Regret - Episode 27

 

"What do you mean by this is your home now?" Rose asked still confused. 
"I said that I have taken over from you. Mike is now my husband and I have two sons for him. At least I gave him what you couldn't. " Lola said. 
"So you're the one behind everything, behind Amy, behind my daughter's death" Rose asked. 
Lola didn't reply. 
"Lola, what did I ever do to you? I have been nothing but a good friend to you. What did I do to deserve this? 
Lola didn't say anything. 
Rose went closer to her quietly, when she reached her front, she gave her a very dirty slap . She started to beat her. She was crying and was beating her. She couldn't get her head straight, everything was still strange to her. That was when Mike entered the room, the gateman informed him that Rose was in the house, he entered and met rose beating Lola. He dragged Rose out and threw her out. 
"Mike you're a wicked man, I can't believe you did this to me, with my own best friend. Mike, God will punish you, it will not be well with you" Rose continued to cuss at him as she was being dragged out. 
He threw her out and banged the gate lock in her face. 

"I thought I told you that I never want to see her in this house? What's wrong with you? You can't even listen to simple instructions, the next time this happens, you'll be sacked" Mike warned the gateman angrily. 
"Oga sorry oo, na she force herself enter"

"What happened? I knew when Mike entered into the house, there would be disaster. Were you able to collect the certificate?" Mrs Alade asked Rose as she entered into the car. 
"Mum, you won't believe what happened" Rose said crying.
"What happened?" her mother asked inquisitively. 
"My own best friend betrayed me"
"How? "

. Mrs Alade was shocked too. 
"These days, you won't know who to trust anymore" Mrs Alade said. 
Rose continued crying till they reached home. 
The next day, she switched on her phone and called Tonye. 
"Hello"
"Rose, what happened? I've been trying your line since last week but it wasn't going. I even went to your house but the gateman refused to let me in. Is anything wrong? 
"Tonye, it's a long story. Let's meet for coffee, I'll tell you everything" Rose replied. 
"I'll be free by two. Come to that coffee shop near my workplace".
"No problem, you'll see me there" Rose said as she put down the phone. 

Rose was on her way to meet Tonye, she wasn't in her right mind. What happened the previous day was still hovering over her. There was subtle traffic congestion. When it was time for them to move, she moved faster than expected and hit the car in front of her. The car stopped. She didn't know what to do. She didn't have strength to start arguing with some stranger. She didn't know if she had enough money to pay off the person. She came down from her car. There was no visible damage on her car. It was the other car that had scratches on it. The owner of the car also came down. When she saw him, she looked at him in shock. It was Victor. The guy that she met at the grocery store. She didn't know how to talk to him because she was rude to him the last time. 
"Hey, I'm sorry for your car" Rose said, her eyes drooping. 
"There's no problem at all, I guess it's fate that made us meet once more and I hope you would be nicer this time"
Rose just looked at him without saying anything. 
"It seems you were heading somewhere before this happened" he said gesticulating.
Rose nodded. 
"I would like to meet you some other time if it would be fine with you"
Rose still didn't talk. 
"Your number please?" he said. 
Rose handed her phone to him. He input his number and dialled himself. Then her number flashed on his phone. 
"Thank you very much, I guess we would be seeing each other more often " he said as he got into his car. 
Rose stood there till he got into his car and drove off. Then she got into her own car and went on to meet Tonye. When she reached the coffee shop they were meant to meet, Tonye was there already waiting for her. 
"I'm sorry for wasting your time" Rose said as she sat down. 
"There's no problem, I just got here too" Tonye said. 
"So what is on board?" Tonye continued. 
Rose's face became gloomy. She told Tonye everything that happened from the beginning to the end. 
"Lola, I can't believe this, it's sounding so unbelievable. Now that I know, she seems more distant, like we never really knew her. She never allowed us to come to her house. How did she hide it from us? Two sons?That's too much. So Lola is a murderer. I knew it. All these quiet people, you can't trust them because you won't even know what they're capable of. " Tonye said after Rose finished telling her story. 
"Rose you must take this matter to the police" Tonye said. 
"There's no proof that she killed anyone, there's nothing we can do"
"I have a plan, we can make her say the things she did. We'll record it, then it can serve as our proof" Tonye replied. 
"But I don't think there's any way I can get into that house, Mike has ordered that he doesn't want to see me there again, so I don't think the gateman would even let me in" Rose said. 
"I'll go, then you'll be at my back, immediately he opens the gate, you force yourself in" Tonye said. 
"I think that would work" Rose said nodding her head. 

It was after a week, Victor called Rose, they decided to meet up in an eatery. 
"I'm sorry, I'm late" Rose said as she sat down. 
"No, don't worry, it's no problem"
They exchanged pleasantries before they started talking. 
"So tell me about yourself" Victor asked. 
"There's really nothing much to know about me. Okay, I and my husband are separated" Rose said. 
"You were married?" Victor said as his eyes widened in shock. 
"Yes, why are you surprised?"
"It's just, you look so young, any issue?"
"Yes, a daughter, but she's dead"
"Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know, otherwise I wouldn't have asked" Victor said apologetically.
"No, there's no problem, I've gotten over it already, tell me about yourself too.
"Okay, my case is a little different. My wife is dead"
"Oh, sorry about that"
"There's no problem, just like you, I've gotten over it too" Victor said. 
"Okay?"
"Yes, I have a daughter, she's just four years old"
And their conversation continued. They got to know each other better. And they met subsequently after that day. Victor asked Rose out. It was very hard to let him in. But she finally accepted. They started dating. She had not gotten over her husband yet and Victor felt it but he had to take things that way till she finally got over him.
