‘’Everybody knows what happened during that meeting Chief, we want to know since when did the amanani stared pairing out with rogue warriors,’’ Roiman Lenku cut the old and blind oral narrator, the meeting had barely started when the warriors demanded answers. For once Koni agreed with Roiman. They needed answers and not stories . The oral narrator was the custodian of the history of the warriors. He was a very old man with a hunched back. Every time Koni looked at him, he worried that he was going to drop down and die but surprisingly he was still alive.

The chiefs insisted that if they were to start from the beginning. The start of everything.

‘’The past present our future warriors, exhibit patience,’’ Chief Dubaku insisted trying to calm the warriors.

‘’No Chief, one of our own was attacked by a cast out. Bor was a cast out from the Ukiri clan. He was caught red handed conspiring with the amanani. I think we are past patience,’’ Kofi the team leader of the Leopard warriors supported Roiman’s statement. He gave a small nod to Koni, they understood each other. Koni had briefed the other warriors of his attack.

‘’We can start with you telling us of the cast outs,’’ another warrior chimed in. groans of approval rang through the room.

The oral narrator turned his eyes towards the podium where the chiefs were seated

. For someone who was blind Koni was surprised when he nodded towards the Chiefs’.

‘’Through our history, we have had warriors that failed to control their animal side. They were overcome by their spirit and refused to take orders from Baraza la Wazee. The council was then forced to set them out. They became rogue. Cast outs,’’ the narrator began, his voice coming out as a song.

‘’The recent cast outs were from the Ukiri Clan, the five warriors killed more than hundred humans. This happened when the iron snake (railway line) was being constructed by the colonialists. It happened more than 100 years ago in the modern day Tsavo national park,’’

‘’We know of the story and the punishment the warriors received.’’ Koni cut short the story. Everybody knew about the man eating lions of Tsavo, there was even a book about it. Several myths and stories surrounded the incident.

‘’Then you should also know that the cast outs were hunted down and eliminated too,’’ Chief Dakarai answered Koni.

Now that was new, Koni didn’t know that the warriors were killed. The warriors never killed one of their own. What was the chief talking about? It was a taboo.

The room had gone totally silent, everybody was waiting for the chief to clarify his statement.

‘’The previous chiefs were done with dealing with rogue warriors who were poisoned with greed for more power so they looked for a solution to deal with the scourge. The cast outs were dealt with an iron fist. They were not allowed to integrate back into the community after being cast out of the council,’’

‘’How did they do it?’’ a warrior asked impatiently when the lion chief paused.

‘’A special branch of warriors was formed to eliminate cast outs,’’ the chief stated in a clear voice and an uproar went up in the room.

‘’You mean that among us we have warriors who are given orders to hunt us down and kill us?’’ a near hysterical warrior asked.

‘’They eliminate rogues who no longer take orders from the council. They eliminate warriors who get greedy and are a threat to our whole existence. How do you think we were able to stay in the shadows all this time warriors? Let’s look at the big picture here,’’ Chief Dakarai voice boomed on top of the chaos.

‘’Who are this warriors?’’ Roiman asked gnashing his teeth. He could not believe the betrayal of their chiefs.

‘’How many species of warriors do you see here Team Leader Roiman?’’ Chief Dakarai asked Roiman.

‘’Three, lions, cheetahs and leopards,’’ Roiman answered without missing a beat.

‘’How many species of warriors are there?’’

‘’Four…wait what does that mean? We are being hunted by the gorillas?’’

It came dawning to everybody. The gorillas were the cast out eliminators. What in the world? Koni couldn’t believe it. He hadn’t seen that coming.

‘’You said that the gorillas defaulted,’’ Kofi shouted standing up from his seat pointing an accusing finger to the chiefs. His face twisted in a scowl. Koni had never seen him that angry.

‘’Well they didn’t, the Chiefs of that time agreed that the gorillas were to be given the role of hunting down cast outs.’’

‘’Sokwe Security Company is the cover name for Sokwe Society. SS is the cleaning crew of the spirit warriors. Think of them as an independent body that watches over the spirit warriors,’’

‘’This is bullsh*t,’’ Roiman cursed out bitterly and Koni agreed with him.

‘’Why did you keep it a secret?’’ Koni asked. He wanted to understand why the Chief’s would do that.

‘’Those were there terms their chief and elders gave. They were not to be in contact with the rest of the warriors. At that time there was a lot of skirmishes between you guys and the gorilla warriors. The chiefs agreed that it was better to separate the two. You were too different. The agreement worked perfectly. They killed two birds with one stone. The constant fights stopped and the cast outs were eliminated,’’ the oral narrator practically sang. His voice remained even throughout the whole time.

