“Is everything all set?” Peter asked, facing no one in particular.

“Yeah” the planners said, mumbling to themselves.
He walks over to two ladies.

“I don’t like the placement of this” he said “Turn it around”

“Okay sir” the ladies say and do as they are told

“I’m the master wedding planner” Peter says, wiping imaginary sweat from his forehead.

“Not as good as I, mister” Paul said from behind him.

“I’m the best” a voice says and they all turn to the direction of the voice.

“Why is she not at home?” Peter whispered to Paul.

“How do you expect me to know?” Paul whispered back

“Both of you, come to mama!” the person shouted and they sluggishly moved.

  TESSIE

Those two boys probably thought I wouldn’t be here. I am here now, they should go and sleep.

They sluggishly walk to me and I smirk at them.

“Hmm, looking at this,” I walk around, inspecting “I think you’ve done a fair job”
They opened their mouths in protest and I shake my head.

“For that, celebrate yourselves” I said
They both knock themselves on the head.

“Good” I said

“Babe” a vice shouts exasperatedly from behind and I turn to see Ray, carrying my handbag.

“You almost practically jumped out of the car!” he shouted in frustration.

“But I didn’t” I said, tears threatening to spill.

“No, you didn’t” he said, pulling me in for a hug.

“Be mindful of your tummy” he said into my ear.

“Okay” I replied.
From the corner of my eye, I see Paul whispering to Peter and Peter shaking his head.

“Both of you, come here” I said at the top of my lungs and they run.

I try to run after them.

“Be careful o, sweetheart, be careful!” I hear Ray shout behind me.

  SHERIFAT

“How was work today” I asked

“It was fine o, very very fine”

“What happened?”

“I left work early today because boss didn’t really have many places to go.” He replied
“Then, the motorcycle drivers came early and they had sales”

“Does the new recruit have helmets already?” I ask, cringing a bit.

“He got them yesterday . I didn’t allow him to drive before then o”

“Better” I said

“Something happened today o” I added

“What is that?” he asked, turning the steering wheel.

“A woman came to my shop today and on sighting me, shouted ‘Iya Risi’”

“Ahah” he said in astonishment “who could that be?”

“That was what I thought too” I said “it turned out to be Iya Bisi”

“Ooohh” he said “long time o”

“Abi, she said she saw me at the centre last week” I said “I was astonished to hear that she is now doing NCE too o.”

“Things are changing” he replied “I wouldn’t dare to think that some years ago”

“Wait o” I said “this your English is getting better”

“That is the effect of my boss on me’ he answered, grinning from ear to ear

“Abeg face road o” I said “Anyway, I told her not to call me Iya Risi o

. She should either call me Sherifat or Mummy Teniola or Mummy Arinola, abi?”

“Yeah, that’s good” he replied “or Aya Kunle”

“Ttoor, omo Iya Alagolo nko?” I asked and everyone burst into laughter.

“We are here already” Teniola shouted from the back seat of the car.

“They are so ecstatic” Kunle said with a smile
Eheh! Well, ecs-whatever, must be a good word.
I opened my purse and took out my small jotter. I gave it to Teniola.

“Oya quickly write down the spelling for me” I told her.
She did and gave it back to me.

  E C S T A T I C

I put the note back into my bag. I will check the meaning of the word later.

HOPE THE IYA RISI CONFUSION HAS BEEN CLEARED. RISI IS ONE OF THE NAMES GIVEN TO THE FIRSTBORN, TENIOLA. ARE WE GOOD NOW?
