Aremu knew all he had to on how the scholars passed the triangle unharmed.

terrified prisoner had placed it all at his feet.

At the Desuda's part of the shield, there was a weak spot.

Aremu had gone around the shield one time to many but there was something he had missed.

In many parts of the shield, people incinerated to dust but at the weak spot, people got burnt.

They still died but it was a change.

Seeing the prisoner was truthful meant he could keep him alive as long as he was useful.

He turned to one of his random soldiers and said,

"release the prisoner. Shave him and dress him in the finest robe then bring him to me."

The soldier ran as fast as his legs could carry to carry out Aremu's command.

In a minute, the prisoner was sent into his chambers.

The young man's look had magically transformed.

His haggard looking unshaved face was now smooth and glowed.

He had to give credits to the servants, they did a good job.

Aremu noticed the man was uneasy as he kept shifting his gaze from one object to another.

He could be manipulated.

"Sit please." Aremu said with the most polite tone he could muster.

The man took his seat cautiously obviously expecting the worst.

"What's your name?"

Aremu asked trying to create a conversation.

"Deeeeleee",he stammered, his.body threatening to burst out of the room any second.

"Nice name",

Aremu vaguely commented, focused on his diabolical intentions.

"I'm sure you must be wondering why i called for you?"

He continued.

Dele only nodded with his face focused at the red earth.

Aremu stood up and walked up to Dele as if making a statement as he spoke,

"Dele, i need someone like you . Someone that can betray his own people to survive."

He paused when he saw Dele's pained look

. He took it to his advantage,

"Think about it. They forgot about you. I think it's time you forget them. The only people that survive this world that are ready to do anything. Are you ready General Dele?"

Aremu completed.

It was an irresistible offer.

Men loved power.

It had always been the cause of their downfall and this man was going to take it because his life depended in it.

***

Remi slowly roused as the stuffy air in the room began to choke him.

When he was wide awake, he studied his environment.

He was in Ifadoju's house.

Everything that happened before he passed out quickly came back to him.

He wanted to walk but he was weak.

His transformation had taken a toll on him.

"Don't move."

A voice bellowed from around the corner.

It was raspy like Ifadoju's voice.

The old man stepped out.

He was only putting on a wrapper which hung loosely on his waist threatening to fall.

He held a concoction in his hands as he approached Remi.

"Drink this. It will help."

No sooner had he given it to Remi, he went back to his kitchen.

As Remi drank the sour liquid, his mind raced back to his ordeal with his brothers.

Were they dead? Remi had a lot of questions for Ifadoju but seeing the man was busy, left quietly.

The road to his camp wasn't far off, so he made it on time.

The atmosphere of the training hall had changed.

His premonitions were never wrong, plus it was deadly silent.

He went to hhis camp. It was there he knew what was happening.

There was a party.

He could see Adegboyega waving towards him.

He wore his regal crown hinting Remi to the possibility that might not be a regular celebration.

"What happening?"

Remi asked his bubbling friend.

"My sister is having a charity event. She brought a lot of supplies for the injured."

he said before noticing a deep gash on Remi's arm,

"you should check that up."

Adegboyega completed before joining the bandwagon to celebrate and get drunk.

Remi approached a maidservant tending to the injured.

had a burn on her neckline. It was one of an indentured.

"Sit."

The woman requested not bothering to look up.

Remi took his seat as she brought a clean rag and

"ori"

to cleanse the wound.

Remi slowly winched in pain as the woman went to work, delicately cleaning the open flesh.

"So, what's your name?"

Remi asked in an attempt to break the silence.

The woman finally looked at him giving Remi the rich opportunity to observe her.

She had large eyes that dominated her long face.

Her mouth was wide and when she smiled, it balanced her features. In one word, beautiful.

"Ajoke."

She replied as she finished dressing his wound holding it in place.

"I'm done. You can leave now."

She said with a bright smile.

Remi didn't feel like leaving.

He felt like watching Ajoke all day.

Ajoke noticing his disorientation waved at his face effectively snapping him of his thoughts.

"Where do you live?"

Remi found himself asking, kicking himself as the word came out.

The girl only smiled and said,

"The wall."

She then stood and took her leave.

Remi's senses tingled.

He was drunk but he saw a clear vision.

It was the princess.

She was at a stream and he could see two men approaching her warily.

The look in their eyes were dangerous.

He took his scabbard and sped off.

The princess,Adeola screamed for help till her lungs became exhausted.

"Give us your money."

One said brushing his rough hands on her delicate body.

Adeola threw her pouch full of gold and crown to the ground.

The men took it and began whispering to themselves.

Adeola's mind raced on how she could escape.

She was wearing a long gown so she could barely run and attacking the men was not an option.

They were more bulky and had weapons, two daggers that smiled wickedly when the moonlight glistened on them.

"Take off your clothes."

They finally said in unison.

They wanted to rape her.

"Are you aware I'm your princess?"

She asked apparently shocked at their request.

The men only snickered and told her to hurry.

Adeola was about to comply when she heard a shout from the bushes.

Remi charged blindly at the muggers.

He had the advantage of surprise.

The men had dropped their daggers when they wanted to commit the abominable act.

They fruitlessly defended themselves.

One reached for Remi's stomach when he got hold of his dagger.

Remi foresaw his assault and shielded himself with his sword.

He punched the man with such a force, he went flying.

The other sensing defeat, helped his cohort up and fled the scene.

Adeola was more than grateful to her white Knight, in fact she was smitten.

Remi sheathed his sword and turned to take his leave.

"At least tell me your name?" Adeola requested.

"Remi."

