Heated - Episode 19

 

TWO DAYS LATER.
"Don't tell me it took you two days to kill him." Harps asks.
"Do you think it was easy? With all the guards here and there. As soon as he saw me he was frightened in the presence of his guards. They immediately pinned me as threat. I had to leave that very moment when he became restless and i had to plot another move. Though i didn't get to enjoy his slow and painful death, all the same, i am happy he is dead . There's this surge of happiness, sudden happiness that erupted from nowhere." She smiles as she talks.
Wow she had never smiled but still he hasn't heard the death of the General. He has been face to face with his TV up till this very moment, still nothing. What was happening!
"Do you have a proof? Moreover how did you do it?" Harps asks.
"Well i poisoned him. I disguised as a maid and poisoned his tea." She answers.
Why is he not yet satisfied? Nothing seemed off about her yet he couldn't get himself to believe her. Is he the problem or she is the problem. It hasn't been like this with other persons she had killed for him. Was the kill too sooner or later.
"How did you get past the same guards that thought you were a threat?" He asks. This was a tricky question

. She wouldn't wanna seem off now.
"Well it's easy peasy... I went pass....."
"Sir, sir, tune up to TLC please," one of his men rushes in. Immediately Harps do so and increases the volume.
"The militants who are also beneficiaries of General Mcclaire Harrison erupted in tears after the confirmation of his death. It was discovered yesterday morning that the General at his late fifties was lying on his bed helplessly by one of his guards. It was said to be a rumor at first but it has been confirmed that he died from poison this morning. Sympathizers and other Generals already have taken his body to the cemetery at charles beacon lane where his funeral will be done as well.... We all clearly........" Harps mutes the TV. He had heard what he wanted to hear. He waves off the guard who came in and faced Ria.
"Job well done. I am so proud. Your father will be happy." He smiles at her.
He would be happy of course. After she made the right choice. She thought.
"And to think you were doubting me. Wow! Well i want to live my life afresh as soon as possible. Give me the info about the second person. I need to be on my way." She says feigning ignorance.
"Oh no.... Not so fast. I would like you to accompany me to the cemetery. I would like to say somethings to his corpse. Come on let's go." He says and stands up happily. She smiles to herself as she follows him behind. The stupid man is even making things even easier.
The funeral had ended by the time Harps got there. Still it didn't stop him from saying whatever he wanted to.
While he is busy saying different things to the grave, Mcclaire's men were busy eye contacting Ria who in turn did stylishly so as not to get caught by Harps' men. After his long speech, he heads to his car so happy and fulfilled. One would think he won an election. This is the perfect time to get his plans accomplished. Then something struck him. He had totally forgotten. He faces Ria sharply.
"Where the hell is the medallion?" He shouts.
"Calm down. I thought you would die in your happiness. So I never bothered telling you. Well like I said, i poisoned him which means he died while i was away. We didn't converse anything. But i sneaked his phone after i offered him the tea and his last message was: "PLEASE KEEP THE MEDALLION SAFE. I JUST SAW SOMEONE I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO SEE. I MIGHT NOT BE ALIVE SOON ENOUGH." She shows him the message.
"Damn that old fool. Always giving me stress in finding the other." He says absentmindedly.
"Do not beat yourself too much. He sent the message to a Nigerian number and seeing that I am heading tk Nigeria for the other mission, might as well bring you luck. How about i use one stone to kill two birds just like earlier?"she asks smiling and this made Mcclaire smile as well.
"Well then let's drop you at the airport." Harps announces. "I will send you the information as always. Just call me on skype when you get there." Harps instructs while Ria keeps nodding.
They got to the airport and escorted Ria into the hall. She was slightly uncomfortable but unnoticeable. She always outsmarts him.
"Well then we wish you a blissful and successful journey. Come back with the best news ever. Remember this qualifies you for your freedom." He says as he squeezes her left shoulder. They have almost turned when one of his guards blurts out.
"I remember that face sir. That's Mcclaire's soldier. He was in the cemetery, how come he is here?" He says pointing at the soldier's direction. Truly Harps saw a man he slightly recognised and he is going to the passenger's line with a woman. He held the woman so closely. This didn't make sense to Harps. What concerns him and the man? The woman might be his girlfriend, wife or sister.. every one should have a plan. Mcclaire's funeral shouldn't pause anybody's life.
"I don't see anything wrong with him. Why?" Harps asks the guard.
"He can't be here sametime as us. He is supposed to be mourning with other soldiers. This doesn't makes sense." He says again looking at Ria.
"Maybe he is one of those Mcclaire mistreated and he is happy to be free." Harps retorts facing his guard who is still adamant and looking at Ria. One would think he is suspecting her.
"Or maybe that woman also came to sympathise with him and escorted her here." Ria defends.
"No. That's not it! Maybe he is following you. You might have been the last person who visited him before the maid who poisoned him. He might be coming after you for revenge." The guard says and Ria heaves a heavy sign of relief knowing all these is out of concern for her.
"I see sense in that but our Ria will be fine. She has the strength of a sensible number of you put together." Harps says smiling at his guard who was only concerned for Ria.
"And moreover i will take him down before he does anything stupid to me." She adds and then hugs them all before heading to stand behind Mcclaire's soldier in the passenger's queue.
"I hope everything went well?" She asks him acting as if she is working on her phone.
"He is ahead of me. Plan went well." Came the reply and she smiles. She turns behind her and waves Harps and his men...
