“Ma,please where is the man in ward 8?" Sarah asked panicking.
“Well,he died an hour ago,he can't keep occupying the bed,so we packed and moved him." The nurse replied.
Sarah couldn't believe her ears,she fell on the ground crying. He didn't even get to see her wear her uniform,she wanted to show her father she could make it,she wanted to make him very proud,she wanted to show him there was more to being a woman than just being a housewife and a mother. But she failed
. Her father is gone,her inspiration,her secret strength, everything was gone.
Mrs Mercy heard the news and quickly rushed to the hospital to meet Sarah. When she got there,she found Sarah on the ground weeping bitterly. She helped her up from the floor and hugged her tightly.
“My dear, God is in control." Mrs Mercy said with tears rolling down her cheeks. Sarah was barely 19 and she has passed through a lot in her little years on earth. She felt life didn't want her to be happy,it has been from one problem to the other. Her father was buried two days later. Sarah was so angry at her mother,she didn't talk to her throughout her stay with them. Why did they have to wait till he was almost death before calling her? She didn't even get to spend enough time with him before he died. After her father's burial,she told Mrs Mercy she was returning to school but she wanted Sarah to mend things up with her mother before going back to school

She begged Sarah to tell Maigret she was going back to school,Sarah refused at first but when Mrs Mercy was about going on her knees,she quickly stopped her and agreed to mend things up with her mother. Maigret apologized to Sarah,she said she only wanted to raise her to be a good wife and mother.
“How does maltreating your daughter make her a better woman and mother?" Sarah thought.
She stared at her mother weeping bitterly,she thought of the pains her mother had put her through. Sarah forgave her mother. She asked of Uyoyo,she has not been around since Sarah arrived. She was told Uyoyo now lived with her husband. She got pregnant and it could not be aborted,she didn't want to give birth to a bastard since she herself didn't know the father of her baby,she decided to settle with a village farmer. Sarah visited Uyoyo and then returned to school.
James came to visit her immediately he heard she was back,he had asked Bola about her when he didn't see her in school and Bola had told him about David's sickness and death. James hugged Sarah and told her to be strong. He also bought her food since he knew she won't be able to cook. That evening when James was returning to his hostel,he hugged Sarah again.
“Please be happy for me. I have something to tell you,but you have to be happy first." James said,he winked at Sarah and left.
