“Since the preliminary issues had been settled, are the parties ready to proceed to hearing today?” the judge inquired.

“Yes my lord, the prosecution is ready to proceed subject to your kind permission my lord,” Barrister Cyril responded.

“Permission granted, you may proceed,” the judge accented.

“With the leave of this honorable court, I hereby give evidence which I am confidently believing that master OkechukwuAniagu  the accused is guilty, he brought out the I.D card and showed it to the crowd and later to the judge” the judge examined the identity and smiled shaking his head.

Barr.Ogbu sprang to his feet.” Objection my lord”

“You may go ahead” the judge permitted.

“That I.D card cannot just be a proof that the bearer who is accused likely be guilty,” Barr Ogbu said.

Cyril stood up.  “Objection my lord”

“Over ruled” thejudge concludes, you may continue the presiding counsel. BarrOgbu continued by telling the court that someone must have set the accused up by keeping his identity card right there inside the same car he used  in Committing the crime.

Cyril saw facts in what he was saying . He concluded within him that Flash was the one that pulled the trigger on his beloved, this made him remember  Jennifer and he started shedding tears, but no one noticed it.

“Objection my lord” Cyril sprang to his feet, my lord,” he addressed the judge

. “My learned friend here seems to have forgotten the procedures; he is saying all these with every assurance as if he was to be there during the incident. May this honorable court call him to order and tell him not to speak with every assurance?

“Any reply to the objection?” the judge asked Barr Ogbu.

“My Lord” BarrOgbu tried to make his reply “It is allowed under our law precisely in section 300(2) of evidence of Act, to protect the interest of yourclient when evidence is brought up to destabilize the accused, and that is what I have done, my lord”, He submitted.

“Objection over ruled,” the judge pronounced,

“You may wish to continue, he told Barr Ogbu.

“Now I repeat, can the prosecuting counsel tell this honourable court the face he saw during the incident”

“Objection my lord” Cyril sprang to his feet. My lord I was a witness to the incident, actually I couldn’t see any persons face because I was driving with the deceased to Enugu for a case when suddenly two boys came out from a brown Volvo car and one of them pulled the trigger before me but the deceased blocked the bullet from getting me, I only realized what was happening when I saw her in a pool of blood stained in her clothes and mine”.

The courtroom was filled with commotion from the audience. May of them were beginning to have pity for Cyril and also admire his courage in the court.

“Objection sustained,” the judge ruled, “counsel you may wish to continue, he told Barr Ogbu.

          “My Lord,” Barr.Ogbu addressed the judge,

“I wish to make this submission and to have it on record that is difficult, unimaginable and impossible to believe that someone could have  witnessed the death of someone with him inside the car without even recognizing even one person, while the assassins were not even on mask.

“Counsel, spare the court these submission as they should be in your  address, “the Judge cautioned Barr.

“Yours is to expose the facts, leave the court with inference. Besides the prosecutor has not told the court that his evidence is closed.

“I an done, my Lord, “Barr. Ogbu said, resuming his seat. Some members of the audience saw some truth in what he said and started having misgivings. A lot of loopholes had been exposed and those need to be tightened by the prosecution.

The judge adjourned the case till the 11th day of July. Cyril walked out from the court without specking to any person at all. Even when Chizoba approached him to congratulate him on his performace in the court. He could not even notice her presence.  Chizoba, seeing  his mood, left it till another day.

“The task is hard” Cyril told himself as he was washing his car inside his compound but must be undertaken.”

The case was adjourned by the judge to the 11th day of July. He is now thinking on the possibility of him winning the case. He was still ruminating on this and saw facts in  all Barr. Ogbu said in the court, he blamed himself for being insensitive to his environment.

“Please Jen my love, forgive me for my stupidity, it was never my fault but it was just that I looked very confused on the day these wicked creatures created by God came and snatched you away from me” Cyril cried talk to himself.
