When the world is against you, it has a way of showing it.

The air got chilly, The gust grew in intensity forcing trees to do it's wish.

The sky was getting darker especially when the sun seemed to be swallowed by darkness.

Remi knew he had to get back to camp.

Standing up, the Moon's shadow had totally blocked the sunlight and blessed the earth with darkness.

Hearing a scream erupt from his camp, followed by others, Remi knew they were being attacked by the creatures.

He ran to his camp with only one intention, to help his people.

It was an all out massacre.

People were on the ground dead or soon to be dead.

Remi sighted one of the monsters and was about to strike it for killing it's people.

"No!" A voice said to him telepathically.

Remi knew it was the boy.

The beast noticed the third presence and charged for the intruder.

Remi could not see much thanks to the blinding mist that enveloped the camp.

He heard a soothing echo and followed it.

The sight in front of him was breathtaking.

The boy has some how managed to tame the beast returning to it it's human form.

"It won't last long."

The boy said.

"How did you do it?"

Remi asked.

"I don't think I can teach it."

The boy answered.

They would have continued the idle chatter despite being in a very dangerous predicament if they had not heard a cry for help.

Remi lit a torch and the boy did likewise.

Remi searched for Ajoke.

Pointing the flickering light to his tent, he saw she was not there.

She must have joined the others.

Where were they? I wishes my useless powers sometimes had an off and on switch that I could use when I desired.

Remi could do one thing though.

This needed to stop and he needed the help of the one man he was sure could help.

Remi sat on the ground ignoring the noise and screams to teach a state where he could communicate with Ifadoju.

"Ifadoju, I beseech you."

He whispered solemnly.

His medallion glowed and when Remi opened his eyes.

He found himself at Ifadoju's house.

"What!"

Remi exclaimed.

He had been using the state to communicate to Ifadoju in the past but he had never actually been there.

He would only hear his voice. He held his mother's only parting gift on his palms.

It had to be the thing enhancing his powers.

"Well done, child."

A voice said from behind him.

Remi turned to meet the gaze of the old man.

He had not changed one bit.

"How can I do this?"

Remind asked still doubting his enhanced abilities.

"The medallion"

Ifadoju pointed out.

Remi wished he could spend time with the old man a little but this were hard times.

"Ifadoju"

Remi began,

"I want to know about the curse of the people of Desuda."

The seer stood up and stroked his bearded chin obviously trying to remember then he spoke.

"It happened years ago, when your mother created the triangle

. The crystal of fire for Desuda, The stone of indestructibility for Ayetoro and the gem of Invincibility which was shared by your father and his brother. The people of Desuda were spiritual people who served Ala, the goddess of nature as their protector but when the stones came, They forgot her worship and began to praise their new god. Ala grew infuriated and placed a curse on the people of Desuda turning them to beast at night and people by day. Seeing their curse was great. The people of Desuda begged Ala for forgiveness and she instructed to remove the crystal. They refused and failed Ala's test. Ala preasummed she was needed again and hid her shrine. Till this day, her shrine had not been found. It has been preordained that the people of Desuda will become free of the curse if the shrine is found."

The old man paused and turned to Remi,

"It has never been found but my humans, find it. You are the only one who can save them."

"There is not enough time."

Remi protested.

"Yes, but you have your brother. You are..."

"Wait, what?"

Remi cut in.

"I found my brother? When?"

The old man's face displayed a great smile as he said,

"Daruma is your blood.

. Save your people."

Remi had a lot of questions but time did not permit. He woke up to find himself being jostled by the boy.

"I've found the survivors."

He said. Remi's mind wandered to what Ifadoju had said.

"Daruma."

Remi thought out loud.

"Yes?"

The boy asked.

"You are Daruma?"

Remi asked to be sure.

"Yes ."

The boy replied. Remi felt something inside of him well up.

He thought he was alone but apparently his brother survived the fire.

He did the only thing that crossed his mind.

He hugged his brother, his family.

Gbonka looked at Remi with uncertainty but even he was smart to know they had no choice.

Their torches were running out and soon they would be in perpetual darkness, open for another attack from the creatures.