‘’By eliminated you mean killed?’’ a warrior voiced a question every warrior in the room wanted to ask.

‘’Yes, basically,’’ the chief nodded his head gravely. A death of a spirit warrior was not going easy. The room went silent for a moment.

‘’Getting back on topic warriors,’’ the leopard chief normal cheerful voice was serious, ‘’Bor from the Ukiri clan was being hunted by Gahiji. A spirit warrior from the Sokwe Society. Bor is a descendant of one of the cast outs during the Tsavo incident almost 100 years ago. By some means he had always managed to evade capture,’’

‘’So on top of hunting us down, the gorillas are lousy at their job? How now? They only had one job.’’ Roiman was still bitter.

‘’Team leader Roiman Lenku, you will respect this council and refrain from using that tone before your chiefs’ ‘’ Chief of the Cheetah clan glowered at Roiman.  ‘’Do you understand?’’

‘’Yes chief,’’ Roiman said through clenched teeth.

‘’You talked about a warrior named Gahiji hunting down Bor, Chief?’’ Koni asked trying to distract the attention of the chiefs from Roiman. It was understandable that Roiman was frustrated at the chief’s.

‘’Yes, as I was saying. Gahiji has come from far. His sources led him to Nyati town where Team Leader Koni is residing together with his team. By the time Gahiji was in town. The hyena attack had already happened and the pesky reporters were on the story.’’ Koni grinded his teeth remembering that night.

‘’If we had information earlier we would have managed to control the situation before it escalated for goodness sake. Two people were critically injured that night before we reached them.’’ Koni had barely managed to save his bride.

‘’We realize that late, Team leader Koni. Gahiji is still situated in the same town to monitor any movement of the amanani,’’

‘’There is a gorilla in my town and nobody bothered to tell me?’’ Koni was now furious. Roiman snickered beside him. Koni didn’t flinch when the Chiefs glared at him. His father’s gaze nearly scorched him.

‘’This is preposterous Chiefs, we are the ones in the field. We face the amanani. How do you expect us to fight them when they are in league with one of our own? ’’

‘’Team Leader Koni Jasiri, sit down,’’ his father commanded.

‘’No chief, I have something else to say and I will not move until I say it,’’

Koni thinks about this first Manute’s voice boomed in his head.

I have already thought about it, Koni said before shutting him out.

‘’I have met a rainmaker who can claims he can help,’’ Koni stated looking directly from one chief to the other. His gaze settled on his father’s hard gaze. A pin drop silence fell on the room. Koni had finally spoke of the forbidden, he could see the change of expressions on each of the Chief’s face. From anger, betrayal, hope to anger again. They were furious.

‘’How dare you Koni Jasiri mention about rainmakers in this room?’’ Chief Jasiri’s voice boomed inside the room.

‘’You know very well why we avoid those betrayers. They are the cause of everything.’’ the leopard chief was angry too.

‘’Think about it Chiefs’ the rainmakers are the beginning of all of this mess and maybe they can be the end too. We have to think outside the box to solve this issue,’’

‘’The rainmakers are out of question. Look for another solution.’’

‘’I brought a rainmaker with me here, maybe if…’’ Koni was not giving up. It was a high time the chiefs broke off their cocoon. Things were changing and they had to adapt.

‘You dare to bring such a person to this place? Are you out of your mind?’’ his father was practically shooting up from his seat. He clenched the table so hard that Koni feared it would break into two.

. The other chiefs silently consulted with a group of elders sitting behind them. It was a battle of wills between father and son. Koni knew that if he win his father’s favor the other chiefs might listen to him. His father was the hard nut to crack.

‘’Chief Dakarai, if you would hear him out,’’ Koni persisted. The Chiefs’ had to listen to Guma. It was very important.

‘’Silence warrior,’’ his father cut him down harshly.

‘’Dakarai maybe we should adjourn the meeting,’’ leopard Chief tried reasoning with Koni’s father but the old man didn’t move his eyes from Koni. Koni also held his father’s gaze too. None was willing to back away.

After it seemed like an eternity Chief Dakarai looked away. Koni released a breath he didn’t know he was holding.

‘’The meeting is adjourned till farther notice.’’ The old secretary declared.

Another repost. Am getting frustrated. What is going on?

On the other hand, i hope you are enjouying the story and the plot is not confusing hahaha

Otherwise do you think the chiefs' are right to keep the warriors in the dark? Do you think Koni will convince his father to let Guma help out?

Watch out for more. Things are only starting to get interesting.

Much Love.
