Jami’u was looking sideways as he walked into the hospital, his hopes were raised high, today; he might be fortunate enough to see Summayah and his two angels. He was about to enter the hospital room when a nurse walked in front of him and made him halted his steps, he groaned internally and spoke.

“I came here for Summayah,” he tried to explain, but the way she squeezed herself into a frown was disturbing, he hoped she wouldn’t be a problem to him.

“I’m sorry sir, but you can’t see her. Not now, not in this hospital, please leave.” She could clearly remember the time Uthman warned them about letting every strange face into Summayah’s room, and she couldn’t risk her work because of that.

“It won’t take me a minute, just some second please.” He tilted his phone to show her how the seconds will mean nothing to her, but to his dismay; she bursted out into a half yell.

“I told you you can’t see her, Sir . Its either you leave here or I call the securities!” She was looking around to take a glimpse of a single security but she saw none, that made Jami’u had the chance to speak again.

“Look here, nurse, I can even pay you to see them please. Just say the amount and it’ll be granted.” He was smiling widely and nodding his head to assure her that he will surely pay for whatever it is she laid.

Her face lit up, and she smiled widely at him nudged her head towards the door

. “You can go in sir, but please don’t stay longer than 10mins.” She pleaded as he handed her some cash and rushed towards the door.

As usual, he peeped through the white linens of the door, and his eyes caught the sight of Summayah and Uthman having a very soul soothing laughter. His heart squeezed, and he cursed Jennifer under his breath. This would’ve been him sitting lovingly beside Summayah as they converse and fall more deeply in love with their daughters, if only he wasn’t gullible enough to have believed what jennifer had told him.

He had never felt the urge to hold something, feel it and cuddle with it like he had towards his babies. He wished he can turn the hands of time, but who’s he kidding? Time is one of the things no man can change. He felt tears stinging the brink of his eyes, and before he could make a move, the nurse had came and begged him to leave. He was left with no other choice but to leave.

Slowly walking out of the hospital, Jami’u knew he had lot to take care of and lot to free from himself, he needed his friends. And within him, he knew he had to be in Abuja in whatever time possible. He rushed to the main gate and hailed a cab, heading directly to his mother’s house.

Whenever he stepped a leg into the house, a part of his heart wished he could see his mother walking around the house making a dish, but that would forever be history. Being paralyzed and having a home nurse for his mother was nothing sort of a big blow for him, he could hardly take it.

He couldn’t remember the last time he went to school, all his life had stopped when his mother got paralyzed, and now the management of her shop is in his hands. He pushed the door to her room and met the nurse adjusting her pillow. They said their pleasantries before she excused herself and left them alone in the room. Jami’u sat down beside her and took her hands in his, he smiled weakly.

“Mom, I’m traveling today, in hours to come. I’ll be going to Abuja.” He informed, not that he can hear her voice as he wished to, but he felt it’s her right to know his whereabouts since he had no one to care about him.

All Mrs. Aminat could do was to blink her eyes, and it broke Jami’u more than he could ever imagine. He parked his luggage and left for the airport, they landed in Abuja. The moment Jami’u switched on his phone, he dialed his friend’s number; Wallesh.

Wallesh told him to meet him at their usual meeting point, and Jami’u took a cab without a hesitation. When he arrived, he met them drinking a wine with the other circle of their friends, and anger had never rose to his throat like it did. He rushed to were Wallesh was seated and grabbed him by his collar.

“How dare you?!” He roared, and the look on Wallesh and the rest of their friends was worth it. Wallesh was the most notorious within them, he was known to be the most powerful and richest. All his friends were afraid of getting into an argument with Wallesh because they don’t want their names to be excluded out of his circle. And now, how dare Jami’u?

Wallesh tried to push him off but he was taken off guard when Jami’u threw him on the floor, with every look of him he felt like strangling him to death. Whenever he remembered Aisha, he wanted to suffocate him to death. He knew they have an intense connection with Aisha and that made him more angry.

His friends tried pushing Jami’u off a shocked Wallesh and all Jami’u did was spit on their faces. He couldn’t believed he had been friends with dogs, because he ate what dogs eat, he ate the forbidden. He lowered to Wallesh’s level and looked at him directly through his eyes “Is she the Aisha we all knew?” And that question hit hard, because he could clearly see the answer through Wallesh’s shocked eyes, and when he smirked; Jami’u felt all his world collapsing and he couldn’t help the urge to blow Wallesh’s nose that almost made him nauseous, and so he did, a hard blow able to suffocate him.

Wallesh pulled himself up and kept staring at Jami’u as he asked him some ridiculous questions he made him chuckled. “You no dey think at all, who ask you say make you arrange a girl for me. Na only to dey follow you I tell you. The girl wey you ruin hin life dey hospital now, shey na by force to have sex? Tell me!”

Wallesh scoffed and walked towards Jami’u, he looked at him directly in the eyes and spoke, “Weytin dey do you gansef. We wan help your life better, no be all of us change your life? You wey be say you enjoy yourself that day, we take you to the babe room but no be us force you to enter am na. No vex me at all, na your problem ooo. You con come here dey push me, if no be say weytin happen, how you enter our lane come become friends gansef. We dey teach you everything but you still be mama's boy.” He stopped and a roar of laughter from his friends arose, and Jami’u had nothing to do but to keep looking at them dumbfounded.

