Lydia's heart - Episode 14

 

Immediately the car came to a halt, Lydia (n) rushed down and ran up the stairs to her room.

Lydia chased behind her but she locked the door to her face; she banged on the door “young woman will you open this door and listen to me” She banged continuously until it reduced to a knock yet she never opened the door.  

Angry and infuriated, she left the door “if this is how it is to raise a kid then she is never going to marry” she blames Vicky in her heart for leaving the stubbornness in him in their daughter to continuously remind him that he is the father but where the hell is he to come and control his daughter.

She has always wished for an affectionate daughter that will be all smiles and easy with her . Someone to be close at heart but here she is battling with the constant reminder that Vicky is part  of her. Her mind flashed back to the day she saw him in school. He was holding a small girl, does that mean he is married and forgot all about her after all the promises or maybe……… no she don’t have to still think of him, she is sure he has already moved on.

Afterwards, as she lay on her cushion, listening to one of her call records with Vicky; she wondered what was wrong with her. Why didn’t she find it easy to forget all about him, “was she that in love or so easy to be sworn over by words” of course he made her believe he worshipped the ground she walked on “was that love too or was she naïve about love and thought that to be love too”

If it wasn’t would she feel so good and proud now that she has his baby? She put across video call to Ritsy and Nelly; they always give her tips on how to follow her daughter and sometimes laugh at her stupid way of trying to be firm.

Either ways she feels comfortable and at ease talking with them and as always today was one of its kinds as she share the news of her invitation to them which she forgot to share with them before rushing to bring back her annoying daughter

. She rolls her eyes as she remembers that.

“you know you should have listened to the young girl and know what really happened” Ritsy chips in

“and also you confirmed the facts yourself, the different hair and attitude should tell you that that wasn’t your daughter, maybe you mistook her for another person” Nelly adds in support of Ritsy

Lydia nods “yes you are right, Lydia might be independent and stubborn like Vicky but she still have the soft part in her; imagine her pecking me when I dropped her at school”

The girls roll their eyes “must you call his name anytime we are discussing”

“the guy is gone and gone for good; forget him and move on. Besides who says she took after him when you are the most annoying girlfriend I ever have”

“ewwww, the last time I checked that was why you love me” Lydia says sticking out her tongue.

“And I am unloving you now”

“lol, that’s a big impossible”

Ritsy laughs at someone touching her from behind before facing the girls “Duty calls baby girls; I gaht to go”

“don’t make another babyooo” Nelly retorts at her

“who cares, my last baby is yearning for a younger one, its no crime if I make them four” she mimics and ends the call.

Nelly winks at Lydia “have to go girl; use the blanket in case you are feeling cold” she says before they bade each other good night and ends the call.

Lydia laid on the cushion, hoping to go inside when she starts feeling sleepy but sleep is a thief that you barely know when you have been stolen until you are back.

The following week, she saw Lydia(n) differently for the first time in her life, she started appreciating her daughters independent life.

They carried on peacefully not wanting to discuss what caused them to quarrel; she believed that one day they will trash it out like mother and daughter

She tried bribing her by waking up on time to cook breakfast and Lydia(n) for once acknowledged her mom’s effort to be a good mother.

Days turned into weeks, weeks into months and months into years. Lydia(n) will soon be a teenager and Lydia was so very happy looking forward to celebrating her sweet sixteen birthday; she has been watching a lot of movie where that is being celebrated and she wouldn’t miss it for anything, it is still five years away, she sighs but one thing disturbs and pricks her mind each time she looks at her daughter. She has grown to a young beautiful lady that men never allows her to rest.

She always goes to bed worried and scared if  her daughter will turn out to be lucky or failed like her. Got pregnant without being married and the worst you gave birth to the replica of the man who got you pregnant and disappeared.

She pauses from chopping vegetable and looks at her daughter cutting cabbage and wonders if they are going to have the same fate or had she been a good mother all this while.
