Incomplete - Episode 1

 

Britni and Christian giggled as they peeped at their parents brushing their teeth; they smiled at each other and ran through the long passage of their huge duplex, they climbed the small steps and lunged inside their parents’ bedroom to continue their mischievous act. 

They entered the large bedroom scanning the room thinking of something to do. Britni ran to the wardrobe looked at it and smiled mischievously

“Let’s change their ID” Britni suggested

“Okay” Christian agreed, He ran to their Mom’s handbag and brought out her small pinky purse

Britni checked their Dad pocket and found his wallet, “Bring Mom’s ID lets exchange them” Christian rushed to her side and gave her the card . They exchanged the ID and muffled a small laugh

“Now they must listen to us” They turned immediately they heard their parents footstep each trying to hid what they were holding

“Good morning, Mom”

“Good morning, Dad” they chorused at the same time and scampered out of the room, running and laughing

Nora looked at her kids and just nod at their greetings, Max nod too and went to the wardrobe to pick out his work cloth

“Did you see the way the toothbrush looked so small in Dad’s hand” Christian asked smiling, showing his small milk teeth with the front one threatening to fall out any moment

“Yea, I love the idea of swapping their toothbrush and we will continue doing that until they change our school bag. They are using identical toothbrush yet they don’t want to listen to our plea” Britni replied 

They heard a noise coming from upstairs, turned and gave themselves thumbs up before scurrying to hid in their room

Nora and Max came out of their room fully prepared for work but surprised not to see their kids at their usual spot where they sit to wait for them to take them to school

Nora walked to their door to open it but it was firmly locked

“Christian” Nora called out

“Britni” Max reluctantly called 

“It’s time for school”

Britni and Christian looked at themselves and remained quiet 

“We don’t want to go to school” they chorused under the chair where they hid

Nora looked at Max urging him to ask of the problem

“You are the mother, do your job, besides it’s your turn to take them to school” Max muffled under his breath and left

Britni crawled to the door and peeped at the key hole when she heard her parents arguing

“Are they arguing again” Christian asked

“Not yet” Britni answered and shifted her gaze back to the keyhole

Nora bent to the door and knocked on it

“Sweet heart, please just come out, am late for work” Nora begged and knocked again

Britni made to open the door when she saw her Dad coming with fury and range clearly written on his face

“Did you take my ID so that I will not be able to go out of the house” Max asked with range

Nora looked at him surprised “why will I take your ID” Britni looked at her hand and found out that she was still holding their ID 

“opps, I still have the ID; I thought I placed it inside their pocket” she scurried down from the stool where she was standing and opened the door 

The wail of their mother made her to open the door quickly; their Dad was pouncing on the Mom accusing her of hiding the ID so she could monitor his movement

Britni clutched the ID tightly “Mom and Dad always quarrel, this will just be part of it” Britni thought and hid the ID behind her back

Christian ran out of his hiding place when he heard the constant scream of the mother

. Immediately he ran outside, Nora stood up dragged Britni and ran out of the house; the wail of the younger brother and Max yell called them back but Nora was determined to flee before thinking of anything else

Bea woke up when she felt the slight touch on her shoulder; she blinked her eyes to adjust to the rays of light that rushed into her eyes. She looked around wondering where she is, on seeing the big portrait of her when she was small drawn by her Dad on her 2nd birthday made her realize she is still in the office

“Ma, I am ready to leave” Tristy her secretary said impatiently with stress written all over her face. She has waited for more four hours after waiting for her boss who was sleeping comfortably in her office

She summoned courage when her phone rang for the up tenth time; her boyfriend whom she is supposed to spend the night called to know what was holding her and here she is guiding her boss. She decided to take the bull by the horn by waking her up. 

She shifted her weight uncomfortably from one leg to another ready to receive any insult when she tapped her

Bea stretched herself, picked her phone and sighed when she saw 25 missed calls; she slid the phone open “ken”. “Why will Ken call me this much” She wondered “Oh Shit, I missed the date” Bea shouted when she looked at her time and noticed she is 4 hours behind time

Bea started gathering her things to leave when she remembered that someone actually said something before.

“you can go, am fine” she said dismissing her secretary

She rushed down immediately and noticed how silent and dark everywhere is

“Damm that headache” 

Outside the gate Tristy was standing waiting for a cab, she felt a jab for wasting her time.

She honked her car and waved at her to come in; Tristy hesitated before rushing in cus there is no way she could get a cab by that time

“Thank you mah” 

Bea just smiled, nod her head and faced the wheel
