We stayed two more days  in the palace before returning :but all through our stay, my dad didn't say anything about the marriage issue. Anyway, we left my hometown in the afternoon and got back late in the evening. I dropped Arike at her place where she now lived off campus before returning to my apartment to rest for the day.
A week passed before my mum called me saying my dad wanted to see at home. I wasn't surprised because it was unlike my dad to keep mute on such a crucial matter . I returned home as quickly as I could, though I didn't inform Arike, I didn't want to cause any unnecessary panic.
I went up to my dad's room as instructed by my mum immediately I returned. He was waiting in the room already, I knocked then went in. "Good afternoon dad " I greeted. "Good afternoon son ",he said, "sit ". I sat on one of the sofas there in his bedroom, I couldn't help but feel scared but that wasn't what I needed at that moment. He sighed then began " my dear son, I'm really happy you are becoming a more matured man, you've managed the company so well that I have absolutely no reason to worry about things over there. I'm glad you've taken this decision to get married, but I must say, your choice of woman isn't pleasing to me at all

. Truly, she possesses virtues of a good woman but where she comes from is the only barrier here ". He moved closed to me, patted me on back then continued, "my dear, why can't you choose someone else, someone from our tribe, someone who understands our traditions and customs, please my son " he concluded. Just then my mum came in, she had been standing by the door the whole while. "Why not listen to your dad, son.

. I had noticed something strange the moment she knelt down to greet me ,I just wanted to hear from you first . I can understand you love this lady ,to even bring her home, it shows your level of intimacy with her. But to be honest with you son, you cannot marry that lady ". That statement came as a bombshell, it tore my heart. I mustered up the courage to speak "Dad, mum, please try to understand me, I love this lady, I can't imagine getting married to anyone else expect her, please I beg of you" I pleaded. I never had to beg my parents for anything ever before but at that moment, I had to. My dad went back to sit on his bed, he turned to me then said " I have taken my decision son, and I'll love it if you would stick to it. You may leave ". At that point I felt lost, weak, I had managed to walk out of the room. I headed straight to my car, after resting my head on the wheel for minutes I can't even remember, I managed to gather the little courage left in me before driving out of the palace.

For days I was unable to call Arike, even after series of calls and text messages from her, I just couldn't find the courage to tell her about my parents decision. I managed to call her to my apartment that evening, I just had to tell her something, we're lovers, we are in this together.
