The registration for new students was now over with lectures commencing the next week and matriculation a week after that. The one week in between was used by most new students to get settled while the returning students carried out their registration.
Princewill gathered his things together, he sighed, looking at the load gathered, which was now more than he expected. He had his cooking utensils in one bag, clothes in another, food stuff in yet another . It was Friday evening, a day before he would move into the school's hostel where he had gotten a room for himself, he was already all set with everything carefully arranged in its bag.
In as much as he was going to miss staying at home, he was somewhat glad to be staying in the hostel. His father did not even want to think of the idea of him leaving the family house but thanks to Nnamdi. His elder brother's surprise intervention and support got him staying in the hostel, he would not be leaving from home to school everyday like his sister had been doing.

. Ever since Nnamdi started acting strange, it had become very rare to see him involved in or even say a word in any of the family's affair, he was usually distant, not letting anyone have a hint of what he thought

. So it was indeed a surprise to hear him insist Princewill does not stay at home.
Princewill heard the sound of his fathers Peugeot 504 drive into the large open compound they lived in, it was then he noticed it was getting late since his father usually closed his business for the day by 6:30pm, he went out to greet him.
"My son how are you?" his father answered in their native dialect
"Am fine sir, you are welcome".
His mother came out of the dinning that was separated from the main parlour with a curtain made of beads.
"My husband, you are welcome" she greeted him giving him a slight hug
"My beautiful wife, my God this woman you will not kill me, i didn't know it was from your kitchen this heavenly aroma is oozing from, all the way from the beginning of the street I have been perceiving it"
"Papa Ngozi, you have started again, I know it's because its your favorite that's why you are perceiving it miles away" she said smiling, obviously pleased with the compliment
"I can't wait to start devouring the food, am so hungry" he said collapsing in to one of the parlour chairs
"Ekene go and put water in the bathroom for your father" she said to Princewill
"And when you do that, go and help Chukudi put those drinks in the store." His father added as he turned to leave.
When his father was done, Princewill came in to clear the plates to the kitchen where Chika would wash them later.
"Prince when you are done I want to see you in my room" his father said as he cleared the dining.
It was customary for his father to summon you to his room when he had something important to discuss.
Princewill entered the room his parents shared, his father sat bare chested on the edge of the bed counting some notes obviously from the days sales.
"Papa I have finished" Princewill said on getting in
His father said nothing yet, mumbling to himself as he counted.
"Yes, sit down" he replied when he was done counting.
Princewill sat on one of the three plastic chairs in the room.
"Your mother told me you have finished packing your things"
"Yes sir"
"Its okay, that's good, you know very well that you are my pride and joy. I always wanted you to become a medical doctor but you insisted on this your pharmacy, and glory be to God you have gotten it." He said going straight to the point as always
Scratching the hairs on his chest he continued "I do not have to tell you that I expect you to excel. Whatever you do remember where you are coming from, never forget whose son you are and most importantly never ever forget God. Stay away from girls, I repeat stay away from girls or any other distraction. From what I have heard that course is quite difficult but I know you can do it".
Princewill sat head downwards listening attentively.
"You have to be coming back home every weekend, I don't want you becoming like your brother Nnamdi"
Nnamdi was considered a normal growing boy filled with life and a very contagious smile until he was about to start his third year of university education. He suddenly turned a different person, he gradually talked less, smiled less, played less or do much of anything he did before. It got worse when he decided to quit school, it was tough as his father would not even hear of it, when the pressure was much, he disappeared from home for three months, and made contact with Princewill alone unknown to the rest of the family. When he returned, he became even more strange, always leaving home to where no one knows, roaming the city all day.
"Do you understand what am saying?" His father asked
Princewill nodded affirmatively.
"A word is enough for the wise, be wise my son. Nnamdi will drop you in the hostel tomorrow, meanwhile, hold this to take care of some of your needs" he said handing him some notes he pulled from under his pillow.
"Thank you sir, thank you papa" Princewill collected the money happily.
"You can go now, good night my boy"
"Good night papa, thank you very much" and he stood and walked out of the room happy, thankful, motivated. He decided within himself to work very hard and make his father proud.
