The weekend rolled smoothly. At the beginning of the following week i went back to work. Sitting around trying to pass time wasn't exactly an easy task for me. I was feeling okay despite the cloud of hospital stench that had remained stuck in my nose. It must have been the drugs that made me feel this way.

I got into my car and left the apartment at 7.00 am. I hadn't drove it for a month now . A month. Time was flying fast out of the windows, doors, chimneys and every space it squeeze itself out of. A month had passed and it felf like two weekss. Traffic was bad on this day. I ended up reaching work 2 hours later at 9.00 am. I hadn't told Mercy i was coming back to work. She would have forced to me to stay home for a little while longer. Philip had been unusually generous with the sick days.

I walked in, the reception desk was empty. Where was this girl?  I was partly relieved that she was not there. Atleast i was spared some tongue lashing from 'mum'. For the time bieng. I walked towards my office. The door was slightly ajar. This did not come to me as a suprise. Upon sick leaf we were to leave offices open to allow others easier access. I pushed the door wide open.

Philip was seated on my chair while Mercy was standing beside him all eyes glued on the screen

. Whatever it was it had captured their full attention. They didn't notice i had walked in. I cleared my throat and they all looked up reluctantly. Philips eyes looked tired and larger than usual. "He must be sleep deprived. " I thought to myself. Mercy on the other hand had her face decorated with the What are you doing here question. They just stared at me.

"Aren't you going to say hello and ask me how am doing?" I asked.

"Sorry Daniella _Good morning." Philip said half heartedly.

Mercy said nothing i could see from her attitude that this wasnt over. The tongue lashing was being baked in an oven for lunch.

"What are you working on and why are you not in your desk or office?" I asked looking at them in a succesive manner.

"He says sitting here gives him perspective. " Mercy replied.

"I have a meeting with the board. I haven't figured out what am going to say i was hoping that i would get something from the old reports you filed. Mercy was helping me with those." Philip continued.

He looked at his watch and started to rise.

"It's time. I geuss Maggie will win this one. Would you care to join?" He sounds like he is asking me too dance with him.

"Me_Her?" We both asked.

"Yes you. It will be helpful having a friendly face inside there while loosing it to Maggie."

The friendship between a boss, his assistant and the receptionist had been growing steadily since i felt sick. Philip had became more sociable and approachable. I got the sense that despite him having a big social circle  because of work he was a lonely man in terms of true friendship. We hadn't got to the point of knowing whether he was dating or not.

I followed Philip into the boardroom. There were a total of seven people already inside, 4 men and 3 ladies. Philip sauntered in and i filed in closely. Maggie was seated at the extreme end of the board room table. Opposite her were two vacant seats. I felt nervous my legs could barely hold me as i tried to make my way towards the vacant seats. I could feel the occupants of the room staring at me. I had never been there before.

I collapsed in the seat beside Philip trying to gather my thoughts and emotions together. Passing infront of those people felt like hours of torture. Maggie was wearing this stupid grin, like she had already won. I managed to put myself together and slowly scaned the room.

The room was plain and so were it occupants. All wearing custom made suites which didn't do much as to improve the sullen looks on their faces. I hated being there already. Most were in their late forties and early fifties. Must be a tough crowd to handle.

The government had been putting pressure on the company. Being a privately owned company by the Whip(i know it sounds ridiculous) brothers from England most of the benefits were to them and their country. The only way the country benefited was through tax collection and the company offering jobs for laboures which i might add is quite cheap. The government had given the company six months to come up with a project that would be beneficial to the citizens else they would be forced to shut it down. Relocating the company within a year wasn't  an option for WIKDOS. The stable weather patterns and the cheap labour was too many reasons for them to want to stay.

Philip and Maggie had been tasked to come up with ideas on how to go about this issue. The person who was to come up with the best idea was to see it through. Maggie was the first to present. Half way through i could see the panel nodding clearly impressed by what she was proposing. Philip who was sitting besides me was loosing heart with every passing micro second. I could hear sighs from under his breath. When Maggie finished he clapped half heartedly.

It was now his turn. He arose then went foward . Questioning looks were on him. He didn't  have any form of presentation material. Not even a marker pen to write on the white board with.

Silence

I touched my face. It was hot burning up in apprehension. I couldn't believe i was worried for him.

He made as if to let out a small cough.

"Am sorry..." He started

I stood up abruptly

"Am sorry," i said quickly going to where Philip was standing. I winked at him signalling him to sit down.

Did i just winked at him? I don't remember if i have ever winked at anyone my entire life.

"As you may already know most of the farmers in our country are the lowest in the income chain. In contrary to what people might actually believe rudimentary production  practices are not the reason for the low income in highly productive areas. They get good yields but there is a problem."

I paused looked around. I believe i had their attention. Even Philip's eyes were now lit up.

"Brokers in the market who take advantage of a poor farmer who cannot take his goods to the market directly. And even if he could, maybe he cannot meet the required amount."

"What if we could offer a farmer or groups of farmers a means of transportating their produce to the market. They don't have to worry about brokers anymore and we don't have to spend a dime.

. Its a win win situation. Farmers will be able to get double prices at the market and we will get our full money back and drivers will be paid at the end of sales."

I continued to rumble about how i had been hospitalised and was not able to come up with a power point presentation on the same. One man clapped and slowly the rest of the them joined in. I smiled knowing i had nailed it. Maggie was visibly angry and taken aback. I really didn't care for Philip's face was beaming. I would have done anything to see that glow in his face.

"You saved me today."

"It was nothing sir."

"Nothing....dont get me wrong but at moments like this i hate humulity. It wasn't nothing _ it was everything. If you ever need anything just name it. You gave me a win and that's a first."

I headed to my office where a bubbly Mercy was waiting for me. She had heard the news.
