“I want to discover myself,” I finally told Ethan what had been disturbing me since the beginning of my mid-term break.

He looked at me confused. “How does that affect me?” he asked with a smirk.

I looked at him helpless and lost. “I need your help. You've discovered yourself right?” I asked a little unsure.

He started laughing. I looked at him confused . Did i say something wrong or senseless? “It's not funny jhoor.” I tried to look less helpless, but all my efforts were to no avail. He kept on laughing.

Since he wouldn't stop, I decided to stop him for him. I slapped him hard at his back, and ran out of his room to my room.

It was time, time for my favourite Nigerian comedy series; ‘The Johnsons’. Dammy introduced me to it the very day Ethan introduced ‘Jenifer's Diaries’ to me.

I switched on my room TV, and quickly put it in ‘African Magic Urban’ to enjoy my series.

Immediately the series started, Ethan walked in. I jumped off my bed, grinning. “Toh! If I want to beat you back, I would do it when you least expect it.” With that he sat down in my bed. “I'm here so I can come and answer your question, but let's finish the Johnsons first o.”

I smiled, and sat down back on the bed.

The very moment Spiff started doing something beyond stupid, my paternal grandmother called me

. Gosh. Since they arrived they've done nothing, except making me uncomfortable. I sighed and stood, while Ethan laughed at me.

I walked slowly to the sitting room, making sure I took my time.

“Esse my child, come and seat here,” My grandmother said as she tapped the space beside her.

I walked smartly to her side. She hated sluggishness. I sat down beside her calmly. “How is school dear?” she asked with her right hand on my back.

I smiled, a fake warm smile. “Very fine ma," I replied as I raised my head to see what they were watching in the sitting room.

They were watching CNN. Argh! Parents are boring.

She smiled at me. “I'm proud of you my child, I'm sure you'd be a very good lawyer," she said, making my face snap to her's.

"She's not doing law oh,” my mom busted her bubble immediately.

Grandma Theresa looked at my mom completely shocked. “Thomas what's she saying?” She gave my dad a stern look.

“Esse your room now,” my dad ordered me. I stood up quickly and went to my room. I locked the door behind me. I knew a fight was going to arise.

“What's wrong?” Ethan asked me completely concerned.

I explained everything to him, starting from what my mom told me in the kitchen.

His face fell and he sighed. “I honestly don't like grandma Theresa, she annoying. Thank God she's not on my neck.”

I sighed as my shoulders fell. “Annoying.”

His facial expression changed from joking to serious. “Finding yourself is a personal something. No one helped me, but I knew I had to come out of my shell too. So I did a little research, watched some seminars online, went to physical seminars, but all were to no avail. I could feel it within that I was still lost, that was when I realized I had to do something. I got a special journal for it. I put down everything that happens to me there, and gradually I started realizing a lot about myself. I read it or revised it every Saturday. And before I knew it, I was knowing this and this, and in no time at all I was out of my small shell. Don't back on friends they can't help you, it's all you. And a little seminar though.” He laughed humorlessly as he said the last part, shrugging.

I'm very shocked Ethan could be this serious in his entire life. “Thank you,” I appreciated him. He didn't reply, he stood up and left instead, saying. “It's all on you, I know you can do it.”

Immediately he left, I let myself ponder on his word. When his words completely sunk in, I picked up my computer and started doing some researches on self-discovery.

I had already started feeling sleepy when a loud thud came from the sitting room. I quickly stood up, and tiptoed to the sitting room.

The doors were closed, I placed my ears gently on the door to eavesdrop. “Mother, my wife is right. It's high time you stopped this your control over my family, you've done enough harm. You've made my daughter hate me, I'm sure she doesn't see me as her father anymore, and it hurts. I'm not your baby boy again, I'm a married man now,” my dad defended himself for the first time ever.

“Thomas don't talk to your mother that way,” grandpa Mark talked authoritatively to my dad.

My dad sighed. “I don't even know anymore, but all I know is you both are going home tomorrow.” I started hearing his footsteps coming towards the door.

I jumped away from the door hastenly and ran back to my room, laughing like a crazy person when I got to my room.

Breakthrough!
