When Love Happens - Episode 1

 

The sound of broken dishes work Darey up, ‘useless man good for nothing’ Darey’s mom shouted, ‘prostitute you have finished giving your body to the whole community’ Darey’s dad replied. That was Mr and Mrs Chima Johnson Darey is the last child of the family with his big sisters who is also like their mom Mrs Chima, Darey’s mom had just arrived home early in the morning after spending the night at a man house and Mr Chima start raining abuses on her.
‘My own better nah at least they give me good money what about you, useless man you’re a disgrace to manhood’ Mrs. Chima said as she was about going to her room, ‘you called a disgrace to manhood’ (slaps her and pounced on her, hitting her severally) ‘I will kill you today . Mrs Chima yells ‘somebody help me oh this man wants to kill me’. Darey walks in trying to separate the fight but got a blow from his dad which was meant for his mom, ‘kill yourselves then you all would be satisfied’ he left the place straight to the bathroom take his shower got dressed as usual took his tray and went to the bakery to get some bread to sell.
‘Fine butter bread, buy bread’ Darey keeps yelling until a customer calls and bought a bread for N150 gave Darey N200, ‘don’t worry keep the change’ said the customer while Darey was trying to give him his change, ‘thank you sir and have a nice day’ Darey replied… Soon later the worms in Darey’s stomach start singing different kinds of songs he knew he was really famished, up ahead is a woman frying puff puff he walked down and bought N50 puff-puff with a sachet of water (pure water), he devoured the puff puff and heard his stomach singing songs of joy. He then continued his hawking and with luck on his side, he sold all the bread and some people left him their change and he made a total profit of N2000, he got home and was feeling very exhausted quickly brought out N3,500 from under his bed and added the N2000 he maid making it N5,500  he had been saving it to purchase his jamb form which cost N7,500 as he was counting the money his mom walks in, ‘where is that baboon you called a father’ Mrs Chima asked ‘I’ve not seen him’ Darey replied, ‘what about your sister’, ‘have not seen her either’ Darey said

. ‘eh borrow N500 there’ Mrs Chima said, ‘I don’t have any money on me’, his mom slapped him ‘oya stand up let me search you’. I only have N100 and I want to use it to eat, (Mrs. Chima forcefully collected the money and straight to the sitting room) in tears Darey said it’s not fair oo, ‘God punish your mouth’ his mom shouted.
He had nothing else to do than to cry, all he had eaten since money was just N50 puff-puff and now he is very hungry. His sister walked in with so much happiness and the only reason for her happiness is that she have hit it big in her prostitution market the Alhaji she was with last night gave her N300,000, ‘my swaggalicious mommy’ Terasa said excitedly Mrs Chima replied with a big smile ‘my bag of rice, this one you’re very excited come and gist me the latest my girl’ mom; ‘the alhaji I was with gave me half a million naira (brought out the money) momsi see nah this is the money, we go pop champagne’ Mrs Chima stood up and was dancing (looked at Darey) ‘God will shame my enemies’ she said. I bought us some take away and this 5-Alive juice on my way coming back, said Teresa bringing out the food and juice. Aunty Terasa please can I join you? His mom looked at him with the devils look, what did you just say? Eh nothing ma, it better be nothing Terasa said because you are a useless boy but even though you’re useless you are still my brother come and take some but you will have to wash all my clothes, no problem sis Darey replied excitedly I will wash all your clothes, take mumu boy Terasa handed him one of the take away food, you will wash including all my under wares oh, swallowed his spit ‘no problem aunty’. Leave this useless boy all he ever wants to do is go to the university and be like his useless father Mrs Chima said Terasa laughed ‘nah trailer go kill you for us’ she said, he managed to sleep despite the loud music his sister and mom were playing all through the night. 
A thunderous slap flew him out of the bed he was sleeping on, ‘get up jor useless child’ Mrs Chima said go-go-good morning ma Darey said trying to stretch his body, tell that to your ancestors Mrs Chima said ‘today is Sunday and some customers that will pay me good money will be coming so I need you to leave this house and not come back till evening, shey you hear me’ he quickly had his bath got dress and went out without his mother knowing. Today is Sunday so he decided to go buy some snacks and sell it in a Church after the service to make some money, he went to one of the biggest Church in his neighborhood which was two streets away from his street, lot of people came to buy his plantain chips  and he was so glad and excited then a beautiful dark in complexion tall lady about his age walked to him, how much is your plantain chips she asked, Darey smiled and said its just N50 oh, ‘give me one’ the lady said, pop it open and tasted hmmm this is nice give me two more handing him N200. He you go Darey said giving her two more with her N50 change, ‘don’t worry keep the change you plantain chips is so nice I love it hope you will be coming every Sunday to sell’ of course I will Darey replied. By the way am Joy what is your name, the lady asked, I am Darey he replied and thank you for buying, ‘you’re welcome joy replied with a warm smile bye see you next Sunday.