He had to approve the mission.

"Take as many as you need."

Gbonka ordered and left to attend to the injured.

Remi reached out to no one.

Ajoke was safe and he did not need deathweights.

Thier safety was more important.

Deep down, he knew that was a lie to himself.

He only wanted to get to know his

"lost but found brother"

more.

The boy seemed to be downright tortured by the revelation.

Remi walked up to him.

Ajoke was there conversing with him.

Remi remembered what he told him when he learnt they were blood.

His family, Albeit adopted were slaughtered by the beast and it was his fault.

They had warned against wandering away to far but he got carried away and it cost them their lives.

"Hey there."

Remi said to announce his presence.

Ajoke gave him a chaste kiss and left them to each other.

"Well"

Remi started, trying hard to figure the right words to use.

"your backstory was hard to imagine but you can't continue to wallow in self torture. I also had a hard past and I'm better now."

He paused to reflect on how his words was affecting his twin.

His expression was not describable. He still looked hurt.

"If you want their forgiveness,"

Remi continued.

"Let break the curse."

Daruma still looked like he did not care.

Remi stood up to leave determined that he would break the curse even if his brother did not follow him.

"Wait,"

Daruma finally spoke,

"I'm coming too."

***

Adetoye witnessed the castle's in total chaos.

They must have found his letter.

He had carefully dropped it in her room without anyone noticing.

His goal was getting closer and closer to becoming reality.

"If only you could see me now father."

He spat.

Walking out to his sister's room, he saw several officials.

"What happened?"

Adetoye asked as if naive.

The official broke down the news,

"Your sister left a note stating she is not interested in the throne. She has disappeared."

Adetoye put his hands on his mouth to express shock.

What an actor.

"This is terrible."

He stated making his voice audible.

"Aremu will soon be attacking. We need someone to stay on the throne. This is not a time to start searching, I volunteer my stepbrother, Adewale."

Adetoye said this with confidence.

After all, he had planted his supporters there to reject his notion.

"Only the seven elders can decide. There is no time to waste."

One of his supporters said.

In no time, a meeting was held.

Adetoye and Adegboyega were brought forth to the elders for the final deliberation on who would be king.

This was not really necessary, Adetoye had paid off the elders and promised all their children places of power if he was chosen but the act had to go on.

One of the elders stood up to say their final decision on who would rule the throne.

"According to the laws of the land",

he began.

"Adetoye is our perfect candidate."

Adetoye wanted to scream in joy.  After all his malevolent plotting, he finally had what he wanted.

"I accept regency."

Adetoye accepted and bowed to his stepbrother.

"I know you are responsible for her disappearance."

Adewale accused Adetoye.

Adetoye was frankly surprised that his always unconcerned brother faced him.

"Are you accusing me?"

Adetoye played dumb.

"I'll find out what you did and when I do, I'll reveal you to the whole world "

Adewale threatened and left.

This infuriated Adetoye.

Just when he was about to get everything, someone had to ruin it.

Not this time though, he had a god on his side.

"Esu!"

He summoned.

***

Adeola had made up her mind.

She was not going to be a witch.

Aje had been nice to her but she had made up her mind.

She was going back to Ayetoro.

She wasn't going to fear anyone.

She got her opportunity when the witch arrived to serve her her food.

It was plantains dipped in red oil.

Aje had revamped her cooking after her arrival to suit her taste.

It was not the same as the castle food but it served it's purpose.

"Aje,"

she began unsure of how to drop the bombshell.

"Yes?"

The witch said in between panting.

"I don't want to become a witch."

She declared.

The witch took the news well and even smiled.

"I know. Let me show you something."

She said and offered her hand to Adeola who took it.

They both closed their eyes and felt their spirits leave their body.

Adeola opened her eyes after her vision of the future.

It was terrible.

The destruction, the death, the plague.

She could not get it out of her mind.

Aje also opened her eyes and turned to a physically disturbed Adeola,

"Your choice?"

"If I can prevent that future, I will become a witch."

Adeola declared.

A minute in the future had hardened her especially the death of Remi.

(Say your mind oh)