Wallesh continued, pointing his index finger on Jami’u’s chest, infuriated. “All that day wey that thing happen, no be say you dey carry different girls to the hotel. You go just dey shout say you get wife for house if we tell you say make una come go hotel. Doing holy holy, na only you wan enter heaven? Guy, me I go tell you again. Enjoy your life, this life wey you see ehn, he too short. Enjoy better thing,na only rice you wan dey chop? He go tire you, if you mix am he go sweet. Beans, jollof and many others dey. No stay with your wife alone.”

At this point Jami’u couldn’t take it, he pushed away Wallesh’s hand on his chest and walked out of the hotel, his heart breaking with every step he take. How could he be so inconsiderate? He hadn’t only messed up his life but together with Summayah’s and his two little angels, oh his babies. The address Wallesh shoved into his chest was still in his hold, he looked at it before he hailed a cab and went to the estate.

On arriving, a lady passing by was the one that directed Jami’u to Aisha’s apartment and that was the kindest thing he has ever received since what he did to Summayah. May be because she didn’t know the kind of monster I am, he hushed to himself and walked straight into the apartment. He couldn’t forgive Aisha, she had ruined many life she cared to know, broke even the slightest kind of bonds.

He stood at the door and his shaking hands started knocking, he knocked for what seemed like eternity but there was no response. He almost gave up and turned to walk back when he hard some shuffling and the door was open. He stood there and watched as Aisha kept looking between her left and right until her eyes landed on him, and she was shocked and frightened, because she knew what brought him to her apartment.

“You’re welcome, get in,” she managed to say and made way for him to enter. Jami’u controlled the urge to slap and beat the hell out of Aisha and maneuvered beside her into her house. He sat on one of her sofas as she entered she entered her kitchen to bring him water.

She dropped the bottle and cup and smiled weakly at him “Have some water,” she said and sat on the sofa opposite him.

Jami’u shook his head and took in a deep breath. “I’m not here for the water, I’m here for some actions. I’m here to ask you wether you knew what you did caused upon some lives, to ask you if you have the idea of how many lives you’ve ruined because of your selfish interest. Just because of some penniless money you damaged lives of the innocent people that could never hurt you. Why did you do that? Why didn’t you put yourself in Summayah’s shoes to taste how it will feel like? Do you have the idea how she’s hurting right now? Not to mention of the live she went through before she reached the stage she is now?”

With each word of Jami’u to Aisha, she felt guiltiness slowly creeping to her soul, tearing every vein and flesh she has. She looked at him apologetically and shook her head, “I’m so sorry, Jami’u, I didn’t know it could reach to this.” She had no words, how could she justify herself as woman that planned for another woman to be raped? How heartless was she?

She was taken aback by Jami’u’s outburst, for the first time since forever Jami’u broke down and let the tears drowning his soul out of his eyes. Aisha wondered why he seemed affected about what happened almost a year ago, she knew he was married; could it be that his marriage was dissolved because of that? She wondered.

She tried pacifying him but all her words did to Jami’u’s heart was reminded him of how a guile person he was. If he had choose a good circle of friends, he wouldn’t have been in Aisha’s house crying his eyes out, Summayah wouldn’t have been in that hospital, his babies wouldn’t have been born like that. If only he hadn’t bring back Jennifer into their lives, all this wouldn’t have happened, if only he hadn’t payed heed to his mother’s advice, this wouldn’t have happened.

“I’m sorry, Jami’u, I know I’ve hurt all of you dearly. But that’s in the past, you shouldn’t...” before she could finish her sentence, Jami’u hoarse voice had cut her off in a thunder.

“What is in the past, Aisha?! The girl I raped is my wife! And I humiliated her and chased her out of my house when I realized she was pregnant and I foolishly didn’t thought I was the father. I accused her of being a slut, when I’m the one worthy of that name!” His words jerked Aisha and she had to stand up and kept looking at him flabbergasted. She couldn’t believe the mess she had made, making a husband rape his wife and later on the fault would end up on the wife. She could clearly remember Summayah telling her that she came to Abuja to meet her husband, and even the...gift!

She rushed to her room and began scavenging for the gift under her wardrobe, for reasons unknown to her, since Summayah gave her the gift she couldn’t open it and see whatever it is it entails. She walked out of her room and handed the package to Jami’u before she sat down back.

“I’m sorry, Jami’u. But I myself could testify to Summayah’s innocence and loyalty. She was a virgin before you slept with her, and she was excited to meet you but she couldn’t get that chance. This gift was for you, but she gave it to me because her dream of meeting her husband wasn’t fulfilled and she had to leave after what happened to her. I’m sorry, I didn’t know what I did would’ve trespass to this.” She palmed her face in utmost regret and the only face she could see was that of Summayah’s crying face.

Jami’u palely looked at the package and felt as if his veins have been drained out, as if he didn’t have any blood circulating through them. He didn’t know the right emotion he was feeling, all that he did was to increase the intensity of his tears, oh Summayah.

Seeing how intense and heartbroken he was crying weakened Aisha and she started begging him for forgiveness, “I’m not the one you’ve wronged, rather the one you instigated on making the wrong thing. If you want to be guilt free, let’s go and meet Summayah together, there is where we all need forgiveness from.”

And she didn’t hesitated, she stood up and rushed to her room so she could get her things ready, she had never felt as guilty as this. Summayah deserved an apology from her, but she didn’t think she deserved her forgiveness.
