Three weeks had passed, Mrs. Aminat-Jamiu's mother-heard no news from Summayah's parents
regarding their children's wedding; coming up in two weeks. She decided to pay them a visit.

In the sitting room, sat Summayah's parents and Jamiu's mother on the black leather sofa facing each other.

A tray with smallchops was placed on the center table between the sofa.
Mrs. Aminat spoke, "Salam Alaykum."

"Walaykum salam." Summayah's parents both responded.

"Thank you . How is everything?"

"Alhamdulilah. Everything has been okay. We were even planning to come and visit you at your house before you came in," Mr. Sanusi answered.

Mrs. Aminat eyebrows raised up with her eyes wide open, "I never knew!" Raising her hands in the air, "Had it been I knew, I wouldn't have bothered myself coming oh."

Summayah's father spoke: "Let's start with the necessary preparation for the wedding."

Jamiu's mother nodded in agreement.

"We have chosen Saturday as the date for the marriage."

"Well, that's good. I meant to travel on Monday, all the necessary arrangements for my son is set.

Summayah's father added, "I want to do the wedding in low key

. My daughter doesn't want to have
an elaborate wedding; I will respect her decision."

"I have arranged for the hall and it's not far from here. You know that hall very close to your house. I didn't invite many people because my husband's family are angry still with me."

"Is your husband coming that day?" Mr. Sanusi inquired.

Mrs Aminat face fall, "He told me he is coming. I hope he fulfills his promise."

"No problem."

Jamiu's mother noticed Summayah's mother had been silent. "What is the matter?" Gesturing towards her, "You haven't said anything since I got here."

A laughter erupted from Mr. Sanusi's throat, "There is no problem. She is missing her daughter when she hasn't even left."

Gripping her clothes tightly, barely able to speak: "I can't believe my daughter is all grown up and she will be leaving so soon."

Mrs. Aminat chimed in, "She will still come and visit after her wedding."

Mr. Sanusi prayed: "Don't worry. The wedding will go smoothly In Sha Allah."

"Amin."

Suddenly Mrs. Aminat's phone rang, she quickly excused herself and answered the call.

Ending the call and standing up abruptly:"I'm sorry I have to leave now. Let's talk on the phone then
we make arrangements for other things and we meet on that day."
Summayah's parents bid her farewell, "Allah Hafiz."

"Allah Hafiz." Mrs. Aminat replied

Trekking back home with Az, Summayah eyes drifted from the children playing along the path to the street peddlers . She couldn't accept the reality; that she will soon be married at such a young age.

Az noticed Summayah distanced look and repeated biting of her nails. Summayah was not one to bite her nails ever, this worried Az deeply.

Taping on her shoulder, "Summayah what's on bothering you?"

"Az, I don't know why I'm so scared."

"Why are you so scared."

"I have a feeling the marriage is in some weeks to come."

Stopping to face Summayah, "What! So soon?" Az shook her head.

"I'm not sure, I just have a feeling I'm getting married soon."

"Stop thinking about that okay, you know exam is around the corner and if you don't pass this exam, you will not be promoted to the next class."

"Yes, I know." Pulling Az into a hug, "Thanks for being my friend."

Releasing her from the hug, "You will always be my friend too so there is no need thank me. What are friends for if we can't help each other? I have something to tell you too oh."

"What is that?"

Her eyes not meeting Summayah's own. "Actually my mum said that I have to write GCE this year because I might be traveling abroad with her for my studies. She wants to leave the country for a greener pasture."

"So you want to leave me all alone."

"No! I'm not leaving you yet, besides I'm not even sure."

"Ok."

They talked about their studies as they walked home, before departing to their houses.

Summayah got home and was called by her mother after she had rested for a bit.

"Summayah, I hope you are not tired."

"I'm not mum."

Gesturing towards her, "Come and sit down on the bed because I have to discuss something important with you."

"OK mummy."

Strolling towards the bed and taking a seat beside her mother.

"Mrs. Aminat came over today and we have talked about your wedding, so your father and I have decided to set the marriage in two weeks time."

Summayah's eyebrows raised up, "What! Two weeks! I have to write my exams mummy, why is it so quick?"

Holding onto her daughter's hand, Your exams are going to hold after your wedding, so there is still time to
prepare for your exams and wedding. There is no hindrance between the two."

Tears whaling up in her eyes.

"Mummy, can you please give me more time."

"What is the problem? don't you like him?" Shaking her head viciously.

"That's not the problem."

"What is the problem then?"

"I don't want to get married now...I'm still young to get married."

Looking closely at her daughter, "You are going to blend with him trust me. It's just a matter of time."

Forcing a smile, "Ok mum."

Lifting her hand to touch Summayah's face and gently stroking it, "Don't worry. Everything is going to be alright. Go and rest."

"Ok mum."

Summayah left to her room. She covered herself with blankets, weeping till no more tears remained.
Her mother observed that Summayah hadn't come out of her room since they talked and missed dinner.

This grieved her heart.

"Musa, can you go and check on Summayah for me in her room."

"No problem."

He stood up and went to her room.
He knocked three times, but he didn't hear any response from her so he decided to enter.

On entering the room, Summayah lay fast asleep.

"Summayah is even sleeping."
Reaching to tap her gently, "Please wake up, you have to eat your dinner. Mummy asked me to come get you."

Opening her eyes, "Yes."

Moving closer to her. "What is the problem? Are you sick? he asked looking worried.

"Nothing."

"Nothing?" Inspecting her face, "Look at how swollen your eyes are. You were crying and you say it's nothing!"

"Mummy said I'm getting married in two weeks time."

"Are you sure and is that the reason you have been crying."

"Yes! Why won't I cry."

"Hmm, don't you like the guy? Just tell me and I will discuss the issue with mum and dad."

"That is not the issue, I don't want to get married or would you follow me?"

His laughter echoing, "Why would I follow you."

"Then I don't want to leave my family. I don't have relatives there."

"Don't you know you will make new friends and you make your own family. I'm sure he won't maltreat you. He is a nice guy and you know that."

Pitching her cheeks softly.

"I know he won't maltreat me."

"I don't want you to go to the dining like this. I will ask mum to dish our meal together and we will eat together in your room. I don't want anybody to start asking questions why you have been crying.

Is that okay?"

A bright smile appeared on her face.
"Yes, thank you, brother. I love you so much."

"I love you too."

He went to the dining to get their food.

They ate their food, talking about random things before he gave her drugs then told her to sleep.

"Good night Summayah."

"Goodnight. Please help me switch off the light when you are leaving."

"Okay."

He took the plates and went downstairs to the kitchen.

Summayah's mother saw Musa coming into the kitchen with the plates. "Why didn't she come downstairs to eat."

"She is a little bit tired. You know with her exams coming up. I think she is stressed out. I was the one that told her to stay in her room."

"Okay, no problem.I will check on her when I'm through with this."

"She is sleeping right now. Let her rest, you know if anyone disturbs her when sleeping she develops a headache."

"Okay."

"Mummy, just go and rest. I'll wash the dishes and tidy up the kitchen."

"Thank you, son, your children will take care of you too."

"Amin. Goodnight."

"Goodnight."
