before bursting it open with my shoulder. 

"What happened?" I ask, she's wrapped in a towel and standing in the middle of the room, her hair wet. 

My eyes leaves her to take the room in, trying to ascertain the threat. 

Marie and Rico enter, guns out. 

When I see no immediate threat I look to her to ascertain the cause of the shout, she's looking at me in betrayal. 

"What happened?" I ask. 

"There. Was . No. Hot. Water.!" 

The f*ck? 

"There was no hot water! You. Expected, me! To bath with no hot water?!" She screams. 

"Well, ain't she a diva?" Marie asks Rick Sarcastically before exiting the room, Risk laughs, following her. 

"They are not taking this seriously, why aren't they taking this seriously? I could have died of hypothermia! I could have frozen up and died! Do you know how much trouble you would have been in? Do you know..." 

"You wouldn't have died from using cold water princess" I interrupt, exasperated and not a little pissed. 

I thought something was killing her in here, to find out she screamed like that just because of cold water?

I am so angry I'm seeing black. 

It's good to see she hasn't changed a single bit. 

"You don't know that, you don't know that" She says, seeming to have a serious problem with the cold water. 

"I forgot to switch on the heater, it always gets switched off when the house is not in use" I say, moving past her to switch on the he heater. 

She watches me exit the bathroom, suddenly looking very embarrassed about something. 

"Bath and come downstairs" I say and she nods. 

I exit the room to see Marie and Rico laughing over something. 

"That's enough" I say and they are immediately at attention. 

I look to Marie, In no way pretending not to remember what we talked about hours ago.

"Where you guys able to stock the fridge?" I ask, I'm not usually this sloppy when doing a job, but since this one was impromptu and all... 

"There was some sort of blockade on the road, the police says we will have to wait for an hour, we decided to come back and make do with what we have for the time being."Rico says and I nod. 

" Get freshened up, I'm going to do same, come downstairs for dinner and debriefing"i say and they nod. 

I usually try not to be a hard boss. 

When I'm done I make my way back down the stairs, entering the kitchen to see Marie and Rico slurping on..

. Noodles? 

Footsteps sounds behind me and I turn. 

Hest flooding my body to see her in my clothes. 

I feel Marie's eyes on me but I don't look at her, I was very clear that we were done.. 

Fraternising between coworkers is allowed in my company, that's the reason I did what I did that night long ago when I was weak. 

I refused to transfer her to another state because she seemed to be mature about it, but the moment I get the feeling that what ever happened between us then is going to become a problem, I'm going to assign her on something else. 

"What's for dinner?" Her voice asks, strangely subdued. 

"Ramen" Rick says, grinning and handing her chopsticks. 

Sybil looks at it and then at me and then back to the chopsticks. 

"You've got to be kidding me" She says. 

"We will get you filet mignon as soon as day breaks, we promise" Marie says snidely and I throw her a look. 

"I'm not eating noodles, I will become bloated by tomorrow". 

"Princess, there's no one out here who is going to see you bloated" I say, nodding to a chair. 

She looks at it then at me before grudgingly taking the seat. 

"I'm allergic to processed food, please get steak tomorrow" She says, grabbing the chopsticks from Rico who grins widely and taking a slurp of noodles. 

How she makes slurping noodles look sophisticated is beyond my simple human understanding. 

When she's into the meal I take a seat, watching her. 

She lifts her head to look at me before frowning. 

"Aren't you eating?" She asks. 

"Boss prefers to eat alone" Rico says and she frowns at that. 

Seeming to let it go she turns to her food. 

"You can't lock your doors from now on" I say to her and she pauses. 

"Why?" 

"Security reasons, locked doors means I don't have access to you, which I need at all times" I say and she nods. 

"It's not as if I can lock it anyway, you broke the lock" She says and I nod.. 

"You mustn't make any calls for a while, or log into your social media accounts, I will believe you are matured enough to understand that it's risky for your assailant to know your whereabouts" I say and she nods. 

"You can't purchase anything with your credit card, we will assume he's got eyes on your transactions too" I say and she nods. 

"Finally, you must not attempt escape, I've got eyes around the house which will make it impossible but I would prefer not to have to pursue you" I say and she nods. 

I nod back. 

"Is that all?" She asks. 

"Yes, for now". 

"Good, Because I have one question"

I lift a brow. 

"Can I have another serving of this? It's really good" She says and my eyes flicks to her empty plates. 

I suddenly remember her childlike behaviours and I resist the urge to grin. 

Well, at least she's still got some redeeming qualities. 

Rico approaches with the pot of ramen and Sybil watches it, her lower lip between her teeth. 

Yes. Some things haven't changed..
