My Mistake - Episode 14

 

Aysha made sure Fadeel has left before she also left. Checking the wrist watch tied on her left hand, she saw the time and hissed loudly. She's almost late for her appointment with doctor Mariam. She hopped into her car and drove off, waving to the gateman as she left.

It took her only ten minutes to arrive at the hospital. She packed the car in the parking lot and dialed Amirah's number.

"Girl" she chirped in "you coming or not? Am already late and there's no sign of you anywhere."

"I can't make it Aysha . Just see the doctor and feed me back the details okay?"

"Okay. I hope things go well, i don't know why___but am scared Amirah."

"Don't be, everything will be okay__mmhmn?"

"Bye."

"Good morning doctor."

"Morning Mrs Aysha. You're late" the doctor replied smiling.

"Yeah. Am sorry about that, can we start?"

"Yes please. I didn't quite understand what you were saying on phone yesterday, can you please explain more?"

"Sure Doctor" Aysha replied nodding before adjusting her sitting position "I took pregnancy pills for almost a year and half and had already stopped taking them for the past seven months but there's still nothing. I time my cycle and ovulation period to just see if i can make it___I'm yet to see a result though

Doctor Mariam was silent for a while, looking closely at Aysha. Why would a young girl like that take pills?

"How long have you been married Mrs?"

"Two years and two months."

"Where you forced into taking those pills or did you take them without being forced?"

"I wasn't forced doctor."

"Guess you know the effects before taking them right?"

"Effects? I only know they stop a person from getting pregnant. Which means that, once you're not taking the pills, you can get pregnant."

Doctor Mariam shook her head sadly. Teens of nowadays tends to suffer this way just to make a man happy. She can bet that Aysha took those pills just to make her husband happy.

"The oral contraceptive pill, commonly known as "the pill," is a hormone-based method of preventing pregnancy. It can also help resolve irregular menstruation, painful or heavy periods, endometriosis, acne, and premenstrual syndrome (PMS)" Doctor Mariam started, "Birth control pills work by preventing ovulation. No egg is produced, so there is nothing for the sperm to fertilize. Pregnancy cannot occur.

Some Common side effects of oral contraceptives include___intermenstrual spotting, nausea, breast tenderness, headaches and migraine, weight gain, mood changes, missed periods, decreased libido, vaginal discharge, changes to eyesight for those using contact lenses.

Taking pregnancy pills also has risks, not only the side effects. Female hormones that occur naturally, such as estrogen, are thought to affect the chances of a woman developing some types of cancer. It is therefore possible that using a hormone-based method of birth control could have a similar effect.

Breast cancer___ There appears to be a slightly higher chance of breast cancer developing in women who have recently been using the contraceptive pill, and especially if they started using it during their teenage years. However, after 10 years of not using the pill, the risk appears to be the same as for someone who has never used it. Other factors may play a role, such as a woman's age at starting puberty and menopause, her age at her first pregnancy, and whether or not she has had children.

In a case like yours Mrs Aysha, we can't really say if any of those risk is within you, but i do hope you know that sometimes, depending on a woman's harmonal level, she might not be able to concieve. Which is why we do advice women who aren't ready to get pregnant to do an implant, which of course has it's own effects."

"Y...yo...u...mea...n i...i.."

"Calm down Mrs, you can get pregnant anytime. Am just trying to make you understand the outcome of what you did. Do you want to undergo a test?"

Aysha shook her head. She is not ready for more revelation, all she wants to do now is talk to Fadeel and ask if he knew about all these when he asked her to take those pills. Oh how she is going to make him regret it if he did!

"Thank you so much Doctor. I'll come back when i have made my decision."

"You're welcome. And please do take care of yourself."

She paced the living room, eager to see Fadeel back home. She didn't cook dinner, neither did she call Amirah nor received her call when she called. She only need to talk to Fadeel first before talking to anyone.

She jumped as soon as she heard the sound of his car, yanking the door to the living room open, she quickly grabbed in hand and dragged him to the living room.

"What did you do to me Fadeel? Why the hell did you tell me to take those pills?"

Fadeel raised one of his perfect carved brows and looked at Aysha in confusion.

"What sort of nonsense is this? Are you stupid or what?" He snapped yanking his hand away from hers.

"How will you know, when you've made me destroyed my womb__there are even chances that i might have cancer.

. I've never forced you to love me___you shouldn't have destroyed me that way Fadeel." She was crying so hard by then.

"Look, don't you dare blame me Aysha. I didn't force you to use those pills. You were blinded by love and didn't bother thinking about it through before saying yes. And i never really wished for something like this to happen to you. I just didn't love you then and wasn't ready to father a child with you, nothing more or less. Amirah suggested the idea when i told her about my fears of you getting pregnant when i was not ready."

"Amirah?" Aysha asked clearly shocked "so you have been with that cheap since before getting married to me right? What have i ever done to deserve this from you Fadeel? What?"

"I just don't love you okay!" He yelled, pushing her away from him as she stumbled back and almost fell "i never loved you and i still don't. I only agreed to this to make my parents happy and nothing more. I hate clingy people, especially when i made it clear that i don't like them. I won't deny the fact that I've gotten used to your company, your smile__your laugh and everything___but i just couldn't love you___I love Amirah not you!"

Nothing__absolutely nothing can be used to describe the pain in Aysha's heart. Her heart broke into million pieces and her legs felt like they can't hold her any longer.

"Who's this Amirah? And what does she have that I don't? What does she do to you that i don't__what?"

"Does she have to do all that? I love her for who she is__simple. And the Amirah am talking about is none other than the Amirah you know____Amirah Julde."

"What?!"