He replied before taking his leave.

Adeola took her crown and money walking away out of fear, the muggers might return.

She was grateful to Remi, perhaps even in love with him.

She had to tell Ajoke.

When Remi returned to the party, he heard a very familiar sound.

It was a laughter he knew too well.

He turned to see Ladele drinking heavily.

He seemed to have forgotten their duel in the forest.

Remi moved cautiously towards him.

His wounds were gone and he seemed perfectly fine.

He remembered Ifadoju was there when he attacked them.

The old man had done something.

He went to a hill not to far from the party but far from the disturbing noise.

He felt his skin tingling as the north wind passed.

He turned to see the person he had been waiting for,Ifadoju.

"How did you do it? Mind manipulation and healing."

Remi asked staring at the bright blue moon.

The seer walked past him not answering his question.

He raised his hands to the air and two large hail stones descended swiftly on Remi missing him by a hair.

"What are you doing?"

Remi yelled as he dodged another hail stone.

"Training you."

The old man curtly replied before summoning another,

"Do not see your gifts as yours. See them as an embodiment of nature inside you.

Read " Allure " by the same author ( samuelade. )

. Feel it then channel it."

Remi did as the old man said with difficulty.

No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't summon his powers.

He finally let himself flow away closing his eyes as an hailstone descended for his head.

Time slowed for a minute or two.

Remi opened his eyes to see the hailstone slowly making for his head.

Adrenaline pumped through his veins and he reached out to the stone flinging it violently yo the ground shattering it completely.

The old man smiled within,

"you did it. You passed your first test."

The silence ensuing between them signalled Remi that Ifadoju was about to leave.

"Wait! Am I the bloodtroll alpha?"

He asked just as a violent wind began to blow.

"Yes",

the old man said as the wind enveloped him and he disappeared just as he had appeared.

***

King Adeleke looked at his son with guilt.

He did not know how he would drop the bombshell to him.

Adetoye prostrated before taking his seat near his father.

"You called me father?"

He said, the usual allure in his voice.

"I wanted to remind you of today's selection"

Adeleke said, moulding his words,

"and you are getting married to Chikwe's daughter."

Adetoye maintained his calm demeanor.

" i understand father. It is for the triangle's peace."

He said before leaving his father to his thoughts.

He could not tell him now, Adeleke told himself.

He had chosen his heir but it wasn't Adetoye and he was in for a shock.

He called on the Royal messenger.

"Send for the royal horns to be blown. It's the engagement of the house of Adeleke and Chikwe."

The messenger ran to deliver his message and in a minute, he could hear the horns sending their melody to the sky. It was time.

The engagement was brief and formal.

Amaka was looking plump and her skin glowed like fresh honey, courtesy of the fattening room.

All she did was smile, joyful to leave her father's house.

Adetoye had a more reserved look.

One someone doing business would do.

He didn't have feelings for the girl.

He only saw her as a means to an end, His birthright.

Remi was at the engagement.

He was around to get a peek at the woman that treated his wounds at the princess' charity,Ajoke.

He walked out of the palace doors heading for the wall.

The wall was the last ruin of the long lost kingdom.

The triangle used to be a rectangle before the lost kingdom's destruction.

No one knew What happened to the people and it's ruler.

It was furnished by Adeleke who gifted it to his family workers and servants.

He walked to the uppermost room and knocked.

Ajoke took her time before opening the door.

Even in her plain garment, she looked elegant.

Her face was twisted as she stared at him with surprise.

"Are you going to let me in?"

He requested, noticing she hadn't recovered from her shock.

The woman released her hold on the door giving him enough space to slip in.

Their talk was brief but it was interesting.

Sometime later, Remi decided to leave.

The engagement was almost over.

Ajoke opened the door for him to leave when she remembered something,

"you haven't told me your name?"

Ajoke asked. "Remi",

He answered unable to keep a straight face before leaving.

Ajoke danced around the room.

Remi had promised to pay her denture when he joined the King's legion.

Her heart skipped a beat. She wanted to pour her emotion out to someone.

Yes! The princess, Her best friend.

***

King Adeleke summoned his children to hear his final verdict on who would be his heir.

His four children sat on soft red cushions forming a semicircle in front of their father's throne.

He stared at them each.

Their expression all different.

Adewale knew he could not rule, he was insignificant and just a figurehead.

Adetoye wore his best, keeping a plastic smile on his face, sure he would win. Adegboyega had no interest in the throne.

He hated politics and preferred the freedom outside, his eyes staring outside the window.

Adeola, only present because it was custom.

A woman could never rule, yet she smiled at her Father with glee.

"I have come to a decision",

Adeleke began,

"My heir will be... Adeola."

The atmosphere became chaotic.

All except Adetoye were shocked.

Adetoye had a murderous look in his eyes, he stormed out of the throne room.

The rest, recovering from their shock bowed to their father and took their leave. Adetoye could not stop the tears from flooding his eyes.

He raced to his chambers and collapsed to his bed.

"I hate you."

He cried, referring to his father.

Adetoye was sure he would be king.

He had even boasted of his achievement to those that cared to listen, now those dreams were shattered.

He heard a knock from the door.

He refused to answer expecting the person to leave but the person just entered.

He turned to look at the intruder. It was Chikwe.

"I learnt you weren't chosen, son."

He began. Adetoye just wanted to be left alone.

The man noticed his discomfort and upped his game.

" You know i can help you."

He said said finally gaining Adetoye's attention.

"How?"

He asked, his eyes swollen.

Chikwe smiled within himself.

His plan was working and fast.

(what do you think chikwe is planning)
