Doyin was about to open the door to the matron's office when she heard Miss Ann talking.

"The couple that came today said they want to adopt one of the children", Miss Ann informed the matron of Inioluwa's foster care.

"Did they give any specifications or did you show them the children in our care?" Doyin heard the matron inquiring.

"They met Doyin coming from the cyber cafe where she went to check her portal...."
But the matron cuts in, "Good news, I hope".

So the couple came to adopt, Doyin thoughts. She knew eavesdropping is wrong, but she feels whatever they are saying might be linked to her.

"She got the admission oooo... . I couldn't believe it at first", Miss Ann said with happiness.

Doyin smiled. She couldn't believe it too. The university in Lagos that she chose was very competitive.

"I knew she would..... Now we need someone to sponsor her", the matron puts in.

Miss Ann quickly chirped in, "That was where I was going. The couple today like her and wish to adopt her. I called the police to inform them of the latest development. I believe they have started making the necessary investigations.

Doyin does not know if she should be happy or not

. Can she cope without her mentor, Miss Ann and have a life without her friends in the foster home?
Putting all thoughts aside, she knocked the door.

***********
Few months later, Doyin was adopted by the Ogungbemis.
The couple took the young girl to Lagos, where they live and where she's supposed to further her studies.

*******
"I adopted you because I wanted a child badly and I can't have one because of my mistakes", Mrs Beatrice Ogungbemi told Doyin who was listening attentively to the words of her foster mother as she loses her hair.
"I always wanted a daughter", she smile and paused. "But it's a pity my husband doesn't like children. It took me a long time to convince him".
Doyin had noticed her foster father attitude towards her, but had kept silent. The man even gives her the creeps.
"Doyin. I have to warn you as regards some things. Are you listening?"
"I'm all ears mother", Doyin replied.
Beatrice stopped loosing the hair and made Doyin sit down close to her.
"My girl, I want you to be careful in this house. Whenever visitors come by, stay in your room till they leave. I also don't want you to start wearing clothes that flatter your figure, very soon a man will visit us and K- man is exactly known for self- discipline. He's a bit....."
All these words of warning overwhelms Doyin. "I'm sure no one can hurt me with you father here", Doyin said with assurance.
Her foster mother shakes her head. "Kelvin would never deny his clients anything, but his wife".
"Is father a lawyer? Why do his clients come over here instead of his officr?" Doyin asked innocently.
Beatrice answered reluctantly, "He is a sort of exporter. No more questions, let me loose your hair so we can visit a hair stylist".

********
Doyin wakes up in the middle of the night, alert. What's that noise? She asked herself mentally.
She coughed slightly. Her throat feels so dry. She stands up to visit the kitchen for water.
The sight that greets her in the kitchen had her gasping and covering her mouth.
Their guest, K-man is sniffing a powder that she suspects is cocaine.
Her foster father caught her staring and frowned. K-man didn't notice the interloper.
Beatrice came into the kitchen and whispered something into Doyin's ear. The two ladies leave quietly.

******
Doyin was not happy. How could she be? She just got to know that her foster father is a drug baron. Not only that. Now that she has found out his secrets, she won't be leaving for school. Her father said he doesn't want her interacting with people lest she tell them of his secrets.
She sighed. Who would believe that she Doyin Inioluwa would end up the adopted daughter of a drug baron. She heard a bark and looked around. She bends down as she saw a cute puppy wagging it tail.
"Aren't you cute?" She said admiring the white- furred puppy. She pets it, using her finger to comb its fur. She loves dogs.
The puppy leaves to meet some guy. Probably the owner.

Talking about the puppy's master. He looked.......
Okay, don't go there Doyin, she warned herself mentally. He looks light complexioned. Her inability to see colours is one trouble on its own.

"Hello!" The guy greeted her.
"Hi!" She replied shyly. She turns her back ready to run. Her foster father warning ringing like a bell in her ears.
"Wait!" He stopped her.
She stopped in mid stride, but didn't turn back.
"Please tell me your name", he pleaded.

She turned her back slowly. "Doyin. My name is Doyin".
"Doyin", he repeated. "You have a beautiful name. Mine is Jeremiah Durosinmi. It's nice to meet you", he said complimenting her and introducing himself in one beat.
He held out his hand, she shook his hand and let go immediately as if struck by lightning.
He smiled at her reaction and asked, "Do you live around?" She didn't answer him. "I don't think I have seen you before", he added.
She pointed to a huge mansion close to them.
"Really? I live in the house opposite to yours. So we are be neighbours. I didn't know the new neighbours had a daughter", he said.
Doyin trying not to make it a one sided conversation on his part chirped in, "I don't come out a lot".
"It's a Friday. Why are you not in school?" He asked.
"I'm done with secondary school".
"Jambite?"
"Something like that", she replied, then changed the subject.
"What do you call your puppy?"
"Simba".
"A cub's name.

Read " A Bride For The Dumji Prince " by the same author ( Queen )

. Simba", she said. Simba barked and wagged its name as it heard its name.
"She likes you", Jeremy told her.
Doyin grinned and bent down to play with the puppy. Simba who was obviously enjoying the attention, jumps and rolls on the floor.
"She's absolutely adorable", she told him.
"And well trained", she added.
He smiled. "Thank you".
She stood up. "I have to go. My parents would soon be back and I don't want them knowing I left the house".
Jeremiah frowned at that.
"Bye", she bade him farewell as she walked away.
"Wait!" He shouted. She looked back raising a eyebrow.
"Friends?" He asked
Ignoring the warning bells in her head, she agreed. "Friends".
