Imara's pov

I looked at my uncle's car as it drove away. Tears rolling down my eyes while a number of questions ran in my head. How will I live alone without them? Why can't the world seem  to understand and be fair to people like me? What did I do so wrong? I didn't know what to do and I knelt down in the compound . A million thoughts were running in my head as I had a tap on my shoulder.

What's wrong my child? Asked mama Namuli .  She was my mom's best friend. She wore a Brown floral gomesi ( traditional wear for baganda ladies) . She is in her early fifties, chocolate in color, medium in both size and height.  She sat down on the grass and started comforting me. H.....h.....he took my siblings awa...aw....a......away to the ......c.....ci.....city I said choking on my tears.

Who took them ?she asked a line of concern drawing on her face. My uncle to took them. How am I going to live without them? I sobbed. Calm down my child. This was to happen soon or later you have to be strong. She said rubbing my back.

Okukula kukulira bizibu (growing up is facing challenges ) . I will tell Namuli to give you company once she's back from the farm. Thanks mama, I said as she stood up and left

. That day I didn't go to the farm. I felt so lonely, abandoned and betrayed. I longed for my mom and asked why God had to take my mom of all people. Why is life so unfair to me? Why can't I have peace of mind?

Will my siblings be treated fairly in the city? Will they go to school?  Why can't I live with my blood ? I asked myself questions that I couldn't even find answers. I sat down lazily on my bed and cried. I don't know why am crying. Is it because am afraid of staying alone, or is it because am afraid my siblings might suffer?

Time seemed to go very slow that day and nothing seemed to work in my favour ever since my mom's death. Imara ,Namuli called as she entered the house. My house has only two rooms the sitting room and a bedroom. Before the death of my mom I used to sleep in the sitting room with imarisha and my mom slept in the bedroom with mubiru. I went up to Namuli who hugged me so tight without saying a word. I felt relieved however much we had our ups and downs she was my best friend who could read me like a book. She knew how to make me feel relieved and happy. She's the best friend in the whole world.

We both didn't go further in studies since we both lived with single mothers and education was expensive  . I met Namuli while stil in primary school and her mother used to come with her at our place . We have been friends for almost thirteen years now.

She comforted me and offered to spend the night if I don't feel good. She then said happy birthday to you getting a small wrapped gift from her bag. Thanks dear I muttered. She had bought me a hair band black in color with a butterfly on it. I want you to be happy and spread your wings like the butterfly.  I felt so happy as I hugged her so tight tears rolling down my cheeks. Thank you so much what will I ever repay you with for everything you've done for me ,I said. Come on imara you've done more than enough for me and all I ask from you is an everlasting friendship.

Later that night she decided to stay and give me company. We both slept on the bed and then I saw my self sitting with mom and the other other girl who's definitely my twin. I saw the girl leave and mom told me to go after her,"go meet your sister imara, she said in a faint voice. Go and meet her now and tell her am sorry. She said tears rolling down her eyes. As I turned I couldn't see my sister anymore and as I turned to look at my mom she has also disappeared.  I called out to mom and that's when I heard someone shaking me and I opened my eyes to see Namuli sitting by my side in shock. What's wrong dear, what happened you have been calling your mom in your sleep? She asked concerned.  It was just a dream. Are you still getting the dreams seeing your sister? She queried turning her full attention to me. Yes I do. I said . Get some sleep we will talk to my mom tomorrow.

Read " Sister's Love " by the same author ( fatumah sulait )

.  She said tapping me on my shoulders.

The next day mama Namuli said,"I don't know a lot about your mom's past but she told me your father forced her to give away your twin sister and six months later they told her she died of small pox. She always doubted it as she wasn't allowed to even bury her own child. But your dreams always scared your mom as she had started to believe her daughter was still alive. She had told me that she's going to look for her daughter but then the creator called her before that"  so what can I do mama how can I know its true she's alive?  Am not sure my child. Your mom never told me anything about your dad for she had a lot of hatred in her heart. But I think mama shakira  knows something, she added.

Who's mama shakira?  I asked. She cooks food at masaka secondary school and I think they lived together with your mom before coming here. She explained. So where does she live? I asked . I don't know my child I just know where she works. Oh thanks a lot mama I said.
