My name is Chimaobim, a thirteen year old boy and the first son out of the two children my parents had. Life in Lagos had been hectic for my parents that we moved away from the room and parlour apartment we lived, in a slightly well developed area in Lagos, to a suburb ghetto where hardship spelt itself in full capital letters.

It was a conglomeration of different tattered bungalows with heaps of dirt at each ends, different gutters and a plank that was used as a walkway. The house where I lived with my parents and my junior brother was the only storey building in the ghetto . The storey building looked like one that had been built for years.

. It wasn't painted and some bits of its plastering had nearly broken off. Black and green substances were obvious on all parts of the wall as it stood out in the community.

I think our storey building was the envy of all in the neighborhood. The first day we moved, I overheard some women gossiping about how people who lived in it always felt they were accomplished in life, and trampled on them that lived in the bungalow with leaking roofs, doors and windows that were almost pulling off. I shook my head at their wish

. We once lived in a bungalow in the middle of the riches and I know how good life was then. I saw cars zoom across the tarred road everyday and people in their posh attires moving helter and skelter. Power supply came in minimal unlike here where we had to burn candles every night. The only smartly dressed people here were women with emulsion paint all over their faces, tight dresses that hugged their body and pair of stiletto that made them walk with elegance. The two boldly drawn expressway on their faces glowed in admiration. They looked this good only when they were walking out of the ghetto. When they moved back, they switched to wrappers tied across their chest and nets which covered their hair as they moved around.

These are the snippets from what goes around in here, and it is fascinating watching these activities everyday.
