The running was fruitless.

The ground was adorned in the cherry bright life force of brothers, sisters, mothers, father's and even children.

The zombified creatures kept on going for more.

The soldiers had chosen to run to the castle where they could equip and possibly hide out from the unstoppable monsters.

Ajoke raced to catch up to her father who was taking the loss of his powers well.

"Father!"

She called out, hoping he would slow down.

Her fathe turned to meet her gaze. He felt humiliated . No! That wasn't it. He was ashamed.

He felt like a monster, like the one he despised and ended.

"Yes?"

She hated to add to his already huge burden but they could not keep on running.

They were doomed.

The creatures they were fighting against were never tired, immortal and always hungry.

The perfect killers.

"We have to stop this somehow. Is there a way?"

Her father's expression held the hard truth, 'they were dead meat'.

Immediately the survivors entered tge castke, they barred the doors from the creatures who did not relent from trying to uproot the huge oak doors from it's hinges.

"We need a plan and fast."

Gbonka said.

They were way out of options.

Ajoke could see Remi still sulking over his father.

He had somehow carried the man's body.

He and Daruma kept staring down at it like it was a doll they did not want to let go of.

She walked up to Remi, hoping she could reassure him that she was there for him.

"Remi..."

She voiced, her voiace now raspy from the mad run.

"I don't want to hear it. And I thought my father was the monster."

Ajoke did not miss the sarcasm in his statement.

She was beyond repulsed.

Somehow he was blaming her for this.

What a selfish fool!

"I can't believe I even saved you."

She spat, turning to look for her father.

He was walking up the stairs to one of the castle Chambers.

Curiousity got the better of her and she followed him or maybe she was just trying to cope with her new burning hatred for Remi.

. It should be comforting but not for Adeola.

It was too quiet even for a bunch of mindless zombies.

Something was going on.

A distinct screech up told her what.

It was an undead and somehow they were...smart.

They were climbing.

The creature lunged for a young man but was brought down before it could do any damage.

That was of no help.

It would regenerate in seconds and the fight would continue.

The creature reawakened and like before lunged for people to sink it's yellow teeth in and feed.

More kept pouring like cockroaches in an infected house.

The once safe zone had turned to a battleground.

They were doomed.

They needed help and even I this, the Demigods were useless.

Ifadoju was dead so they could not hear what the god's had to say about this. They were utterly doomed.

The creatures encircled them, their cold dark eyes like beasts with no soul, closing in on them like a quick snack.

They all suddenly fell to the ground.

It was like someone had flipped a switch that kept them alive. What happened?

***

With tears in her eyes, Ajoke begged her father not to do it.

He was about to plunge to his death believing a stupid theory that if he died any magic he had done would be undone.

Her father held her in a warm embrace, staining her shoulder with hot wet tears.

"I have to."

He said.

"Thank care of my grandchild."

He added before pulling her out of the embrace and falling to his death.

A cold shiver engulfed Ajoke when she heard a loud this, it wqs her father's body hitting the earth.

Silence ensued and she could tell it worked.

She crawled to the ground holding her stomach and crying.

"It didn't have to end up like this."

The door opened and she turned to see the intruder.

It was Remi.

She turned to herself crying some more to ease her pain and ignoring his presence.

It did not work well.

She was hurt and broken and remi tge only solace and amte she could get at the moment.

She jumped to his shoulder and let it all out.

Remind held h3 tight, giving her cooed words that he wished would help with the pain but not even the heavens could ease her of this pain.

"It's alright."

He continued to pacify her.

Maybe one day, she thought but definitely not today.

Remi took her downstairs.

Everyone was quiet like they knew what had just transpired.

Ajoke wished otherwise because it only added to her pain.

On the bright side, there was now peace.

She spoke way too soon.

Someone charged madly for Adeola.

She turned to meet the person.

It was her brotger.

He had a dagger that looked so sharp it could end ger in seconds which was undoubtedly it's mission.

Her instincts took over and she kicked her brother in the stomach, sending him flying.

The dagger slipped from his hands and clattered to the floor.

Adeola picked it up and knew she should plunge it deep into his heart for everything he had done but something in her melted.

It was her love for him, even if he was a beast, he was still her brother.

She let go of the dagger and fell down on her knees weeping.

She couldn't do it.

The hate wqs gone.

She could not keep it anymore , She had been strong for way too long.

This did not faze Adetoye.

He quickly grabbed the dagger for another strike.

He had ran mad.

The dagger was inches away from Adeola's back and everyone was too shocked to rush to help.

An arrow whizzed right in time, hitting Adetoye right in the heart.

He would never survive it.

Blood seeped slowly from the spot where the arrow went through.

Adetoye stared blankly at the Sharp shooter before falling to the ground dead.

Everyone turned to Daruma, a scream of celebration piercing the room.

Now there was peace.
