Falling For Innocence - Episode 32

 

Sarah:

Two weeks. It has been two weeks since i got kidnapped with Jake in

that room. Everything has been falling into place during this two

weeks. Jake and dad were discharged from the hospital two days after

the incident. Their injuries weren't severe and they didn't want to

remain in the hospital so the doctors discharged them. Jake who lost

consciousness after the bombing and scared me to death turned out to

be just fine . The doctor said the shock of being in that room counting

down to his death had made him lose consciousness due to skipped heart

beats, blood and oxygen supply to the were cut off for a little while.

Thankfully, Jake was fixed on drips for a day and he was fine. Dad has

some bruises but he insists he is fine. Daisy has also been discharged

from the hospital along with her grandmother. Hannah's mother who was

just in an accident was released yesterday. She insisted that she

wanted to be there at luscious' trial. Luscious. Thinking about him

alone is sending cold shivers down my spine. I now know of everything

the monster did to my mom. We have been catching up though

i. Ever since the incident, she insisted i live with her in her hotel

suite while i serve my remaining days in the orphanage. Not a day goes

by without her spoiling me with one gift or the other. She seems very

happy to be re united with me but i can tell that she is longing for

my father as well. My dad is back at Margaret's house and he still

lives there with Jake and his mother. He will probably leave with

Margaret after Jake's community service end. I guess he chose them

over us but i can't blame him. They have been with him during those

times we were estranged.

I am currently on my way back to the hotel from the orphanage and i

am so tired. Both physically and emotionally. Ever since the bomb

blast, Jake hasn't spoken a word to me. I thought things would be

different as he already confessed his feelings to me but he has been

avoiding Me at work too. Sometimes, i spy on him without his knowledge

as he interacts with the children and daisy. He's so good with his

little daughter that i can't help but imagine how he will be with our

children. I shake my head at the thought. I only have one day left

before i leave this place with my mom. My convocation is around the

corner and mom offered to buy a house for the both of us in lagos.

I finally get to the hotel and as soon as i open the door to mother's

suite a pop sound go off.

"Surprise!" mom yell. I look beside her to see dad with a bottle of

wine in his hand. My mom skip to the door and drag me in. My dad pour

me a glass of champagne then hand it to me.

"What's the occasion?" I ask puzzled.

"Tomorrow's your birthday honey and today's the end of your service at

the orphanage. I just thought to celebrate the both of them together

tonight" my mom say cheerily. I look to dad and he shrug.

"Don't look at me. I got dragged here too. You can't stop your mom when

she puts her mind to something" he says then Tweak her nose playfully

and i see her smile brighten.

"You did like that about me Paul" she say and they both stare into each

other's eyes. I have to clear my throat to get their attention back to

me.

"Oh dear! I already have everything planned for tomorrow. I took

tomorrow off for you. It's supposed to be your last day so we can

leave the day after tomorrow" mom says.

"Wait, you guys are leaving?" dad ask. He looks panicked and i wonder

if its because he wants to spend time with me or mother.

"Dont worry dad. I'll try to pay you and Margaret a visit in port

Harcourt" i say and he nod solemnly.

"Enough of the talks of leaving. Lets cheer to a new year for our baby

girl and to new beginnings." mom raise her glasses and we all clink our

glasses together.

"Happy birthday honey" dad says as he kisses my temple.

"thanks dad" i say. Mom kisses me also and wish me a happy birthday.

After wiping off my glass of wine, i excuse myself and find my way to

my room. Today was probably the last time I'll see Jake. My heart

feels heavy but i know its probably for the best. Jake has his hands

full with taking care of daisy and then his music career. He is going

to leave tomorrow and forget i exist.

Paul:

"She doesn't look happy" I say to Amelia as Sarah walk away.

"Well we are leaving the people we love so-" she goes to say but then stop.

"I mean, she's leaving the people she loves" she corrects and i can see

the faint blush on her cheeks. I wish things could be different but

Margaret has been there for me when ever i need her and i can't just

leave her now. Our wedding is just about two weeks away.

. What kind of

a man am i if i abandon her like that? No, i can't.

"She seem to have a special relationship with your step son. Dont you

think?" Amelia ask and my mind goes back to the night of the blast. I

think i remember Jake saying i love you to her but i never thought

about it after that day.

"Well, now that you have mentioned it, i think so" I muse aloud.

"I need a favour from you Paul. That's the reason i called you here.

Tomorrow's her last day here and i want her to be happy even for a

day. I want us to set her up with Jake. I already have two tickets for

a movie date and we can set them up to go to the park nearby after the

movie. What do you think?"she ask. She looks excited about her idea.

With flushed cheeks and shining eyes, she looks as beautiful as she

was two decades ago.

"I think you are beautiful"

"What?" Amelia nearly spit out her wine and i realise i must have said

that aloud.

"I mean your mind. You have a beautiful mind for you to think of

that." I force out the lame excuse and Amelia narrow her eyes at me.

"So i just have to get Jake to the cinema?" I ask and Amelia nod.

"He shouldn't know he would meet Sarah there though. He might not want

to come" she say and i nod.

"okay fine" i say and extend my hand to shake on the deal. Amelia slip

her small hand into mine and i can feel the electricity buzz between

our hands.
