Sarah's house was a palace but Kayode barely noticed. Neither the fleet of cars nor colourful fire lilies that decorated the compound impressed him. Not even the magnificent ball of chandelier, motion sensored lights or beautiful artworks inside the house awed him. All he wanted was to pour all his anger on Sarah . God knows if not for the bodyguards that flanked her all the time he might as well lay his hands on her.
      He would have crashed the building if not for security. He was that infuriated. She was the curse of his problem. She instigated this silly and pointless revenge game. If she lacked ideas on how to waste her dad's filthy riches she could as well shove them down a well for all he cared.
      Collins her P.A led him pass  flights of stairs and rooms he lost count. "Go in" he said at Last, ushering him into a space that resembled a movie theater
     "wow, I must say I have been expecting you alot sooner" Sarah was smoking a cigarette when he entered. Collins shut the door and left them.
    " Sarah?" the room was dark illuminated only by the rays that emanated from the t.v "You smoke?"
    "well kayode there are a lot of things we seldom know about ourselves right?" kayode couldn't comprehend "And yes I smoke. Indoors only

     "look I really don't care about that. I came to tell you that you need to stop what ever game it is you are playing with Caroline"
    "Who says I'm playing a game?"
   "Don't pretend with me. I know your tricks. You are trying to match make them. Caroline and Micheal right? Well let me tell you something. Caroline is my girl! my girl! so stop playing Cupid"

     Sarah couldn't control the laughter when it came. This Kayode guy was really a clown. She hadn't known him for long but he really fasinated her.
    "I'm paying her to ruin him" she said admist the laughter
    " Yet you watch them both get engaged and did nothing. You must think am a fool but I'm not"
   "Oh really" she was laughing again
  "You are the stupid one here. For God's sake Caroline is deeply in love with him. She confessed to me herself. Your silly silly plan is ruined"
    For a moment she stopped laughing and puffed the last of her cigarette in his face.
     "for as long as you live, don't you dare insult me again" she resumed her laughter but this time it was hysterical, more of a giggle. "I already know she loves him"

    "you know?" kayode didn't let the shock unsettle him "because it's all your plan!" he struggled to keep his voice level.
       "Absolutely, but not as you think it. I didn't plan for Caroline to fall in love with him. She is just a fool. As foolish as you. As foolish as all of you"
     "I am not a fool. Neither is Caroline. This is all your fault"
    "My fault?" She lit up another cigarette. "For almost 2 years you kept your feelings for Caroline to yourself and you stand here to say it's my fault? and when I finally get you to admit your feelings for her you come here and insult me?"
     "what are you talking about. You didn't get me to do anything. I only waited for the right time"
     She resumed with the laughter, poured herself wine and perused with it.
    "kayode, kayode. You think so highly of yourself. So you think that with an ordinary b.sd from that lame Maritime University you were able to land a 1million naira job at Matrix Oil & Gas not just any other oil company and without an interview or a referee? your God is really a miracle worker" she taunted laughing

    "what are you insinuating. That you got me the job?"
    She poked him lightly with her mercurial finger "you are not as foolish as I thought. what do you think happened"
    It all made sense to Kayode now. The sudden invite for a Job interview he half-heartedly applied for months ago. The warm reception he got from the staff and the M.D, the fact that there didn't even glance at his credentials, he didn't understood it then but if anyone could get him a job like that it was definitely Sarah.
    "I don't understand it. But why?
   "because you are a very important player in this game"
    "A game. What game?"
   "yes Kayode a game. You see, there is someone who has wronged me badly. Someone who I once love and cherished"
    she paced the room, taking meticulous steps towards Kayode "you know how much you love Caroline that you are willing to fight me for it right?" Kayode gave a slight nod "you love her so much you would do almost anything for her"   
  kayode gave another nod even though she was wrong. He would not just do almost anything for his Caroline, he would do anything.
  she continued "my love was like that immensed and true. But what did I get in return. Betrayal, lies, heart break. I practically watched the love get shoved in my face....and the thing about me is that I know how to keep a grudge. I don't know how to forgive my enemies"

    "Why do you hate this Michael guy"
  "that's not important. There is something I need you to do for me"
    "I don't want to be a part of this game"
   "what if I tell you it's something that solves both our problems"
  "and why should I trust you?" Kayode asked with skepticism
"because you know you can, because I'm not a bad person...and because you love Caroline"
    "what about Michael?"
   "trust me when I say this. Caroline can't marry Michael because He is mine and mine alone"
    Kayode nodded and listened as Sarah wispered the job to him. When she was done, she made him go through the lift, abandoning the rigorous staircases.
    Once outside Kayode knew He was right all along. He truly loved Caroline and would do anything for her even though what Sarah was asking of him went against all he believed in.
