Adunni has been relatively calm since the visit with the pastor and the visit from her son. Things have been relatively peaceful in the house and she has ended her fake hunger strike. Adunni still craves a grand child badly but for her son's happiness, she has decided to trust God. It is not like she hates Chidinma. If she had, she would not have allowed the marriage to take place in the first place . She only wanted the cry of a baby in her son's house.
There was a small knock on the door. This brought Adunni out of her deep thoughts. The door was opened and the gateman, Abbey. "Mama, there is a woman at the gate. She asked for small madam but i tell her say she no dey house that na only you dey house. She come talk say she wan see you".
"Did she say from where?" Adunni asked surprised.
"No ma".
Adunni stood up and followed Abbey outside. She was not comfortable allowing a stranger into the house especially as she is the only one at home. Once they were outside, the woman in question leaves her spot at the gate and started approaching them. Adunni tried to place the face but she could not recognise who it was. "Good afternoon, I was told you wanted to see me," Adunni said.
"Yes ma. I am Patricia, Nelson's mother

. Nelson is the one who was prophesized that he can..." Patricia said rather nervously but was interrupted.
"I know who Nelson is. How may I help you?" Adunni asked.
"I believe we can both help each other. Can we sit down somewhere and talk?"
"I am sorry. Pardon my manners. Please come in," Adunni said as she led the way into the house. "What can I offer you?" She said as soon as they entered the house.
"Water would be fine. Thank you."
"Please have a seat," Adunni said then disappeared into the kitchen. When she reappeared, she was carrying a bottle of water and a tumbler. Both items were placed on a tray which she kept in front of Patricia to help herself. "So how may I help you?" Adunni asked as she sat down.
"Forgive me for being blunt but let me get straight to the point," Patricia said sharply. "We are both mothers and we obviously want the best for our children so I believe our interest align. Iam here concerning the little matter of the prophesy about my son and your daughter in law. Like myself, I know you want a grandchild and my son already informed me that you want  Chidinma out of this house and your son's life so that he can be with someone that can give him a child. I want Chidinma in my son's house so that she can give him a child that is why I am here to form an alliance to achieve both our goals".
"My goal is my son's happiness," Adunni simply replied.
"Likewise mine. That is why we should work together to ensure their everlasting happiness," Patricia said.
"My son's happiness lies with his wife, Chidinma. It might not be what I want but that is the cold hard truth. Child or no child, he wants to be with his wife".
"But..." Patricia started but was interupted with the door opening and Chidinma entering the house. She had just returned from work. She paused on seeing her mother in law with another woman. The older woman rarely ever entertained visitors and had very few friends. Chidinma failed to recognise the woman in question as Nelson's mother. "Haaa, my wife," Patricia greeted in excitement as she saw Chidinma who merely frowned in response to the greeting. "How was your day. Hope it was not too stressful?"
"My day was fine ma. Good afternoon ma. Mummy good afternoon," Chidinma greeted both women. She was seriously puzzled at the level of familiarity the stranger was talking to her.
"Good. Good. Sit down dear." Chidinma promptly sat. "My dear. I came here initially to see you but since you were not around, I decided to have a word with your mother in law instead," Patricia said in a cajoling voice. "You see my child, I want to beg you to forget everything that happened between you and Nelson in the past".
'Oh she is Nelson's mother,' Chidinma thought to herself.
"You need to think about the future especially now that you know your futures are interwined. My dear, you are a woman, a woman has an expiring date attached to her reproductive system so you need to act fast. Leave this life that you know, your husband and start afresg with the person you are destined with."
"I think I will stop you there ma," Chidinma cut in. "I am not destined to be with Nelson. I love my husband, Debo, and I don't plan on leaving him. Miracles happen all the time. When God says he time for us to have a child is here, then He will bestow it on us. A prophet has no say in my life." Chidinma said and looked at her wristwatch. "I am so sorry ma. I forgot I want to branch the super market on my way home to buy some important things," she said as she stood up. "Excuse me please. Mummy I will soon be back." Chidinma left immediately. She didn't want to be rude to the older woman. She knew that out of sheer frustration of everything that has been happening, she would end up speaking out of tune. 'Was this why Nelson has stopped stalking me?' Chidinma wondered as she drove out of the compound.
Patricia was at first disappointed by Chidinma's abrupt departure. She had been hoping to convince her but now she would have to continue working on Chidinma's mother in law who she initially thought would readily cooperate with her to seperate Chidinma from her son in her quest for a grand child. No, the woman is proving to be more difficult than Chidinma.
"Sorry but I would like you to excuse me. I usually observe my afternoon devotion at this time of the day," Adunni said as soon as Chidinma left, hoping the woman will take the cue that she is not welcome.
"Oh that is good. I hope you pray to God to use His divine intervention to seperate Chidinma from your son," Patricia said non challantly.
"No. I only pray to God to let his will be fulfilled in the lives of my children," Adunni replied irritatedly.
"Well we all know his will, don't we?" Patricia said, laughing nervously. "Ma, I will be leaving now".
"Okay".
"I just hope you convince your son to do what is right and stop delaying the inevitable. This is for the benefit of us all. We gave birth to our sons. Surely they also must produce sons and daughters. The circle must continue," Patricia said pleadingly.
"I understand. I will do what I can".
"Thank you." Nelson's mother said and left. Adunni did understand the woman. She also craves a grandchild, especially since Debo is her only child. The circle must indeed continue. She had always dreamt that her sons house will be filled with several children. Something she viewed as God's compensation to her for having just a child. But that dream has still not been fulfilled. She knew that it will one day be fulfilled. How and by whom, she really have no idea but she will keep on praying for God's will  to be fulfilled. That is all she can do. Any of the earlier drama she performed might cost her her only child and Chidinma eventually wins. That she cannot let happen.
