Chidinma drove straight home from the restaurant. She was angry. 'How dare Debo follow her?' She angrily headed towards her room, not acknowledging her mother-in-law on the way. Adunni was calm still which was not an easy feat for her. All she wanted was her son's happiness. Fighting had so far gotten her nothing except her son's anger.
"Chidinma," Adunni called out rather calmly. Chidinma stopped in her tracks on the stair case . She did not look back. 'This show of rudeness has to stop,' Adunni thought to herself. "The pastor called. He said he would like to see you and your husband," she said. Chidinma continued upstairs not replying or acknowledging that she got the message. Now Adunni was angry. She was ready to drop all her calmness and fight like she has always done but as she started up the stairs after Chidinma, she remembered the Pastor's words. 'Do not confront her,' the man of God had said. So Adunni, not giving in to temptation, decided to go into the compound. "Where has Debo gone to now?" she questioned aloud as she sat under the shed in the compound to avoid the temptation of giving her daughter in law a piece of her mind.
A few minutes later, Debo drove into the compound and Adunni rushed towards him before he even alighted from the car. "Debo where have you been? What happened?" she asked him as soon as he came out of the car.
"Is Chidinma inside?" Debo simply asked

. He was agitated and he looked it. As he spoke he was walking rather fast towards the house leaving his very much confused mother to run after him. "She is inside. Debo what happened? Talk to me. What happened?"
"Mummy I will tell you later". With that said, he rushed upstairs.
"God help is in this house," Adunni said as she watched from the bottom of the stairs. She was tempted to go upstairs so that she would be able to listen to what was going on but she decided against it. She would be intruding on their privacy. "What you don't want the elder to hear, it is the elder that will end up resolving the matter," she said as she sat down to watch a programme on the television screen. Her eyes was focused on the screen but her mind was upstairs in the master bedroom, wondering what was being said.

Debo entered their bedroom to find Chidinma sitting on the edge of the bed. Beside her is a packed suitcase. Debo knelt in front of her with his hands on her legs. "Chidinma, please don't leave me. Please. I cannot leave without you," he cried.
"Debo, I am sorry. I love you but it is time to be practical. I have to leave so that we can both have a fulfilled, happy life."
"Are you saying that you are not fulfilled and happy with me?"
Chidinma pushes his hands away and stands up. She picked up the suitcase that was beside her. "No I am not. I want a child, I need a child in order to be happy and fulfilled."
Debo stood up, angry. "We don't need a child in order to be happy. Even if that is the case. You want a child right? Then we will adopt one, today, tomorrow, any time you want".
"I don't want someone else's castoff. I want to carry my own child. Bring my own child to the world. Nuture my own child and give her the best. I don't want someone else's child. You will hear from my lawyer," she said equally angry and left the room carrying the suitcase with her. Debo rushed after her.
"Babe I am sorry. Please don't go. We will work this out together somehow." He pleaded as the made their way downstairs with Chidinma purposefully walking away from him. "Please Chi. We had plans. We will go to America". They entered the living room. Adunni stood up upon seeing them. She analysed the situation and stood there shocked. She could not believe what she was seeing. Chidinma was finally leaving her son's house. All on her own. What her shouting could not do, her patience has finally done it. 'Praise the Lord'.
"They will have solution for us in America. Look at your friend Raymond and his wife. They were also in our shoes. They found solution in America." He followed her outside, all the way to her car, still begging profusely. Chidinma pretended she did not hear him. He kept on begging as she kept the suitcase on the back seat of her car, entered the car and drove off. He ran after the to the gate and stood there looking lost as he watched the love of his life drive out of his life. Behind him Adunni stood at the entrance of the house, watching the light go out of her son's life as he stood there dejected. She picked up her phone to call the pastor. "Pastor, good evening. Chidinma just packed her things out of the house. I think she is asking my son for a divorce".
"What. Okay thank you ma for the information. I will give the two of them a call," the man of God said. Adunni ended the call and kept watching her son. "God please quickly send the right wife to my son," she prayef aloud, lookin up at the heavens before looking at her son who was still standing at the gate. Eventually, she walked up to him and guided him into the house. Debo was totally shattered. His entire world has collapsed on top of him.
